2 A Word from Pastor Tom... Why only one service in June? Are we going to one service permanently? No, we re not making a permanent move to a single service on Sundays. Everything will go back to normal in July. As to why one service in June, we wanted one service to welcome our confirmands and to celebrate our 39 th birthday as a church on June 3. We also found one service convenient for VBS kids and their families last year, so we re making it convenient for them again this summer on June 17. That would be Father s Day. As for the other two services, I have specific things planned at the end on the 10 th and the 24 th one involving a talk and the other a walk. The TALK on the 10 th will follow the service and will be a conversation around what we say we re about at Asbury Making Disciples. I want to clarify what we re currently doing and what we hope to do in the future. In May, I spent 3 out of 4 Sundays focused on what is known as the Great Commission found in Matthew 28: Jesus said, Therefore go and make disciples of all nations How are we currently doing that and how can we improve what we re doing as followers of Jesus Christ? On the 10 th, anyone who d like to remain afterwards is welcome to be a part of the conversation in the worship center. The WALK on the 24 th will come at the end of the service and will be how we close out our worship experience. You will be invited to do a prayer walk that ends in the worship center. For those who find walking difficult, you ll still have a way of participating. My hope for each of the services revolves around two things Jesus said were important. In fact, He confirmed them both as mandates from the Jewish Scriptures. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. (Matthew 22:37-38) The worship services are designed to draw us closer to God and to experience His love for us, to grow as disciples in our faith and confidence in God. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. (Matthew 22:39) An important aspect of having a single service is getting to know those around us better. Discipleship always leads to a deeper love of God and one another. I invite you to experience all four Sundays in June and bring a friend when you come. Sunday, June 3 is Red Wagon Sunday! Items needed: Spaghetti sauce and dry noodles, canned fruit, pancake mix and syrup, creamy peanut butter and jelly, 1-lb bags of dried beans, 1-lb bags of rice, Jello, canned meat, mac & cheese, canned veggies, canned ravioli, canned chili, and canned soup. We serve about 60 people a month from our community. Your donations are very needed and much appreciated!

Go to riotexasresponse.org for further information and to register. Asbury Church Sunday, June 24, :30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. Every three seconds someone needs blood. The fact is blood donors save lives. It s that simple and that important. More than four million Americans would die each year if not for blood donors. In the Coastal Bend, more than 150 people a day must donate blood in order to maintain the blood supply for our community. Giving blood is also a great way for donors to gain access to vital information pertaining to their own health. A free mini -physical is given at the time of donation, which includes a screening of blood pressure, pulse, temperature and iron levels. Then, following the donation, blood donors are mailed information regarding their blood type and cholesterol level. All blood donors will receive donor store points and a Sonic coupon at the time of their donation.

5 May Asbury hosted the UM Army Team in the CLC. We fed them on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights. We celebrate Asbury s radical hospitality!

8 New Bible Study! Pastor Trudy will be teaching a 4-week Bible study on the book Resisting Happiness by Matthew Kelly. A true story about why we sabotage ourselves, feel overwhelmed, set aside our dreams, and lack the courage to simply be ourselves... and how to start choosing happiness again! Wednesdays beginning July 11 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the church At Last! A Way to Re-Use Pill Bottles!!! When medicine is dispensed in Africa, it s not given in air-tight bottles. Many times people get them in a tissue or rolled up in a leaf. The Women s Connection is collecting pill bottles of all types and sizes to send to Africa. We are trying to help improve the quality of health care in developing countries by recycling empty, clean, unlabeled pill bottles. This is going to be an on-going project and we need your help. There s a drop-off bin at each entrance of the church. Questions?
