We re at $21,000, and we still have more tootsie rolls to sell! Give yourselves a big round of applause. I have never witnessed the number of volunteers that we had this year. Thanks again to everyone that participated. We held the ID Drive picnic the following Sunday. We had about sixty people in attendance, and a good time had by all! October is a busy Month for us we have two membership drives where we will be selling tootsie rolls. We are also teaming up with the right to life group on the 15 th for a March from St Theresa to Hicks and NW Highway. We have a pancake breakfast on October 30 th as well as the Past Grand Knights dinner. Moving to November, we have an election coming up. I urge every Knight and their family to get out and do your civic duty VOTE! Our fore fathers shed their blood to give us this right. Let s make sure we get to the poles. We will be hosting a spaghetti dinner in November at St Theresa. If you can t help with the dinner, please come eat the dinner. Bring your family out for a home cooked meal, and good conversation with fellow Knights and parishioners. Vivat Jesus, Jim Arns Sr.

2 Chaplain s Corner October is the month of Respecting Life! It is also fittingly the month of domestic violence! The October Sunday Scriptures focus a lot on the necessity of prayer in our life! We can never pray enough! But before we can pray, we must have the faith and belief in our Lord God. What are you praying for? Who are you praying for? Are you praying for yourself? I want to share with you the following prayer: Praying for Myself I asked for health, that I might do greater things I was given infirmity that I might do better things I asked for riches, that I might be happy; I was given poverty, that I might be wise I asked for power, that I might have the praise of people; I was given weakness, that I might feel the need for God I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life; I was given life, that I might enjoy all things I got nothing I asked for, but everything I hoped for; almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered. October 30 th is Priesthood Sunday Priesthood Sunday is a special day set aside to honor Priesthood in the United States. It is a call for parishioners to honor Christ as Priest and the men who were called to be His priests on earth. Since its founding by a parish priest, Fr. Michael J. McGivney in 1882, the Knights of Columbus have always stood in solidarity with our priests. On this Priesthood Sunday, the Knights of Holy Ghost Council #4977, offer our sincere appreciation to the priests of St. Theresa and St. Thomas of Villanova for the sacrifices they have made to be our spiritual shepherds. Our thanks and admiration goes to our priests at: St. Theresa: Fr. Timothy Fairman, Fr. Matthew Jamesson, Fr. Tom Bishop and Fr. Ron Lewinski St. Thomas of Villanova: Fr. Tom Rzepiela, Fr. Marcin Zasada, Fr. Martin Luboyera, Fr. Ray Yadron, and Fr. Mirek Kulesa Say a prayer of Thanksgiving for our current priests. And at the same time pray for all current seminarians and postulants, and for those contemplating joining the religious vocation. I am among all most richly blessed. Rev. Thomas R. Rzepiela, Pastor St. Thomas of Villanova Church 1201 E. Anderson Drive, Palatine, IL fathertom@stov.org Information incorrect in the Council Directory? Did you come across an error in the Council Directory? If so, please send corrections to Deacon John Breit at: John.breit@gmail.com and the electronic version will be updated. Thank you!!!

6 May Jazlene Rest in His Arms Pancake Breakfast in October Join us for breakfast after mass! We will be serving Pumpkin and regular pancakes, eggs, sausage, corned beef hash, coffee and juice. When: Sunday, October 30, :00 AM TO 1:00 PM Where: St. Thomas of Villanova Parish 1201 East Anderson Drive, Palatine Costs: $8.00 per person, $20.00 per family, and $6.00 for seniors On Tuesday, October 4, 2016 nine members of various councils volunteered their time to form an honor guard for the funeral of 6 week old baby Jazlene, who had been abandoned. Quoting from their website: Formed in September 2005, the men and women of Rest in His Arms have provided the final act of dignity and respect for over 32 children in the Chicagoland area. By spiritually adopting these infants and becoming guardian, Rest in His Arms arranges final services that proclaim that these children are precious - even if they only lived for one minute. Providing each child with a name, none of our babies are labelled as a John Doe. Each child is lovingly laid to rest and sent home to the open and comforting arms of our Creator. Sadly, Rest in His Arms is a much needed organization as there are several babies illegally abandoned each year in the state of Illinois. But it does not have to be this way. The Illinois Safe Haven Law ( allows a parent to leave infants 30 days or younger and unharmed, in the arms of staff at any hospital, 24 hour emergency care facility, police station, or manned fire station or college campus security office. Parents cannot be prosecuted for abandonment, and in fact, no questions will be asked. Babies left in Safe Havens receive medical care and then can be adopted into loving families and given a chance at life. Out of work? Money tight? Come eat free. All are welcome! For more information call George Spaghetti Dinner Coming Soon Come and enjoy a great meal and Italian music while bonding with family and friends. Dinner includes Salad, Minestrone Soup, Spaghetti and Meatballs, Sausage, Garlic Bread, Desserts and Beverages. We will also have a children s craft corner, so come on out and bring the family! When: Saturday November 12, :00 PM TO 7:30 PM Where: St. Theresa Parish, Lower Dolan Center 455 North Benton Street, Palatine Costs: Adults: $10.00, Children under 12: $5.00, Families of 4: $28.00 Questions: Contact Bruce Alesi , James Arns Sr or Conrad Bertz October is Right to Life Month. Let s all pray for life!

7 KOC 2016 Vocations Drive Raffle If you haven t already received your raffle books, there are still plenty of ways you can assist Knights of Columbus Council #4977 through our annual Vocations Raffle. Feed My Starving Children Books of 10 tickets run $15.00 each. Purchasing two books for $30.00 enables us to assist five seminarians or oblates in pursuing their call to their respective vocations. Our goal for this drive is to raise $2,600, which would enable us to offer each recipient a $500 scholarship to help defray materials costs and living expenses. We can only do this if each of our members generously supports this worthy cause. Please mail your check and completed raffle books to: Mr. Thomas Nicholas 188 E. Cedarwood Ct. Palatine, IL Or you could bring your check and completed raffle books to our next general council meeting on November 14 th. I have additional raffle books if you could purchase or sell more. Please keep our priests, seminarians and oblates in your prayers. Here is a prayer in support of our men and women called to their vocations: Jesus, you are the Good Shepherd. You know each of us. And you call us by name to serve in faith. Help us respond generously to your voice. Give courage and guidance to those you call to the priesthood and the diaconate, to religious life and lay ministry, so they may respond wholeheartedly and serve devotedly. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Holy Ghost Council #4977 extend their thanks to their members, families, friends and our fellow Knights of Hoffman Estates Council #6964 that came out to the Feed My Starving Children on Tuesday, September Working with other organizations and volunteers the total output for that session was 94 boxes which meant that 20,304 meals were packed. This equates to feeding 56 children for a year. A job well done! Check out Our Facebook Page All Council #4977 members are encouraged to check out our Facebook page.
