2 Page Two OLD ST. MARY S CHURCH April 1, 2018 OUR PARISH MISSION Founded in 1833, Old St. Mary s parish is the first Catholic parish in the Chicago area. Guided for more than a century by the vision of the Paulist Fathers, we are a diverse and welcoming community dedicated to serving the spiritual needs of the Loop, South Loop and the greater Chicago area. As a unified Church and School community, Old St. Mary s Parish promotes the mission of the Paulist Fathers to welcome those who have been away from the church, to build bridges of respect and collaboration with people of diverse backgrounds and religions, and to promote justice and healing in our society. SOUND SYSTEM LOOP RECEIVERS in the SACRISTY Users with a t-coil in their hearing aid can listen to our sound system directly through their hearing aids. Check with your hearing care professional to see if your hearing aid is equipped with a t-coil and properly adjusted. Non-hearing aid users can pick up a loop receiver from the sacristy and listen through a headset. Do You Know a Parishioner Who is Homebound? The homebound are still members of our parish community as members of the Body of Christ. This union becomes real when our Eucharistic ministers take Holy Communion to them in the homes or at a nursing home. If you know of someone who is not able to get to church on a regular basis let us know ( ) and we will arrange for a minister to visit. Fr. Steve Petroff and the Eucharistic Ministry to the Homebound Team Do you have difficulty walking to the front of the church for communion? Please ask an usher to let the communion ministers know where you are so the ministers can bring communion to you. Receiving the Body of Christ is too important to miss out. The ministers do scan the congregation, so if you forget to let an usher know, put your hand up so they can see you. We want to accommodate you. Like the eyewitness accounts in today s scriptures, the glorious and joyful life all around us helps us to believe the good news of the Resurrection and sing Alleluia! In the scriptures today we hear from Peter and Paul and John. All three speak with conviction about witnessing the resurrected Christ. John s Gospel account includes Mary of Magdala, who also was privileged to witness the Resurrection and tell others the good news. On this glorious Easter Sunday can we ourselves give eyewitness accounts that Jesus Christ is risen today, alive and active in our lives? Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. DATE CHANGE FOR ST. In this book Brooks focuses on the deeper values that should inform our lives. Responding to what he calls the culture of the Big Me which emphasizes external success Brooks challenges us and himself to rebalance the scales between our resume virtues (achieving wealth, fame, and status) and our eulogy virtues which exist at the core of our being (kindness, bravery, honesty, and faithfulness) focusing on what kind of relationships we have formed. The book is available from Amazon.com in paperback ($9.72) and kindle ($13.99) editions.
