1 THE 916 BULLETIN Monthly Newsletter of the BENEVOLENT & PROTECTIVE ORDER OF ELKS Lodge #916 Vol. 18 No North Avenue Burlington, VT (802) The Exalted Ruler s Message Hello all! Normally, in March, this would be a message of farewell by the outgoing Exalted Ruler. This year will be different as I will be taking us through the next Fraternal year again. I did have plans to go back through the chairs and be your Exalted Ruler for the year; what I was not planning on was finishing out the year. There were two reasons for agreeing to go through the chairs again. One reason was that we needed to fill an open seat in the chairs. The other reason; I was interested in the 150 th Anniversary of our Order which will be celebrated at the National Convention in San Antonio this July. I guess what they say, be careful what you wish for is true. I remember back in 2002, at the end of my year as ER, I said that a year is too short to accomplish what you want to. This coming year we have some exciting projects lined up. Some have started already with the fixing of the sewer line to the road, replacing the aged air handling units on the roof, and putting a facelift on the coat room. Coming next is a makeover for the main hall along with some improvements in the kitchen as well as the parking lot. We have more in store, but this is where we are at right now. This brings me to something that has been troubling me. We have been trying to start up our dinner dances again and bring more members together for good food, drink and all-around fun. We have tried scheduling events on three different occasions since I have taken over as ER with limited success. The meals were exceptional and the entertainment delightful and still the turnouts have not been good. If you missed the fantastic meal put on by our new chef, Paul Champagne, on French Night you did just that... missed out. I don t believe that it s the price of the events as they are very reasonable. Perhaps it is another reason that I do not see. We have a lot of members and their significant others that work very hard to puts these events on so I would like to hear from you with any suggestions. I would also be interested to hear any complaints or where you think we need improvements. This is your Lodge and we would like it to continue long into the future. This can only be done with YOUR help and YOUR participation. Please reach out to me by either calling the Lodge ext. 106 or me at bpoe916er@comcast.net Sincerely and fraternally, Randall P.
