1 THE 916 BULLETIN Monthly Newsletter of the BENEVOLENT & PROTECTIVE ORDER OF ELKS Lodge #916 Vol. 11, No North Avenue Burlington, VT Hello my fellow Members! It is November and we are stepping into the Holiday season. The leaves have already reached their brilliance and now are falling to the ground. November brings us the Holiday of thanks for giving. Elk s give from the heart and that is what we as Elk s are all about...giving and sharing. I would like to thank all of our members for their giving. Whether it be volunteering, donating, or simply buying raffle tickets to support our charities, I am truly proud of all of you and extremely proud to be your Exalted Ruler. We had a great turn out for our youth soccer shoot on Sept. 25, and we had 5 kids move to the State competition on Oct. 1 st. Of the 5 kids we had two 1 st place winners that will be competing on Nov. 5 th in Liverpool NY. For the regional final, Selmer Miscic for ages 8 & 9, and Sean Clark for ages 10 & 11. My wife Carol and I will be attending this competition that weekend, volunteering and cheering on our 2 players representing the Vt. State Elk s in their age groups. Hooray! If you had not noticed, we have a new tree out front. Donated to the lodge by our Past Exalted Rulers and dedicated to the late PER Diane Hazen. We will be decorating that tree this year for our lighting of the lodge. May it grow full and tall. In October s Elk s magazine the Burlington Lodge was featured at our visit to North End Little League family day with the Drug Awareness trailer. Featured in the picture as Elroy is our own Donna Labonte. Thank you Donna for making us proud! We lost a great Elk in October, Bill Leavitt. Close to 300 people turned out at #916 to celebrate his life. I was unable to attend due to work related issues, but thank all of the officers and PERs that showed in full uniform to show their respect, and thank you Leading Knight Gary Poirier for giving a speech in remembering Bill and all the great things he has done for our lodge. In closing I wish you all good health, and again, thanks for giving Fraternally Yours, November Club News Activity Calendar Caddy Raffle..5 Christmas Party..4 Birthdays... 5 Eldoes Bazaar.6 Eldoes Corner... 5 Elks Care Elks Share..6 Event Planning...3 & 9 Hoop Shoot.6 Kids Xmas Party.8 In Vain We Call....2 Lighting of the Lodge.3 Lodge Notices... 2 Memorial Service..3 New Years Eve Celebration..3 Nomination for Treasurer..2 PER Association Meeting..5 Scholarship Information...6 Silver Tower Golf Shirt..9 Soccer Shoot Results..6 State President & DDGER Visit 4 Steak Night Menus... 4 Thanksgiving Day Bags....8 Volunteer of the Month WhAkY wordies..6 Craig Garrand.
