1 THE 916 BULLETIN Monthly Newsletter of the BENEVOLENT & PROTECTIVE ORDER OF ELKS Lodge #916 Vol. 19 No North Avenue Burlington, VT (802) The Exalted Ruler s Message A new year starts for our Lodge with enthusiasm to continue the upward swing of success in the previous year. The Lodge is doing better with revenue and participation than the past few years. We will work to make that progress even better and get more activities on the agenda that will help with more members volunteering and get people talking positive about our future. That I pledge to you! To make the above happen, it will take members to answer the call when asked to help with even one event or activity. As hard as I or any officer works, it can not get the Lodge to where we all would like to see it be. You as one member can make a difference, and be an important part of this year and share in the pride we can all have come next April. So please, be available when asked, or even see me with an idea or offer to help with whatever your interest happens to be. Attendance at our two monthly meetings has been at an all-time low. That is very discouraging to the officers there, and reduces the information that flows to the membership. Meetings have been kept to an hour or less, unless there are initiations. It is important for the new members to see and be greeted by other members to feel good for having made the effort to join. I would ask you to try and attend one meeting a month to exercise your right as a member and be better informed. It will add to your feeling of pride to be a member, and cause the officers that give so much a feeling their work is worthwhile and appreciated. Your participation will be rewarding all the way around. Keeping the upward swing going starts with you; and you. Congratulation to outgoing Exalted Ruler Randy and his team for the solid footing they left us to start the year. Let s continue moving upward. He has been with us for 37 years, quietly doing his work in the morning hours starting at 6:30. Bob takes a bus from St. Paul & Howard Streets, and sometimes has to walk to the bus terminal at Cherry Street, even in the winter. He is very dedicated and rarely misses a day, even when sick. While doing the Renovation Project through the summer, he was willing to respond to any request I needed so as to be ready for a contractor. Few members ever see him, but the Lodge would be a mess without Bob. The magic of the hall being all setup with tables and chairs, then broken down is also all Bob by himself. He certainly has the appreciation of the officers responsible for the everyday functions. A couple of days prior to my writing this, was his 67th birthday. Congratulations Bob, and hope you had a great birthday!
