Five moths later, the school board still has ot made a decisio o whether to sped the cotested moey. Those takig the survey were as critical of Superitedet Stacy Buckley as they were of the school board, with oe respodet sayig, What she says they follow with 0 questioig. Bristol residet Archie Auger, who had worked for the Newfoud Area School District for 33 years, 25 of those years i admiistratio, said that if the board discouted half of the commets, it s still awful. He said, If you re goig to develop a rapport with the commuity, you have to make some chages. Board Chair Jeff Courtesy Police Chief James McItire (left) ad Lt. That said, the 58 resposes represeted a very small percetage of school district voters. With about 1,200 studets i the district, there should be twice as may parets, alog with gradparets ad others with a direct iterest i the schools, Levesque said. This was reflective of that poit i time, said Buckley. We should ot just throw it away, but I thik that was the situatio at the time. Board member Sharo Klapyk of Dabury poited out that some respodets said they partmet. Also joiig the departmet as a part-time officer is Josiah Towe, who is also a member of New Hampshire Fish ad Game. The additio of Towe, Beach ad Schaffer brigs the departmet back up to its full staffig level of ie full time ad two part time officers. The Bristol Police Departmet is fortuate to have attracted these officers, McItire said. It is a commo ad difficult challege for cities ad tows across the state ad the coutry to attract ad retai qualified people with the right character traits to perform i this professio. We are very pleased to have both of them oboard ad are equally happy to fially ejoy beig fully staffed! were ot familiar with what the school board did, ad she offered the opiio, I do t thik it was that bad. Christie Davol of New Hampto was similarly dismissive of the commets. I do t thik the commuity kows us at all, as to who we are ad what we stad for. They re just ueducated about what we do. Sue Cheey of Alexadria said that, as egative as some of the commets were, The averages were t i the basemet. There were some good ad adequate [ratigs]. But they were a lot lower tha the last time. Vicet Paul Migliore of Bridgewater suggested that it was up to the school board to explai itself to the commuity. He advocated brigig back the plaig ad dialogue meetigs that the school board used to coduct each moth, where the settig was less formal, the focus was o oly oe or two items, ad members of the public could participate i the discussio. Survey results May of the survey respodets were critical of the board s leadership, with oe sayig, The board is merely a puppet to the superitedet. They do ad say what she wats them to do ad say ad follow alog with the iteral corruptio. Aother stated, It is obvious that the superitedet ad fiacial officer ru the board. The board is othig more tha a rubber stamp for what the admiistratio wats. Cheey s respose to such commets was to poit out that, whe it comes to hirig or firig a employee, the board has to follow the Hill Historical Society to host ope house HILL The Hill Historical Society will hold a free Ope House at the Tow Meetig House from 10 a.m. 2 p.m. o Saturday, Sept. 8. Visitors ca view items i the archives ad lear about local history from a self-guided wall pael display which icludes the movig of the Village of Hill to allow costructio of the Frakli Falls Dam, recommedatio of the superitedet. That what we do, she said. Aother respodet wrote, As a taxpayer i the commuity I have ever bee asked my opiio of spedig/ raises/bouses give. This board refuses to aswer questios from the public, aother wrote. They ve created a eviromet that does ot welcome the public s iput. Agai, most of the board is out of touch with the geeral public ad cosiders everyoe that disagrees with them as a adversary. Seakig i that extra moey ito the budget without voter approval, shady to say the least, aother wrote. O the budget, there were commets such as Whe it comes to fiacig, there are a lot of red flags i this area especially with the 2018 budget, The mai goal is to icrease the budget rather tha figure out how to sped the people s moey wisely, ad CIP program is a disaster. School board members said the commets show that people are uaware of all the good thigs happeig at Newfoud. There are some commets o facilities, but we ve spet a lot of time o our academic piece, said Davol. There s a lot of real positives i the academic part. Levesque oted that the school district has a Pricipal of the Year, the superitedet was omiated as Superitedet of the Year, ad studets have a pride i their schools that has bee atioally recogized. We re repeatedly complemeted o our studets sportsmaship, he said. We have a school district that has come a very log way, a federal flood cotrol project. Historical publicatios are available for sale ad HHS members will be there to aswer questios ad accept membership applicatios which iclude a ewsletter of the Society s evets. The September Ope House will coicide with the State s Aual Ope House which allows vehicle traffic i the Old ad we have some of the best teachers available, ad we re recogized for that. I ca t say that was the case six to 10 years ago. Auger commeted, I agree with much of what you ve said, ad have see tremedous growth. But I will tell you that I have ot really heard ayoe address the issue that eeds to be addressed. You have to focus o the reality. To say they re a crackpot, you eed to look at what the perceptio is ad what to do to chage that. It s your resposibility to let yourself be kow for what you stad for. Security Grat I other busiess, the board accepted a $26,400 federal ifrastructure grat that will allow the school district to implemet school security measures, icludig doors ad locks. The grat pays 80 percet of the cost with the school district kickig i the remaiig 20 percet, or $6,600. The board cofirmed the omiatios of Jaso Frekot as eighthgrade coordiator of exteded learig opportuities; Brett Brascombe as geeral music/chorus istructor at the middle school; ad Sheila Carita for special educatio at the high school. Buckley oted that she is still lookig to fill a para-educator positio at the high school, the high school guidace positio resultig from the resigatio of Shelly Philbrick, ad a music positio at the middle school. 4 Opiio A4 Thursday, AUGUST 23, 2018 BY DEB NARO Frequetly asked questios about opioids Cotributor What are opioids? You most likely have heard people talkig about opioids ad ot eve realized it. Oxy, Percs, ad Vikes are all slag terms for opioid pills. Opioids are aturally foud i the opium poppy plat. Some opioid medicatios are made from this plat while others are made i labs by scietists. What are the most commoly used opioids? The most commoly used prescriptio opioids are oxycodoe (OxyCoti ), hydrocodoe (Vicodi ), codeie, ad morphie. How do opioids work? About oe i 100 youg adults betwee the ages of 12 ad 17 curretly misuse prescriptio opioids. Your brai is full of molecules called receptors that receive sigals from other parts of the body. Opioids attach to receptors o erve cells i the brai, spial cord, ad other orgas. This allows them to block pai messages set from the body to the brai, which is why they are prescribed for serious ijuries or illesses. What are the health effects of opioids o the brai ad body? Fifty-seve percet of 12- to 17-year olds who misused prescriptio opioids got them from a fried or relative. I the short term, the release of dopamie ito your body ca make some people feel really relaxed ad happy, but it ca also cause more harmful effects, like extreme sleepiess, cofusio, ausea, vomitig, ad costipatio. Over time, opioids ca lead to addictio. What is prescriptio opioid misuse? Takig your prescriptio i ways other tha istructed, like takig more tha your prescribed dose or takig it more ofte; gettig ad usig prescriptio pills from a fried or family member; takig prescriptio drugs to get high; ad mixig prescriptio opioids with alcohol or other drugs are all examples of misuse that ca lead to serious cosequeces. I have a opioid prescriptio from my doctor; so, they ca t be that bad, ca they? Prescriptio opioids are used to treat severe pai. People who have major surgeries icludig detal work, serious sports ijuries, or cacer are sometimes prescribed these pills to maage their pai. Whe take as prescribed, opioids are relatively safe ad ca reduce pai i the short term. But if a perso misuses the drug ad does t take the drugs as prescribed, opioids ca have dagerous cosequeces. Is it safe to take my fried s prescriptio opioids? Takig someoe else s prescriptio medicie, eve if you are i real pai, ca be dagerous. Before prescribig opioids, doctors cosider the patiet s weight, other medical coditios, ad potetial iteractios with other medicatios they might be takig. Without talkig to a doctor, you wo t kow how the opioids will affect you or what dose you should take. You should ever share prescriptio opioids ad oly use them whe prescribed to you by a doctor. Shelter is ope o Weekeds, 11-4 ad every day except Modays ad Wedesdays Noo to 5p.m Check Givig the Devil his due BY LARRY SCOTT Jamie, a 30-year-old factory worker, ad the ex-husbad of a group of wome challegig his request to be grated paretal custody of his childre, was i deep trouble. The problem was a tattoo, a upside-dow cross o his arm which formed the letter t i the word Sata. He was, he said, a member of the Church of Sata. A sataic priest, called as a expert witess, said that their religio does t believe i a real, persoal devil or i ay god or superatural power. Sataism, istead, worships the ego, the power of self. That s what the upside-dow cross is about, the turig o its head of the Christia values of humility, meekess, ad servitude. Sataism is t really devil worship, he said, sice Sata is just a symbol for pride, liberty ad idividualism (Russel Moore, Tempted ad Tried, p. 129). I, obviously, disagree, for the Bible supports the view of a livig, active, beig, variously called Lucifer, the devil, ad Sata. The Apostle Peter called him, your eemy the devil [who] prowls aroud like a roarig lio lookig for someoe to devour. Workig quietly behid the scees, happy to go urecogized ad igored, there is a persoal force at work i society dedicated to destroy everythig God ad the Christia faith stads for. Ad let s give the Devil his due. The Devil ad the life-style he offers the worship of pride, liberty ad idividualism accurately reflects what the Bible defies as si: self-ceteredess ad absolute freedom to live as we please. No God, o objective stadard of morality, o limits to my drives ad desires. Withi the cotext of commo sese, what is legal, ad what I ca do without hurtig others ad my family, I m goig to do it my way! Ad what, you may ask, is wrog with that? May o-christias live a life-style that is outstadig, respectable, self-disciplied ad worthy of respect. They may be irreligious, God may ever eter their thoughts, but they have it all-together. As oe ma told me, I do t eed God. I hear you, but are you sure? There is oe factor ever covered by such a lifestyle: life after death. To igore the fact of death, comig to each of us whether we are prepared for it or ot, is to me the height of irresposibility. It may be coveiet to live from day to day, takig thigs as they come, ad dey the reality of eteral life, but that does t make it prudet or right. We reveue to the state treasury. Suzae also was a co-sposor of the bill which restructured the Site Evaluatio Committee which provided for more public iput i the process. As you kow this committee was successful i stoppig the progress of the Norther Pass Project by isistig o the value of the effect o idividuals ad local busiesses ad their quality of life. She has also served o local committees like the Coservatio Committee i Hebro ad is always lookig out for the citizes of New Hampshire. There are may more reasos to vote for Suzae, ad I urge you to vote for her i the Primary o Sept 11. are eteral beigs, like it or ot, ad our eteral destiy is at stake. The Bible makes it quite clear: eteral life is a fact for each of us. The oly questio is, how are we goig to sped it? If we walk with God here, we are goig to sped eterity with him, ad that the Bible calls heave; if we live without God here, we are goig to eter eterity without God, ad that the Bible calls hell. Perhaps you ca ow uderstad why I am so passioate to share my faith. My walk with God has ever limited my pride, liberty or idividualism, it has simply placed my drives ad ambitios uder the leadership of a lovig heavely Father. Ad I ca tell you from experiece: God is good! For further discussio, ad your commets, please access my blog at idefeseoftruth.et. Mary Cooey Plymouth

I remember that I first sketched it out i black ad white, because it was for a class i water-color paitig. Whe I had the soft lies of pecil just where I wated them, I paited i the colors. I had chose the red-wiged blackbird because it was amog the first birds of sprig, right alog with the crows, which back the were migratory. The crows, hugry upo arrivig back home, made a lot of oise, beig a garrulous buch by ature. Whe the crew at Pollard s slaughterhouse up o Cooper Hill threw out boes ad offal, they became dowright raucous. It was the caws of crows that somehow became the sigal for my brother Peter ad I to throw our bedroom widow ope for the first breath of sprig air. The youger you are whe you purchase your policy, the lower your aual premiums are likely to be. Keep i mid, though, that a basic LTC policy offers o death beefit or cash value your premiums are oly payig for a ursig home stay, home health care or other type of log-term care service. (Also, eve a good LTC policy will iclude a waitig period before the isurace kicks i ad a maximum amout of coverage, such as three years.) Hybrid/liked beefit isurace Because of some cocers about payig for isurace but ever eedig care with traditioal log-term care isurace, this type of isurace provides a death beefit plus log-term care coverage. You ca accelerate the death beefit to help pay for log-term care costs, ad you ca also choose to create a additioal pool for these costs after the death beefit has bee exhausted., But if you do t eed log-term care, you still have the life isurace death beefit. Due to the death beefit, your premiums will be higher tha those of a traditioal logterm care policy. Life isurace with log-term care/chroic illess rider By choosig a permaet life isurace policy with this rider, you ca accelerate all or part of the death beefit to pay for log-term care costs. (Your death beefit will the be reduced.) This optio geerally provides more flexibility i payig premiums tha a hybrid policy, which may require a larger dollar commitmet. Similar to hybrid, you still have the life isurace beefit if you do t eed care. Which optio is best for you?
