3 107 Lydia Is Coverted Acts 16:9-15 BIBLe BACKGROUND for Leaders God Alters Paul s Plas The Jesus Coectio Although Paul had other plas, he did t hesitate to chage them whe he had clear directio from God i a visio. The text says that they got ready at oce to leave for Macedoia. Ad lookig back o the effect Paul s missioary joureys had o that part of the world, we see that God s strategy i leadig Paul where he did oly improved Paul s origial pla. Wheever Paul came to a ew city, he made it a practice to go to the local Jewish syagogue o the Sabbath to see if a opportuity would arise to share the message of Jesus with the Jews meetig there. However, there must ot have bee a syagogue i Philippi. It took 10 Jewish males to costitute a syagogue, but Jewish me must have bee lackig. Istead, a group of Jewish or God-fearig wome met at a iformal meetig place outside the city. Paul ad his team foud this meetig ad told the wome there about Jesus. Paul did t hesitate to give them his time ad attetio. He wated to reach everyoe he could with God s message of grace. Paul did t waste time woderig about what God wated. He kew. As you sped time with Jesus through Bible study ad prayer, sese his will for you ad make it your ow. Lydia was a stadout i her society, impressive by ay stadard. Do you feel itimidated by others ad too timid to share the love of Christ with them? Eve the least eedy eed Jesus. Choose oe perso to share God s love with i the comig week. Pray for that perso. You ca write your prayer here. Lydia Becomes the First Europea Covert Lydia, the leader of this little group, was a dealer i purple cloth. Purple dye was extremely costly, ad ayoe able to deal i it had to be wealthy. For a woma to be successful ad wealthy o her ow was uusual i that culture, ad it says a lot about Lydia. This woma was the first perso i Europe who Paul led to faith i Christ. Why were all the members of Lydia s household baptized? Though Luke cocetrates o the story of Lydia, that does t mea that others i her family were t preset ad did t believe o their ow. Her childre ad ay servats i her household likely followed her example ad believed i Jesus. Grades 3 & 4 Lesso 10
