2 Brothers, CHAPLAIN S REPORT Christ has died! Christ is risen! Christ will come again! For many years this proclamation has expressed the mystery of our faith and at no other time of the year does this resound as powerfully in our hearts as at Easter. As we live the Easter Triduum each year we enter more deeply into this blessed mystery. Jesus Christ, truly God and truly Man, surrenders his life for our sake, for love of His Church, the people of God. Selfless and loving in his surrender, Jesus Christ wins an everlasting victory over sin and death. He lives and reigns forever. The Good News of this Easter victory is coupled with the fact that by the mercy and grace of God the fruits of the Resurrection and the promise of eternal life are held out to all believers. Christians are baptized into the death of Christ so that we may also share in His Resurrection. So great is our joy that the Church celebrates the seven weeks between Easter and Pentecost as one great feast day. St. Athanasius called this whole period "the great Sunday". Moreover, not only do Christians revel in Christ's victory over the grave but we await with eager hearts his return in glory. Until that great day, we walk daily in this life with our Lord who is truly present with his people. My dear friends, may the joy of the Risen Christ and every Easter blessing be your constant companion until that great day when Christ will come again! Alleluia! Alleluia! Come Lord Jesus! Your chaplain and brother in Christ, Fr. Ray Masse GRAND KNIGHT S REPORT Well hello fellow Knights and families. Another year of Fraternal Services is about to close. The election will take place this month and a new executive will begin their term in July. For those who would like to run for a position on the executive, please let someone know that you are interested. We need you members to step up so this council will continue to serve the community and the charities in the area. Many things had to change in the past few years but these changes have moved us forward in a positive direction. In my newsletters I ve made it known that if it weren t for the many volunteers this community centre (K of C Hall ) would not be here to continue the social gatherings such as parties (Birthday, Anniversary, Christenings) Breakfasts, Showers, Weddings, Funeral wakes, card parties, banquettes etc. 1 What we need most right now is for you younger Knights and your families to step up and take your rightful place in this organization and help those that have put their whole heart and soul to make this council the best that it is. I know if the youth come forth, there will be more mature members and families that will be there to assist their endeavors as the future proceeds. We on the Executive pray that the whole executive board will be filled for the upcoming Fraternal year. Congratulations to the Squirette s of Mary on their 25 th Anniversary. On behalf of the council we would like to thank you for the many years of service and look forward to many more. To all the ladies, Happy Mother s Day. Fraternally yours Grand Knight Robin Beaune VOLUNTEERS WANTED If you have expertise in Plumbing, Electrical, Roofing, Handy Man or if you know of someone who has these qualifications and would like to volunteer their time helping out in support of the hall, please contact us with a name and number. Please call and leave a message or see someone on the board. Thank you in advance FINANCIAL SECRETARY REPORT Brothers, We still have members who have not submitted their annual dues. Membership Fee s are due. Regular Membership is $ Please drop off at the Hall, or mail to my address below. If your Membership is an Honorary Member then the dues are $ Please drop off at the K of C Hall, or mail to my address below. I encourage our members that are NOT in good standing with their membership to contact me as always so that I may assist you in getting your membership into Good Standing. We have a program in place to assist you to get your membership into Good Standing with the Knights of Columbus. Please contact me at any time via and/or phone at the info below. It still cost the council all of the per capita to the Supreme and State Offices. Fraternally Yours, Chuck Roy

He presides over council meetings, acts as an ex-officio member of all committees, appoints a membership and programming director, convenes officers for a monthly meeting, and ensures all necessary reports are submitted to the state and Supreme Council. He should also be aware of the council s financial status and ensure that his signature appears on all checks drawn. The grand knight is a member of the Advisory Board with general supervision of the council s Columbian Squire circle. For more specific duties and responsibilities, refer to the Grand Knight s Handbook (#915). Chaplain The chaplain is the spiritual advisor of the council. He is expected to make a report at council meetings on religious matters. The grand knight appoints a priest in accordance with any rules established by the bishop of the diocese to serve as council chaplain. For more specific duties, responsibilities and eligibility refer to the Chaplain s Handbook (#945). Deputy Grand Knight The deputy grand knight is second in command. He assists the grand knight with council affairs and fulfills all duties assigned to him by the grand knight. Should the grand knight be absent from a council meeting, the deputy grand knight will preside. He is chairman of the council s retention committee and also a member of the Advisory Board charged with overseeing the council s sponsored Columbian Squires circle. Chancellor The chancellor has a variety of responsibilities. Primarily, he assists the grand knight and the deputy grand knight in the execution of their duties and oversees the council in both their absences. He is charged with strengthening the members interests in council activities. The chancellor is chairman of the admission committee and a member of the Columbian Squires circle ceremonial team. Recorder The recorder is similar to a court reporter or a secretary. He is responsible for maintaining a true record of all actions of the council and its correspondence. A
4 Recorder s Minute Book (#1043) is available from the Knights of Columbus Supply Department for keeping a record of council meetings. Financial Secretary The financial secretary is appointed by the supreme knight, upon recommendation of the council. His main area of responsibilities is maintaining all financial and membership records. He collects and receives all moneys from all sources, including annual dues from council members. He also handles supply orders for the council officers and members, filing the Report of Officer (#185), and submitting all membership transactions to the Supreme Council. For more specific duties and responsibilities, refer to the Financial Secretary Handbook (#1410). Treasurer The treasurer is responsible for the safekeeping and maintaining records of all council funds and accounts. He is responsible for depositing money into the council s accounts and provides a certificate of such monies to the grand knight. He is also responsible for payment of all expenses. Lecturer The lecturer is appointed by the grand knight to provide both educational and entertaining programs to the council. He is responsible for the Good of the Order portion of council meetings. In order to provide members with informative and educational programs, he must be knowledgeable and aware of all council programming. Advocate The advocate is the legal representative of the council and serves as the council s attorney at trials and investigations of any interest to the council. While he does not need to be a member of the legal profession, he should be familiar with the council by-laws, the Order s Charter, Constitution and Laws (#30), Methods of Conducting a Council Meeting (#1937), and Robert s Rules of Order. Warden The warden is the watchdog for council property and degree paraphernalia except the property of the financial secretary, treasurer and recorder. He is also responsible for setting up the council chambers for meetings and ceremonial work. During ceremonial exemplifications, he will appoint and supervise guards. Inside & Outside Guards The guards have similar responsibilities, but distinct differences. The outside guard tends to the outer door admitting visitors and members to the inner door. Once at the inner door, the inside guard checks to make sure that their membership cards are current. Trustees The board of trustees consists of three members elected by the council and the 3 grand knight, who serves as chairman of the board. They oversee the work of the financial secretary and treasurer, and with the deputy grand knight serve on the council s retention committee. During council elections, only the three-year trustee is voted on, with the others moving on to become two- and one-year trustees, respectively. KC EXECUTIVE ELECTIONS Elections for the K of C Executive will be held at the May 14 General Meeting. If you are interested in running for a position but can not make the meeting send in a letter of intent and you will still be able to run for an office. Brothers: COLUMBIAN CLUB REPORT We had a very good turnout for Good Friday fish fry - over 270 attended and we want to thank all of the volunteers who helped make this event another success. Special thanks to Percy & Gladys Dufour for donating the desserts - they were delicious as usual. We have several weddings coming up in May and June and are working with a very good catering service to help us cook the meals for these events. It is these events that keep the Hall open so it is very important to provide the great food and service we are known for. We are still looking for cooks and bartenders, so if you know someone who is interested and has SmartServe, let Robin or myself know. I would like to congratulate the Squirettes on the occasion of their 25 th Anniversary celebration May 3 rd, they have been such an important part of our Council Family over the years and we look forward to many more in the future. Don t forget to get tickets for their lobster Fest in May also. I would like to thank the Squires for providing dishwashers whenever we ask for them - we really appreciate their help. If you are interested in booking the Hall for an event, please call Marcella Martin to see if your date is available. We are looking forward to the Gold tournament in July/August this year again so keep an eye on next month s Bulletin for more information.
5 We will be having nominations in May and elections in June for Columbian Club president and two Director s positions, so please come out and make it known if you are interested in running for a position. Due to my work commitments I will not be running for President. Fraternally, McGregor Columbian Club Board of Directors Dale Martin, President We are no longer serving Broasted Chicken on Friday nights - special order of 50 or more pieces with 2 days notice only. Thanks EVENT COMMITTEE IF YOU HAVE SOME GREAT IDEAS TALK TO US!!!!!!!! The events committee would like to thank all organizing members, volunteers and participants for each event held. It only inspires us to continue to come up with events that interest the entire community. A lot of hard work goes into organizing these events so again if you wish to volunteer on the committee or the events please submit your name at the hall or to myself at golfer_041@yahoo.ca Please take a look at the "Dates to Remember" page for additional dinners etc... Please come out, participate in the upcoming events and support your local Council and Hall. Remember, do not wait until the last minute, these events require the ordering of supplies/food in advance and at some events tickets are limited. Finally, if anyone would like to volunteer for any of these events or would like to be part of any committee please contact the Hall and give them your name or me directly at golfer_041@yahoo.ca. 6 DISTRICT DEPUTIES REPORT Dear Brother Knights and families, I hope all enjoyed the Convention for those that attended, unfortunately I was unable to attend personally due to work commitments. Elections will be held by all Councils at the May 2014 General Membership meetings please consider running for a position in your Council it is very rewarding to volunteer for your council executive and donate your time and knowledge. If you are not sure of what the positions entail please ask your Grand Knight he can give you all the information you need. May is the time when everything starts looking renewed, spring is finally here after such a long cold winter, lets pray for the farmers that they may have a good growing season this year. I will inform the Grand Knights of upcoming Degrees as they become available. I urge all members to try and make it to your respective Council meeting in May, it is your Council so have a say in choosing your executives for the term and help make the order stronger. Have you asked someone to join our order lately? If not go ahead and make the first move and invite a catholic gentleman to join our ranks and bring him to his degrees. FREE FREE FREE. That is the current charge for you to sit down with your field agent and have him complete a financial needs analysis on you and your family. At his disposal is the Canadian Profiles Forecaster software program. Forecaster provides an accurate account of where, financially speaking, you are today and where you should be, so please contact your agent he will be glad to sit down and go over this with you. Vivat Jesus, Dale Martin District Deputy ONE MEMBER, PER COUNCIL, PER MONTH Think You Are Too Old for Coverage? Maybe Not You are never too young or too old to consider purchasing life insurance. If you have a financial need for coverage, or will in the future, a permanent life insurance policy can be just the thing you need. When you are young and presumably healthy, coverage will be very inexpensive when compared to purchasing the same policies when you are older. If you ve put off purchasing coverage, or you realize that you may need additional insurance, the Order may still be able to help you, even if other companies cannot. In fact, in 2012, the issue age of our permanent life insurance products was extended to age 80. Naturally, your health, and whether or not you smoke, will be taken into consideration, so underwriting standards for risk and age apply, but the extension is a great blessing for me and it could be for you too. Now I can help members that I couldn t help before. Are you or one of your brother knights one of those members? Whether you re 18 or 80, the Knights of Columbus has products that will work for you and your family. I look forward to discussing coverage with you.
