Welcome and Introduction - Rabbi Pam Frydman Community Wide Vigil for Pittsburgh October 28, 2018 at Congregation Emanu-El, San Francisco San Francisco Interfaith Council (Michael Pappas, Executive Director) Read by Stephen Ader In a devastating act of anti-semitic violence, fueled by the divisive political rhetoric plaguing our nation, an active shooter entered the Tree of Life Congregation in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on the holy Jewish Sabbath day, and killed eleven defenseless souls at worship. We stand together as a community with our Jewish sisters and brothers, to demonstrate our solidarity and resilience and reject the normalization of violence against the Jewish community, or any community, in our country. We stand together as one community, against hate, to send prayers for comfort and peace to Pittsburgh, and to reaffirm our commitment to building a very different future for our country. -2-

Supervisor Elect Gordon Mar Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá'ís of San Francisco By Charleen Maghzi-Ader, Secretary The Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá'ís of San Francisco is deeply saddened by the news of the sudden hateful massacre and injury of innocent worshippers who gathered at the Tree of Life Congregation in Pittsburgh. Our community offers its heartfelt prayers that the families and friends will be solaced, that the injured will be healed, and that the souls of the departed will be embraced by our loving Creator. May the souls of those so senselessly slain find peace and their good works live on in the hearts of their friends, families and community. And it is but part of a shocking rise of hate crimes and incidents of bigotry over the past two years in the US and elsewhere. Read by Jeff Dielle This is just the latest of what appear to be hate-driven incidents targeting people simply because of their identity, ethnicity, race, religion, or beliefs. Even as we seek to build and sustain a campus community where everyone -- everyone -- feels welcome, respected and safe, we also must stand and work together with all who believe in and are committed to a peaceful, equitable world where differences are celebrated. At this and all times, we stand in solidarity with all religious and ethnic minorities in the United States. Interfaith Council of Contra Costa County Rev. Will McGarvey, Executive Director. Read by Jeff Dielle We share our shock and solidarity with the Jewish Community of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and all of those effected by the shootings in the Jewish community around the world. We find it outrageous that anyone would target any house of worship, especially for the offered reasons as an attempt to punish a religious community that has served migrants after having experienced immigration so much themselves. Any form of anti-semitic religiously motivated violence must end, just as every other form of injustice must find an end. We also offer our ongoing solace and support to the congregation and families of those killed or wounded. Let us continue to work for a day when ideological violence, racial exceptionalism and lone wolf attacks against any community become a long-gone memory of the past. -4-
