We have been fighting for more than a decade to remove a large encroachment by a lady who is occupying more than half the width of the approach road to our colony from Indian Bank Bus Stop and connecting Balakrishna Mudali Street. She is running a private business on the encroached space. Due to the encroachment, the road is reduced to less than half the width, Corporation lorries finds it difficult to approach the road to collect the daily garbage from the bin kept near the encroachment. Due to the narrowing of the road, vehicles are forced to drive over the storm water drain on the opposite side resulting in it often getting damaged After fighting the case in court for a number of years, a judgment was passed favouring the appellant and the court ordered the Corporation to remove the encroachment. But till date no action has been taken by the Corporation officials to implement the court order. We wonder why the officials are sleeping over the court order unless there is a powerful nexus between the encroacher and local officials. We have also made an online complaint in the Corporation portal and Amma s cell but still no action has been taken. Gokulam Colony Residents Natesan Street excluded from enumeration Sir, I am a resident of Natesan Street which was badly affected during the recent floods. The Tahsildar/Revenue inspector last week visited the nearby Thukaram Street and New Postal Colony (behind Siva Vishnu Temple) and did enumeration for distribution of flood relief amounts by noting down names, addresses and bank account numbers of the residents. But they left without collecting details from the residents of our street. I, along with some other residents, immediately visited the Tahsildar s office in Saidapet and lodged a complaint. But so far the enumeration has not been done. It is unjust if the residents of our street are deprived of flood relief funds as we too incurred heavy losses due to the floods. SADANAND In Sickness and Health Getting sick once in a long while is good because one can revel in the thought that one has hit the enemy perhaps at a loss of a kilo or two of excess fat around one s waist. It is nature s warning that food is good in moderation but, beyond an imaginary boundary, your body does not score a six, but you become sick. These sweet thoughts accompanied me when I went to say howdy to a sick relative in a spanky hospital where a silent elevator took me to the topmost floor, in which my quarry was ensconced in a splendid room with all the good things one could attach to a VIP niche in sickness and health. Splendid, I said. From the car to the silent lift and then this, I said, praising her tastes. She did not look so uplifted at my creamy remarks but said that, if they had doubled the tariff, the payer would be Arun Jaitley and not she since she was a Central Government pensioner who is the ward of the C.G.H.S and, apart from Modi, the boss, nobody would spend a second thought on the bill. That is a sound pat for the Central Government. You can afford to be sick but chaps like me can t think of anything more than an Anacin though, on my voluntary exit from the Bar, I had applied for the government one-throw grant of a few lakhs of rupees more than six years ago. Flood relief materials worth Rs. 30,000 were distributed among the poor students of Sarada Vidyalaya Girls Higher Secondary School (T. Nagar) last week. Volunteers of Exnora Inter-national (Greater Chennai) distributed the relief mater-ials bought with funds donated by Bahrain Asry Tamil Sangam and NRIs. Broken drain poses danger to motorists The slab covering the opening in the storm water drain at the junction of Arangappan Street and K. R. Koil Street (West Mambalam) was damaged by a tanker lorry on Dec. 26. The broken slab has fallen into the drain leaving a large opening which poses a danger to motorists. The drain is close to the road margin and is barely visible during night. Calling volunteers for free service in Tirumala Sevas (Pallavaram) sends volunteers to Tirumala for a week-long free service starting on Mondays and ending on Sundays. The center had to be closed down for more than ten days. A doctor told Mambalam Times that most of the equipment in the ground floor, which includes maternity ward, pharmacy, outpatient / inpatient wards, physiotherapy center and post maternity ward, were damaged. According to the police, after the girl s family had lodged a police complaint, investigators instructed the girl to call the accused (a resident of MGR Nagar) for a meeting in Guduvancheri. They cornered him there and took him into custody. Police told Mambalam Times that the girl and Srinivasan became friends via Facebook a year ago. They started to chat regularly and later met in Madambakkam (near Guduvancheri) last February. Srinivasan, through his smooth talk, made the girl give him her 5-sovereign chain saying that he was passing through hard times and was in need of money. He later started evading her online and refused to meet her. The girl informed her parents and a police complaint was lodged.
