You ll find out what s going on in our council and assembly and you will be able to take an active part by expressing your views and opinions on the issues. Grand Knights Comments Brother Knights, It is my pleasure to be serving as your Grand Knight. I also want to thank all the new officers for stepping up and accepting their positions. We are beginning a new fraternal year. With this in mind, our children will be beginning a new school year as well. Please remember to slow down around school zones. While we are the subjects of new beginnings, let us be aware of Christ s institution of Reconciliation. Jesus is allowing us to be freed from our sins and begin with a clean slate. What better way of getting a new start. Reconciliation gives you an opportunity. Take the time to receive this wonderful sacrament. Ramiro Ochoa I was fortunate enough to attend the State council in May. One of the themes was to be a light. Which coincidently was also the theme for the Teen ACTS retreat. We as brother Knights have every opportunity to be someone s light. There is always someone in need. It can be a small gesture such as opening the door for someone. There are many opportunities within this parish where we can volunteer. If you are active, great and if you have not been involved lately, you are always welcome. It would be great to see everyone participate in something throughout the year. As Mario mentioned last month we are in need of some fund raising to replace our BBQ pit. So we will need the help. Your Brother in Christ OLMC KofC Installation of Officers Ramiro Ochoa Que Viva Christo Rey! Meet our new KofC Officers. You ll be surprised as to who they are! Continued on PG 5

3 Fellow Sir Knight Departs For Seminary! Prayer To Know My Vocation Lord, I want Matthew to be happy in this life and spend eternity with You in the life to come. From the first moment of his existence, You knew his vocation. Please help him discover Your plan for his life. Help him to know himself, Help him to overcome his fears. Help him to want what You want. Help him to trust You completely. Send Your Holy Spirit into his mind and heart so he can see the gifts You have given him and hear Your call to serve the Church. Increase his desire to bring others to You and help them reach heaven. Seminarians from left to right: Aaron Lugo, Luis Lozano, Matthew Perales and Michael Winterroth Mary Most Holy, Mother of God pray for Matthew, that he can discover his vocation and have the courage to respond in faith. Amen Matthew Perales was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on August 22, He was raised by his two aunts and attended Catholic schools from the age of four years old until he graduated from high school. After graduation, he attended Del Mar College and Texas A &M University. At the age of eighteen, he joined the Knights of Columbus and not only became a member but quickly moved to complete his 4th degree as well as becoming the youngest to serve the ofkicer position of Grand Knight at our Our Lady of Mount Carmel (OLMC) council at the age of twenty. Shortly after his First Communion, he volunteered as an Altar Server for 11 years and later was personally asked by Msgr. Mark Chamberlin if he could take charge of all new altar servers as well as be a mentor and leader in training newly appointed altar servers. Always being involved in parish activities and events Matthew signed up for the men s an A.C.T.S. Retreat when he was seventeen years of age. Matthew said, it was a wonderful experience for me. Since then, he has been very active and involved in the men and teen s A. C. T. S. retreats. Matthew is very energetic and assisted in facilitating the Teens Growing in Faith (TGIF) religion education program at OLMC and once a month, he assists with the Teens TGIF Mass on the Kirst Sunday of each month. Eager with wanting to be more involved in the parish other than just serving as an Altar Server, Matthew decided to become a Eucharist Minister and has now served faithfully in this ministry for several years. In November of 2018, Matthew decided to apply for the Seminary with the guidance and help of Father Romeo. Bishop Mulvey has accepted his application to go into the Seminary. Matthew will be attending St. Joseph Seminary in Louisiana on August 11, of this year. He says, I am looking forward to St. Joseph Seminary because of its focus on spirituality. Jesus still calls men to be priests just as He called the apostles. The ministerial priesthood is a call to share in the one priesthood of Jesus Christ so that his unique saving mission may continue in the world. It is through the priesthood that God continues the salvation of the world. This is accomplished through a number of means including pastoral work, proclamation of the Holy Word of God, and the celebration of the sacraments, especially the Eucharist and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Matthew ask that we all keep him in our daily prayers and he will in-turn keep us in his. Sir Knight Matthew, your brother Knights bid you farewell and may you go confidently in the direction of your dreams and live the life you ve imagined! Page 3

The symbolic ceremony was followed by a Night of Celebration with family and friends. 6 SEPTEMBER 2018 KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS Saturday July 29th marked the 4th Degree Installation of all the officers in the Corpus Christi Diocese at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Corpus Christi. The Color Corps is an ELECTIVE division of the Fourth Degree, whose distinctive presence in parades, wreath-laying ceremonies, confirmations and other Catholic functions is a visible reminder of our service to the community. The tuxedo, chapeau, cape and sword worn by the Color Corps were inspired by 19th century naval uniforms, with different cape colors representing nine different program ranks. The ceremonial sword symbolizes Christian Knighthood, and is carried to signify reverence to Church, Eucharist, country and freedom. Color Corps members wear the colors with pride, knowing they represent the very best of the Knights of Columbus. Thank you to all who attended the installation on Sunday July 30, 2018 at St Patrick's. Our 4th degree is the Patriotic degree of the Knights of Columbus. If you would like to become a 4th degree Knight submit your completed Form 4 to the Faithful Navigator John Panek. 7 August Calendar events contd. from pg. 4 SEPTEMBER 2018 CALENDAR EVENTS: Michael J. McGivney (Sun. 12th) Born to Irish immigrants in Waterbury, Connecticut, on August 12, The eldest of 13 children (seven of whom survived to adulthood), he studied for the priesthood and was ordained on Dec. 22, 1877, and was assigned to St. Mary s Church in New Haven, where he founded the Knights of Columbus in By his holy life, exemplary virtue, piety and priestly character, he was recognized by many as a saint in the making. He was also a priest of great vision and foresight who anticipated the Second Vatican s Council proclamation of the Universal Call to Holiness by empowering laypersons to take leadership positions. Never robust in health, Father Michael McGivney fell sick with pneumonia in January 1890 while serving as pastor of St. Thomas Church in Thomaston, Conn. After months of attempted cures and laboring to carry on his pastoral duties, he died on Aug. 14, two days past his 38th birthday. His funeral in his home parish in Waterbury was attended by throngs of faithful who recognized his virtue and sanctity. Through the Knights, Father McGivney sought to form Catholic men into good spouses and fathers. He has become known as Apostle to the Young and Defender of Christian Family Life. He saw strong families as the foundation of his parish, of the Church and of society at large. He was convinced that the Catholic layman had a unique role in influencing society and promoting the values found in what Pope John Paul II has since named the Culture of Life and the Civilization of Love.
