Matthew 18:19 HATE NOT - I will permit no one to narrow and degrade my soul by making me hate them. Booker T. Washington GOD S WATCHERS In the ancient world watchmen were extremely important people. They kept communities safe, and were there to alert them to any impending danger or attack. Before locks, alarms, and security systems, watchmen were the protectors, the safety measure. So when the Lord charges Ezekiel as a watchman today, it is a weighty charge. So weighty, we learn, that if Ezekiel fails to sound the alarm for those around him and they perish in a state of wickedness, Ezekiel will be held responsible! This profound connection between God s will on earth and in heaven is repeated in today s Gospel, where Jesus instructs us that we are to be the security force, the watchers placed on alert that nowhere in the Body of Christ, the church, will there be any two members of the one Body who are not reconciled. Scripture tells us that Jesus reconciled all things in heaven and on earth through the blood of his cross. But we are given the mission to continue that reconciliation on earth as in heaven through our ceaseless efforts to be, as Paul would write, ambassadors of reconciliation. Let us not get too comfortable thinking that we are responsible only for keeping our own lives from the path of wickedness and disagreement. We are also held accountable for the lives of the members of Christ s body around us. TODAY S READINGS First Reading: Warn the wicked, trying to turn them from their ways (Ezekiel 33:7-9). Psalm: If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts (Psalm 95). Second Reading: Owe nothing to anyone, except mutual love (Romans 13:8-10). Gospel: If two agree about anything for which they pray, it shall be granted to them (Matthew 18:15-20). Cornelius and Cyprian Why do we have to go to Mass? HERE ARE TEN Good REASONS TO GO TO MASS: Part II 6) People need our prayers. We can pray for others anytime. However, when we pray for people during Mass, we pray in a very special way. It does not matter if the person is there or not or if the person is living or deceased. The Mass brings us together in the Body of Christ. As a result we become the communion of saints. It is part of the cosmic dimension of the Mass. This unites heaven and earth by reaching across time and space. Being a Catholic Christian is counter-cultural. When we are at Mass we have the opportunity to stand and publicly proclaim what we believe. We state that we believe in God The Father, In Jesus, in the Holy Spirit, in the Holy Catholic Church, in the communion of saints, in the forgiveness of sin and in life after death. This is a powerful statement that gives us an opportunity to recommit ourselves. Next week number 8-10

St. Paul s letter to the Romans tells us, Owe nothing to anyone, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. So, just what is love? While love is a natural feeling that all humans experience, this is not the kind of love that St. Paul is referring to. He is talking about love that gives, not love that takes. Love is giving oneself to God and in doing so, is giving oneself to another. A great way to love God is to spend time with Him and others studying His Holy Scriptures. We can learn the true meaning of God s love for us and how we can become closer to Him by loving one another. It is in giving that we receive. St. Francis. Thank you for your generosity! Vigésimo Tercero Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario Ezequiel le ordena a los creyentes amonestar al malvado para que se aparte del mal camino. Y el diseño del proceso que Jesús perfila en el Evangelio de hoy parece no excluir sino reconciliar. La meta de corregir es reincorporar de nuevo en la comunidad al infractor con una resolución en la que no hayan perdedores: no se trata de demostrar quién manda sino más bien de que habrás salvado a tu hermano (o hermana). Jesús usa explícitamente hermano (hermana) a fin de enfatizar que el infractor todavía es parte de la familia. Y aún más, la discreción reina: la reconciliación comienza privadamente, entre la víctima y el infractor, de manera que aun protege al perturbador de una humillación pública. Aun si se hiciera necesario que la comunidad se involucre, no hay que aliarse en contra de la persona ni tomar partido. Apártate de él como de un pagano o de un publicano. Si esta disposición final de Jesús para con un discípulo no arrepentido suenan duras al oírlas de pronto, recordemos como él trató realmente a los paganos y publicanos. Alabó a una mujer pagana al decirle, qué grande es tu fe! y envió a los Once encargándoles: Vayan y hagan discípulos a todos los pueblos (paganos). Efectivamente, el mismo Mateo era un publicano, un cobrador de impuestos (colaborador con el gobierno romano), que celebró su nuevo discipulado reuniendo en su hogar, no purificado ritualmente, a muchos recaudadores de impuestos y pecadores para comer con Jesús. Por tanto, en la comunidad de Jesús la corrección mutua no es nunca un castigo ni una venganza, ni tampoco se trata de sellar disputas; sino que, por el contrario, es una victoria para el amor. Tal como lo expresa Pablo, No tengan con nadie otra deuda que la del amor mutuo, porque el que ama al prójimo, ha cumplido ya toda la ley. Pregunta de la Semana A qué persona, que es parte de mi vida, debo en este momento preciso ganar para el Señor? Cómo trato a aquellos que me han ofendido o que se han separado de la comunidad o de la familia?

You can also register after all Masses on Sunday September 10th. Copies of Baptismal Certificates are mandatory for all registrations. Kindergarten-5th will begin Faith Formation on Wednesday evenings at 5:45-7:00 PM beginning September 13th. Sixth through Eighth THE EDGE-will meet every other Sunday beginning September 17th after attending the 11:00 AM Mass together and will end at 3:00 PM. Confirmation classes, for those who have completed their full two years prior to this class, will begin Sunday, September 17th at 9:00 AM in the Parish Hall, ending with attendance at the 11:00 AM Mass. Registrations for Confirmation for Adults who have already received Baptism and Communion are being accepted. Classes will begin on Monday, October 16th, and will occur every other week through March. YOU MUST REGISTER BY OCTOBER 10. Please the Faith Formation office to register at: You must bring copies of your baptismal and communion certificates for the first session. Calendars for all sessions can be found on the west wall of the narthex on the Faith Formation Bulletin Board. CALLING ALL ST. JOAN OF ARC LADIES to CCW Your SJOA Council of Catholic Women begins their new fiscal year at the first meeting on Thursday, Sept. 14. If you are a current member you know it is time to renew your membership and if you would like to join, we would love to have you. General Meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month in the Library. We begin with the 9 AM Mass (optional). The dues are still only $10 per year. If you are not sure please come to the meeting as our guest and learn about all of the good works, events, fun times and shared spirituality to be experienced with our CCW sisters. We are family. The Mass will be for Frank Saliba, husband of our member Mary Saliba. WE ARE SEARCHING FOR VOLUNTEERS! Catholic Charities Respite program is looking for volunteers who want to have some fun and make a difference in someone s life. The Respite program serves the elderly with memory loss issues. Four hours one day a week and a good sense of humor is all we need. Mary Jo has a Masters in Education and a Masters in Theology, with 30 years experience teaching Deacon Candidates, Teachers and Catechists. That success is dependent on you and our community. Perhaps you, a family member or neighbor are downsizing; or, there are items in your home and garage that you may no longer need, but are something that someone else can use. We need volunteers (men and women) to work the tables. Men are really needed to help in the area of tools; TV s, radios, lamps; electrical gadgets and the like. Start putting those items aside now for delivery to the Parish Hall starting on Thursday, October 12 th. Some good sellers include kitchen gadgets; dishes; glassware; small appliances; flatware; toys; dolls; stuffed animals; books; games; puzzles; sports items; tools; linens; lamps; holiday décor; knickknacks; and framed or unframed art; and craft supplies. PLEASE, no clothing; handbags; shoes; computers and components; or religious articles! All donated items should be clean, in good working condition and, something that someone would want to purchase and use. Jewelry may now be brought to the Parish Office anytime during regular business hours or left at our Welcome Desk before and after weekend Masses.
