Amen. Sacramental Information Baptism Takes place on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Before scheduling your child s Baptism, you must attend a preparation class. Call the parish office to make arrangements. First Eucharist Celebrated each spring, available to youth who have completed required preparation. First Reconciliation Celebrated each spring, available to youth who have completed required preparation. Confirmation Celebrated each year and available to youth who have completed required preparation. Reconciliation Available Saturdays at 4:00 PM or by appointment. During Advent and Lent Saturday Reconciliation will begin at 3:00 PM. Communal Services are also scheduled during Advent and Lent. Marriage Diocesan policy requires 6 months preparation time. Contact parish office for appointment. RCIA RCIA is a process for fully initiating adults into the Catholic faith. It is for those who have never been baptized, or were baptized and/or raised in another Christian denomination and are now interested in becoming Catholic. This process is also for Baptized Catholics who never completed their initiation through the sacraments of Eucharist and/or Confirmation. If interested, please contact the parish office at Eucharist for the Homebound If you or a member of your family cannot attend Mass because of illness or disability, a Minister of Care will bring Communion to you. 3 Readings and Resources Sunday Reflection Our Sanctuary Lamp LOVE ONE ANOTHER In the Gospel for the Sixth Sunday of Easter we are met with an extraordinary challenge: Jesus commands us to love one another as I love you (John 15:12). The letter from John echoes this command. Of course, we are to love those in our family, those we work with, those we like. But the scriptures make clear that we are also to love those we never notice, those we purposely avoid, and even those we are tempted to despise. In this Sunday s selection from the Acts of the Apostles Peter shows us how far God s love extends, and how far our love should extend in response. Peter realizes that God no longer shows partiality to the Jews, sharing divine love exclusively with them. Christ has revealed that God s love extends to all people, and so should ours. Our sanctuary lamp is a 7-day candle that is always lit above the tabernacle. If you would like to contribute $20 to the cost of the weekly candle we will print a Thank You in the bulletin. You are also welcome to make the donation in memory of a loved one or loved ones. There are envelopes on the book racks for your donation. Just include a paper that states how you would like your name and/or the names for memorials printed. Names will be printed in the bulletin in the order in which they are received, either in the collection or at the office. Paluch Co., Treasures From Our Tradition In ancient Rome, the beautiful month of May was dedicated to the goddess Flora, the patroness of flowers and new life. May 1 was considered the beginning of abundant growth, and a day for public festivals aimed at expelling winter. Even after Christianity took hold, the customs of the pagan feast lingered behind. Long ago, there was a thirty-day devotion to Mary, sometimes called Lady Month, which began on August 15. By the eighteenth century, the custom of assigning devotions to months of the year was developing. June, for example, was the month of the Sacred Heart, and October was for the Holy Rosary. Beginning with the Jesuit Order in Rome and spreading throughout the world, May has been celebrated as the month of Mary, the Blessed Mother, for more than two hundred years. That was a welcome remedy to some enduring pagan practices, such as maypole dancing and the crowning of the May Queen. Some historians say that in ancient times the May Queen was actually a human sacrifice. Devoting May to Mary is undoubtedly a better thing to do. 8 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal Pledge Report The 2018 Ministries Appeal is underway. This is the first report. Thank you to all who have pledged. Thank you for your generosity. Your gifts will benefit so many through the thirty ministries our annual appeal supports. Our parish s goal for the 2018 CMAA is $ 53,300. Our hope is that every parishioner will contribute as Partners in Caring, as every gift-large and small makes a difference. If we raise more than our goal, 70% of the amount paid over goal will be returned to us for our use. This is an amazing opportunity for our parish! Please prayerfully reflect on your pledge to this year s CMAA. In-pew envelopes are still available in the church, or you can make a gift online at jolietdioceseappeal.org. Therefore, Holy Ghost will be staffing the second week (6/8-9/18) as we have been doing during the winter months. You will see volunteer sign-up sheets for those dates starting May 19/20 through June 1/2. Because of changes PADS is making to the summer sites, Holy Ghost will not be needed as a host site on Friday nights during July and August. CORE will keep you informed if other changes and needs occur for this summer. CORE thanks all of the volunteers who have staffed the winter PADS site. Come and browse for a treasure you never knew you needed! Books, Crafts, Toys, Clothing, Artificial Flowers, School items and more! Keep in mind that each of you has your own vineyard. But every one is joined to your neighbors vineyards without any dividing lines. They are so joined together, in fact, that you cannot do good or evil for yourself without doing the same for your neighbors. St Catherine of Siena The Dialogue (24) Reflections from the Saints Respect Life On Holy Saturday we received a call at 8 am from Holly, sidewalk counselor outside Planned Parenthood in Aurora. She said she was sending a couple over in a white van. When they arrived at Waterleaf, one of our patient advocates met with the couple. The father said they had scheduled a 7:15 am appointment at PP and they intended to abort. When they arrived for their appointment, he stated it appeared PP was "closed." He thought it was a sign and they couldn't do "this", especially on "this day." He said the sidewalk counselors outside PP directed them to Waterleaf. Our medical team performed a pregnancy test and an ultrasound, confirming they were indeed pregnant. After further conversation with our team, they stated they intend to parent. Miracle happen at Waterleaf everyday through the intercession of the Holy Spirit and the support of parishioners like you. Your prayers and support of Waterleaf are greatly appreciated. 12 Around the Diocese Our Lady of Peace Parish Annual Diocesan Ros-a-Ree Scout Retreat Attention ALL Scouts Male and Female. The Annual Diocesan Ros-a-Ree Scout Retreat / Campout for this year will be held starting on Friday, August 10 th, at 5pm until Sunday, August 12 th at 12pm. It will be held on the grounds of St. Mary s church in Plano (901 N Center St). This retreat satisfies the retreat requirement needed for many of the Religious Recognitions. This year a special Ad Altare Dei Orientation class will be held at the Ros-a-Ree for those who pre-register for it and the class itself. The event is open to ALL Scouts (male or female) who are entering the 6 th grade or higher in the Fall. Registration beforehand is required.
