1 PROCLAMATION PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Morning Worship, p.3 11 a.m. To Live is Christ, to Die is Gain Rev. Ben Falconer preaching Mr. Jeremy Johnson assisting Evening Prayer Service 6 p.m. Church News, p. 8 September 6, 2015 To Glorify God & EnJoy Him Forever.

2 Welcome The Lord s Day Sunday, September 6, 2015 Welcome to Proclamation Presbyterian Church, a congregation committed to the historic Christian faith. We believe that the Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God, and that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God who became man, was crucified as the atoning sacrifice for the sins of His people, on the third day was raised from the dead, and one day will come again in power and great glory. Our desire is to glorify God by teaching His Word faithfully, living for Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit, and bearing fruit for His Kingdom. Later in the service, there will be an opportunity for you to record your attendance with us in the Service of Friendship pad. If you are visiting with us, we especially encourage you to sign your name and address so that we can greet you personally. We look forward to meeting you after the service. During our worship time, please remember that we come to worship a Holy God who gives us the grace to live for Him. Kindly turn all cell phones and pagers off during the service. There are large print Bibles and hearing assist devices available in the narthex. Also, for our Chinese, Korean and Spanish-speaking visitors, there are bibles showing the text in your language and English side-by-side. Please return the bible to the narthex after the service. While children of all ages are warmly welcomed in our worship service, for your comfort and convenience, we have childcare (Nursery and Toddler) available during the Sunday School hour and during the worship service, and a cry room for families with nursing infants and/or active babies located in the right rear of the sanctuary. Children seven years of age and younger are invited to take part in Children s Church, for which they will be dismissed immediately after the Children s Message. 2

3 MORNING WORSHIP Preparation for Worship: Meditation and Prayer Prelude Ryan Kelly Musical Selection Welcome and Announcements Silent Meditation CALL TO WORSHIP* Psalm 146:1-5 Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD, O my soul! I will praise the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation. When his breath departs, he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish. Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God, PRAYER OF INVOCATION* HYMN OF PRAISE AND ADORATION* Hallelujah, Praise Jehovah Hymn No. 57 * Congregation stands. 4 Q 36: DECLARATION OF FAITH* Westminster Shorter Catechism, Questions What benefits in this life accompany or flow from justification, adoption and sanctification? A: The benefits in this life which accompany or flow from justification, adoption and sanctification are: assurance of God's love, peace of conscience, joy in the Holy Spirit, progress in holiness, and perseverance in it to this life's end. Q 37: What benefits do believers receive from Christ at death? A: The souls of believers are at their death made perfect in holiness and immediately pass into glory; and their bodies, being still united to Christ, rest in their graves until the resurrection. Q 38: What benefits do believers receive from Christ at the resurrection? A: At the resurrection Christ will immediately raise up in glory all believers; he will openly acknowledge and acquit them in the day of judgement, graciously rewarding them according to their works of faith, and they will enter into the full enjoyment of God for all eternity. CONFESSION OF SIN Galatians 3:10 For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, "Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them." ASSURANCE OF PARDON Galatians 3:13-14 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us--for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree"-- so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith. 4

It is our custom to hold the elements and commune together. *If you have not yet embraced Jesus Christ by faith, we invite you to reflect on one of the following prayers. Prayer for those searching for Truth: Lord Jesus, you claim you are the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Please guide me by your Holy Spirit and open my heart and mind to receive the life you promise. Give me grace to repent of my sin and trust in your perfect sacrifice on my behalf. Teach me what it means to faithfully follow you as Lord. Amen. Prayer of Faith: Lord Jesus Christ, I confess that I am sinful. I have sinned by thought, word, and deed. But through your sacrifice I am loved and accepted by my heavenly Father. Thank you for paying my debt on the cross and for taking the punishment I deserve. I turn from my sins and trust in you as my living Savior and Lord. Amen. 8 News Compassion Fund Collection Please note Our Compassion Fund Offering will take place at the same time as our General Offering this morning. The reason for the change is to allow time immediately following the Lord s Supper to respond to God s wonderful gift to us by singing our praise and thanks in song. Therefore, we will be combining the two offerings into one prior to the sermon. That means that every gift to the Compassion Fund must be put in an offering envelope and designated as such on the outside of the envelope. Any undesignated cash gift in the offering plate will be counted toward the General Offering. If you would like to contribute to both, please use two envelopes and mark each envelope according to the type of gift you d like to make. Thank you for your flexibility as we make this change in the way we collect for the Compassion Fund. Thank you Reception for Dave Garner Sunday, September 13, 10:30am After the Ministry Fair, all are welcome to come to the Main Lobby next Sunday when we officially thank Dave Garner for his ministry to us as Pastor of Teaching. New Adult Sunday School Electives Prayers in Paul s Writings The secondary resource for this class will be D.A. Carson s book A Call to Spiritual Reformation which was written to help us (1) reform our personal and corporate prayer lives and (2) listen afresh to Scripture in order to better understand how to apply God s instruction regarding prayer to our lives, homes and church. The class will be taught by various elders and staff and will meet in the Beechwood Chapel (Room 250). If you want to purchase a copy of Carson s book, please sign up on the clipboard in the narthex. Proclamation 101 Class If you are new to the church and are considering joining Proclamation, or if you have been here for years but would like a refresher on what we believe and how that plays itself out in our daily lives, join us for this new 11-week class beginning September 27 at 9:30am. Ben Falconer will be the primary teacher, but many other staff and elders will be involved. The list of topics can be viewed on the narthex table. * If you d like to attend, please sign the list on the narthex table or contact Annette in the church office (annette@proclamation.org). Please let us know by September 20 so that we can have materials for you for the first day of class. Sunday School Open House and Ministry Fair September 13 On Sunday, September 13, tables in the slate hallway will hold information about the various ministries and opportunities for service at Proclamation. Representatives from the ministries will be there to answer questions. Parents Starting at 9:30 am, you re invited to visit your child s Sunday School classroom to hear about the upcoming year.
