We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father; by whom all things 2 * Congregation stands.
3 were made; who for us and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; he suffered and was buried; and the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father; and he shall come again, with glory, to judge both the living and the dead; Whose kingdom shall have no end. And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets; and we believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church; and we acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and we look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. We will talk a bit about our upcoming meetings, including some new additions, and get a start on our scripture theme. Join us as we gather in the lower level next to the kitchen. Please sign up in the narthex for this particular event. Women s Bible Studies begin September 19 Opportunities for WOMEN to grow through rich study of God s Word together. Registration begins today in the narthex. This year we will be studying two books The Promised One Seeing Jesus in Genesis by Nancy Guthrie and The Covenantal Life: Appreciating the Beauty of Theology and Community by Sarah Ivill. PCA Women s Regional Conference Sept in Annapolis Proclamation s Women s Servant Leadership Team is excited to invite all women to join us at Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Annapolis on Sept The conference will feature keynote speaker Courtney Doctor, worship, workshops and other opportunities to connect. Conference and registration information can be found on the narthex table. Hotel accommodations and carpools are being organized for those attending the conference. Contact Annette Hunsaker (annette@proclamation.org) with any questions. College Van Ministry If you are looking for a way to serve at Proclamation but are unable to make a major time commitment you may want to consider the College Van Ministry. We are looking for several people who would be willing to drive the church van to pick up students at a nearby college for worship at Proclamation on Sunday mornings and then drive them back to campus immediately after the service. Your commitment would be no more than once per month during the academic year. If you would like to serve our college students in this way, or would like more information about this opportunity, please contact Dan Correnti at (610) or at correnti24@msn.com. 8
9 CityTeam Food items needed Would you add one or more of the following items to your grocery list this week for CityTeam? There is a need this month for: pork & beans, baby food & cereal, pasta & pasta sauce, canned tuna, canned or bag beans (all types), jelly, canned fruit, rice (small box or bag). Bring the item(s) to our Donations Room. Thank you! Note: There s a handy grocery list on the narthex table to keep on hand Missions Conference October Please mark your calendars for Proclamation s annual missions conference, October On Friday night, small groups will each host a missionary we support; anyone is welcome to join the small group that evening. Proclamation Instrumental Ensemble This morning, we welcome our Proclamation Instrumental Ensemble (PIE) as they lead our singing in worship. PIE typically plays in worship once a month, and gathers for a brief rehearsal prior to worship in the morning. If you play an orchestral instrument, are in high school or older, and would be interested in playing in the ensemble in the future, please contact Music Director, Ryan Kelly (ryan@proclamation.org). Pray for... Our Church Family Miriam Kisia, Wanda Kleeman, Elayne Ko, Frank & Barbara Kolb, Korty Family, Betsy Kotanchik, Jerry & Beth Kunze Those Serving in the Military Andrew Fijan Savannah, GA Darin Garner and John P. Galib USAF San Antonio, Texas, Elizabeth Josephson Fort Bragg, NC, Rob Martin VA, Peter Mitchell Oklahoma, Robert Samuelsen II, Ft.Detrick, MD, Tim Wik Pittsburgh Shelby and Rachael Abbott/Cru We debriefed and closed the summer mission with the students in early August and we wanted to share a few responses to what their highlights were for the summer. Here are some for you to enjoy and praise God for: Emily worked at the local water park. She befriended a Thai girl who barely spoke English. They had their break together regularly and Emily was able to eventually share the gospel with her via a God Tools app translation in Thai and used Google Translate to help them communicate. James befriended a manager who decided to keep her baby (rather than get an abortion) last summer after a conversation with one of our Cru students last year. Over the course of their friendship this summer, James shared the gospel with her and she accepted Christ. Prayer & Praise: For the 34 students as they spend time at home and transition back to campus. This is often a time of spiritual attack for our group as they leave the high of a 10-week missions trip. Please pray that they walk closely with the Lord, connect with their community, and apply what they ve learned at home and back on campus. 9
10 Christian Education. Here are the Adult Sunday School offerings for the Fall. Classes begin on September 16. Book of Ephesians In Ephesians, Paul uncovers and joins together two great mysteries of God's plan of salvation: Christ and the Church. Like a bride, the Church is to further realize and respond to the full dimensions of her Savior's love and care for her. 'How has Christ loved you?' Join us and let us count the ways. Teachers: Rob Haviland, Blake Denlinger, Zeek Dean, Dean Chia, Rm. 240 College Class How People Change This course pursues the change every Christian knows they need and says they want but has too often tried and failed to attain. Why am I still the same as I was? This course will equip and encourage you to understand what it means to be continually transformed by the grace of Christ and to live more Christlike lives in our relationships, work/schooling, and daily life, and in the face of whatever circumstances, trials, and/or blessings we face. Don t expect the 7 habits of a highly effective Christian, a 12-step program, or proof-texts on how to change. Be forewarned: this course is real, practical, and personal as we examine our own hearts in the light of Scripture. You will leave changed of course, not by the class, the book (How People Change by Timothy Lane and Paul Tripp), or any inspirational quotes instead, that change will be by Christ whose power has given us everything we need for life and godliness (II Peter 1:3). Teachers: Jon Christman, Rob Haviland, Room 017 (Lower Level) Marriage and Family Life Have you been married forty years? Four years? Do you desire to be married someday? Everyone s marriage can grow and needs to grow. You may be struggling in your marriage. All of us do at times. Put two sinners together and see what happens! We struggle with the challenge of raising our children in this world as well. Family is God s blessing to us and we grow in family life just as we grow in our spiritual lives. Please join us. Grandparents are welcome too! Teachers: Ken Wendland and various others will be leading class topics. Room 243/245 Proclamation 101 Class If you are new to the church and are considering joining Proclamation, or if you have been here for years and would like a refresher on what we believe and how that plays itself out in our daily lives, join us for this new 11-week class beginning September 16 at 9:30 a.m. Ben Falconer will be the primary teacher, but other staff and elders will be involved. Please sign up in the narthex or contact Annette (annette@proclamation.org) in the church office by September 14 so that we can have materials for you on the first day of class. Room
11 Visiting with Us Today? We are always happy to have you with us and to enjoy your fellowship. If you have questions, please feel free to speak with one of our pastors or one of our elders. To help us learn how we might serve you, please fill out the Visitor Card in the pew back and drop it in the offering basket or leave it at the Welcome Desk. Families with Young Children Children are a gift to the Church and are warmly welcome at Proclamation. Before worship on Sundays, children of all ages are invited to attend graded Sunday School classes from 9:30-10:30 a.m. They may also recite their suggested memory verses, catechism questions, and hymns at 9:20 before classes begin. Classroom assignments are posted in the Education Wing. Nursery is available during the Sunday School hour for infants and toddlers. We welcome even the littlest ones in our worship services. We know children s needs vary by family and age, so we offer nursery during morning worship for children up to 2 years old. We have a nursing/cry room at the rear of the sanctuary for parents who need to attend to active infants, and we have screens showing the service in the slate hallway. While we encourage children to attend all of worship, we also offer the opportunity for children ages 4-7 years old to be dismissed mid-service for a children s worship time led by our Christian Education Director, Dave Moneymaker. Seating in the Sanctuary In an effort to be as hospitable as possible, we are encouraging people to move forward in the pews, since there are rows in the front of the sanctuary that don t typically get used. We would also specifically ask that regular attenders would leave the last pew open, so that visitors and those with special needs have access to seating near the doors. Thank you for your help in making Proclamation a warm place to visit. Pink Prayer Request Forms Proclamation's staff and elders are happy to lift your concerns and praises to the Lord in their prayers. Please note that the pink prayer request forms have been moved from the pew backs to the narthex table. You can place your completed form in the box on the table, place it in the offering plate or hand it to one of our deacons. You are also welcome to contact Pam in the church office by phone or and she will convey your message to the staff and elders. Recordings Audio CD or DVD recordings of today s sermon and adult Sunday School classes are available for a small donation ($3/$5). You may order at the media table located in the Resource Room (across from the Parlor) immediately following the 11 am service, and pick up two weeks later (usually). If you desire a recording from a prior week, use the order forms that are available on the table. Today s sermon message will be available for playback online starting tomorrow at the church website You can find the sermon under Sermons on the homepage. For more recordings, click on Sermons & Talks under the Media heading in the main menu. Job Listings See the bulletin board on the 1st floor of the Education Building (across from Rm. 144) for job postings from the PCA s Mission to North America Second Careers and Narberth Presbyterian Church. 11
