2 From the Deacon s Desk Dear Friends: Our first reading today is from the book of Job 7:1-4, 6-7. I think everyone knows the story of Job. He was a good and holy man and quite prosperous. Satan accuses him of being self-righteous because Job has been given everything by God. Satan convinces God to take everything away from Job hoping God will see that what the devil says is true. We know that Satan is not being truthful; Job was anything but self-righteous. During ancient mes, if something happened to you as happened to Job, your friends and rela ves automa cally assumed you had sinned. The hard mes you experienced were punishment from God for your sinfulness. Today, we hear Job saying that he has done nothing to deserve what happened to him. Job believes that this is just a part of life. Job is trying his best so that God will know he is innocent and has done nothing to deserve his plight. The Gospel from Mark 1:29-39 provides a response to Job s pain. Jesus heals Simon s mother-in-law and then goes on to drive out demons and cure the sick throughout all of Galilee. My dear friends, life is difficult. Some mes we have to deal with sickness, loss of financial security, rela onship problems and so on. The message of the readings today is that God will never desert us. He is with us in the good mes and the bad mes. There is always reason for hope, for God is the source of hope, and we shall never hope in vain. Peace and All Good! Deacon Jim CHRIST LIFE: Following Christ abide in me. 6 Youth Group Events SFDS Youth Events are open to students in 6 th through 12 th grade. SFDS offers Archdiocesan, Harford Area, and parish events. Events are spiritual, service and social. For more informa on contact: Diane Lewis at dilew@hotmail.com or X115. During the four-day trip to Indianapolis I was enlightened. I felt closer to Chris anity, God, Jesus, and the Church. The workshops that I a ended with my group were fun, and insigh ul. I ve learned not to use others and when to know when I am. I also learned how to fill the holes in my heart and to call on God when I am most hurt and down. That every hole can be mended that I must put trust in Him, that He will guide me to fill the holes within. I throughout the event I had a struggle within myself, but I s ll tried to take in everything I could. I listened to his teachings and everything that was said to me. I began realizing my faults there that was not known to me, it hurt to know the unknown sins that I have commi ed. The fun at NCYC was great but it wasn t the highlight. The Key Notes, however, were great and they helped me reflect to find my own faults and how to understand that other people have their own challenges through their lives as well and I am not alone. What I took from this massive event is that we can all learn from one another and I can apply what I learn to my life. And that God loves all, even the greatest of all sinners, he loves. ~Tomas Clarkson November 16, 2017, our high school youth group traveled to Indianapolis for the Na- onal Catholic Youth Conference. Thousands of people from all over the country came together to celebrate God. This experience changed me as a person. To see so many people together, believing in the same thing as I do, was absolutely remarkable. I was able to enjoy the company of friends, and through our love of God, we were able to have the best me of our lives. NCYC gave me so much confidence in my faith, and also myself. I am proud to share my faith with others, and for that I will always be grateful for NCYC. I will never forget this trip. ~Keilob Berchini My favorite part about the NCYC trip was that we were able to unite with different people around the country, share the same beliefs, and worship all together. It was such an amazing, energe c environment that allowed me to get out of my shell, and have fun while praising God. Also, it was amazing to hear the stories that the speakers told and the messages they were portraying to us. Their inspiring stories and thoughts allowed me to reflect on myself and my life and think about my purpose here, and what god wants from me. Overall, the NCYC trip was a very eye-opening, powerful, and fun experience that I ve learned so much from. ~Emma Clarkson February 9/10 th HS/MS Retreat (Spiritual/Social) Middle School youth are invited for a taste of NCYC! These are real laws that are being voted on in our legislative sessions We're urging the U.S. Senate to bring the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act up for a vote in the Senate. We're hearing that this important vote will come up soon, but we need your voice to make sure it does. James R, the science is clear -- by at least five months, unborn babies can feel excruciating pain during an abortion. Right now, the United States is 1 of only 7 countries in the world that allows elective abortions after 20 weeks. The Pain-Capable bill would protect thousands of babies and their mothers from these brutal late term abortions. The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. This bill would protect born alive infants after a failed abortion. You do not need to look further than Kermit Gosnell s "house of horrors", where authorities found evidence of intentional killing of babies that had survived his abortion procedures, to know we need this law now. Don t you think it s sad that we have to have a law to change the way we treat ny babies in the womb? 2017 Tax Dona on Le ers are now available. To request your tax dona on le er: 1.
