Psalm 89:1 Prelude What a Friend We Have in Jesus arr. Fedak/Hobby Linda Buller, organ *Call to Worship (based on Ephesians 2) Lois Harder Leader: We gather to remember that Christ is our foundation! People: And in Christ the whole building is joined together to become a dwelling place in which God lives by the Spirit. Leader: As we come to Christ, the living Stone rejected by builders but chosen by God we also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood. People: We are no longer foreigners and aliens, but citizens with God s people and members of God s household, Leader: built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, All: with Christ Jesus as the chief cornerstone. *Hymn Living Stones insert Psalm 89:1-8 I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, forever; with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations. I declare that your steadfast love is established forever; Your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens. You said, I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to my servant David: I will establish your descendants forever and build your throne for all generations. Let the heavens praise your wonders, O Lord, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones.

For who, in the skies can be compared to the Lord? Who among the heavenly beings is like the Lord, a God feared in the council of the holy ones, great and awesome above all that are around him? O Lord, God of hosts, who is as mighty as you, O Lord? Your faithfulness surrounds you. 3 We light the peace lamp as a reminder that peace is God s will for all of creation, that Christ is the Prince of Peace, and that the Holy Spirit empowers us to proclaim boldly the gospel of peace. We welcome you to this service of worship! Please write your name on the welcome pad at the end of your pew, and then return it to learn who is sitting near you. Please include your address if you are a visitor or new attender. A nursery for children up to 5 years of age is available in Room 204. Greeters this morning are Ellen and Willard Ebersole. Nursery workers during worship are Rachel Reimer-Kouame and Leilani Salas. Fellowship workers are Chuck and Rose Moyer. Following the worship service, you all are invited to the Fellowship Hall for coffee and casual conversation, until the bell rings for Sunday School. (The list of classes is on the next-to-the-last page.) Among our friends and beyond This is sadly overdue but no less sincere. The LAMC family was/is such a blessing for Anne and me. With the loss of Anne, I have found much comfort here at LAMC. I cannot imagine how hard it would be for someone who has no church family or belief in an afterlife to bear such a burden. I would like to share a note left at a table after the service at Chapel Hill United Methodist. And I quote, "Now LAMC has to find a new lightbulb, our brightest one burnt out!" (I know LAMC has never had a shortage of bright lightbulbs). Perhaps the author of this quote was referring to how over the years flowers from her garden and from nature did adorn our sanctuary, in which she took so much joy and pride. Anne was so greatly loved by our family, community, and church. I know of no one more blessed than I am with a wonderful family, community, and church. The most common advice I get is to take my loss of Anne one day at a time. That is so hard for me, I can only think about how do I spend the rest of my life without the love of my life. I do have faith that God will be my Savior and Redeemer and see me through this ordeal. Please know I cherish your love, support, and prayers. Thank you and God bless you all! As Ever with Love and Care, Kerm Daum Our love and sympathy are extended to Kim Whitcher (and first cousins, Karl Swartz and Carrie Dicke) at the death of his brother, Sid. Sid died of a heart attack on Monday, July 16. His memorial service was at Hesston Mennonite Church on Friday at 5:00 p.m.

I m feeling better, resting and recuperating at home, writes Marie Krehbiel after knee replacement surgery. The youth group is asking for donations for school kits to take with them to MCC for their activity on August 4th. Please drop off donations to church by the evening of August 3rd. Items needed for school kits include the following items (NEW items only): 4 spiral or perforated-pages notebooks (8.5 in x 10.5 in and 70 sheets) 8 new unsharpened pencils 1 ruler (flat, good quality; must indicate 30 cm; inch markings optional) 12 colored pencils (in packaging) 1 large eraser 2 new black or blue ballpoint pens 1 small metal pencil sharpener (one or two holes) There is also a shopping list on the table outside the office. It s Christmas in July! There are some gifts that have been left in the middle school classroom for months. Please take them home if they are yours. They will be donated if the items have not been removed by the end of July. To increase office coverage at LAMC during the upcoming transitional period, the Staff Relations Committee is taking applications for an Administrative Assistant/Bookkeeper, 30 hours a week. Applicants must have skills in: all forms of communication, Microsoft Office, web maintenance, and general accounting. If you are interested in this position or know someone who might be, please contact Melanie Mitchell. Curious About Hosting a Hesston College International Student? Get Answers Here. The office of International Student Support invites you to an informational reception at 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 29 in the community center of Hesston Mennonite Church. If you ve ever considered hosting a Hesston College international student, here's a chance to learn more and hear from those who have first-hand experience. The occasional challenges of hosting are greatly outweighed by the many rewards. Often the student-host relationship continues beyond graduation. Current international student host families will be on hand to share their experiences with each other and with prospective individuals/families. All previous, current and prospective host family members are encouraged to attend. For more information and to RSVP, contact Carlota Ponds, Director of International Student Support at or carlota.ponds@hesston.edu.

Prayer Request from the Western District Conference: Pray for the fellowship, wisdom and joy of the Spirit to be with all who gather for WDC s annual assembly next weekend. Prayer Request from Mennonite Mission Network: This month, Jane and Jerrell Ross Richer and their four children leave Ecuador to begin the North American portion of their two-way mission through Mennonite Mission Network. Pray for them as they transition between cultures and bring God s call to faithfulness to churches in the United States. Prayer Request for Faith and Learning: Pray for the young people who will be attending camps and conferences at Goshen College this month, including Know Jesus Conference, Write on Sports camp and basketball camps. Prayers for Peacemakers: Pray for the Kurdish villages that are under heavy bombings from the Turkish armed forces. Pray for the families that have lost their loved ones and those who have been displaced from their lands. Pray for an end to support of Turkish aggression against the Kurdish people in the region as well as western ambivalence. And especially keep the family of Dunya Rasheed in your prayers as they mourn her lost life. On 30 June, nineteen-year-old Dunya Rasheed, a high school student from Halenia, Iraqi Kurdistan was killed as she harvested nuts with a group of family and villagers. The village lands of Halenia are in close proximity to a Turkish base that has been constructed within Iraqi Kurdistan. Turkish soldiers shot a rocket directly into a group of thirty villagers, mainly children, while they were harvesting. This rocket struck Dunya Rasheed, piercing her basket full of nuts before passing through her body and immediately ending her life. Unfortunately, these bombings are now happening daily along the border with Turkey. Last year CPT counted fifty bombings in a fourmonth period. This month there were over fifty in just two weeks. Turkish soldiers have crossed far into Iraqi Kurdistan and are building bases as far as thirty km over the border claiming to be trying to rid the area of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK). The conflict between the Turkish government and the PKK has spanned over thirty years without solution. "Over this time, the villagers are who have suffered the most. We need a political solution," said the mayor of Dunya Rasheed's

village's sub-district. This heavy increase in violence has been causing mass displacement of villages and loss of life. Please call your government representatives and urge them to withdraw support for the violent Turkish military invasion taking place within Iraqi Kurdistan and instead support a political solution to this long conflict. Also, please demand that your government completely ends its support for weapons profiteering in the Middle East. Prayer Request from Sabeel: The Great March of Return protests continue for the fourth month as Palestinians call for the right of return. On Friday the 13th of July, Israeli soldiers shot and killed Othman Halas, a Palestinian teenager, who had been taking part in the border protests. Lord, we pray for the family of Othman as they grieve for their loss. We continue to pray for the safety of the protestors and for them to continue to espouse non-violent means to achieve their demands. Lord in your mercy Last week Israel launched the most intense wave of airstrikes on Gaza since the 2014 war, while militants in the enclave fired volleys of rockets at towns adjacent to the border. Now a ceasefire has been agreed upon between Israel and the different Palestinian factions. Lord, we mourn the recent violence in Gaza and the retaliatory rockets fired across the border into Israel. We pray for all families affected by the violence. We pray that the ceasefire will be respected by all parties to avoid more suffering.
