3 God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying out, Abba, Father! Galatians 4:6 We are taught to call him Father. Perhaps we take that name for granted, as though we somehow deserve it, not realizing that our God could have chosen some other name by which we are to come into his presence... Boss, perhaps... or Ruler... Master... Tyrant... Potentate... Supreme Being... but instead the name he taught us is... Father. What tender meaning there; what confidence and hope that name is meant to inspire. And what responsibility for all who bear the name of Father here on earth, and thus are called (at home and church) to show by word and deed and attitude what God is like. God s love has many aspects. In particular, God loves us as our Father... God s love for us as our Father is a strong and faithful love, a love that is full of mercy... It is the reality of God s love for us as our Father that explains why Jesus told us when we pray to address God as Abba, Father. St. John Paul II God is a real Dad to us. We have to listen to the Holy Spirit who is inside us! What does he tell us? That God is love. God is good. He is a father who loves us like a real dad, and he always forgives us. Pope Francis For our fathers who have given us life and love, that we may show them respect and love. For fathers who have lost a child through death, that their faith may give them hope, and their family and friends support and console them. For fathers who are ill, that they may restored to health. For fathers who have died, God, bring them into the joy of your kingdom. God our Father, in your wisdom and love you made all things. Bless our fathers. Strengthen them with the power of your Spirit. Let their example of faith and love shine forth. Grant that we, their sons and daughters, may honor them always with true respect and love. We ask this in the name of Jesus. A Blessing Prayer for Fathers Blessed are you, Lord and Father of all life, you have given us the gift of the father of our family. Today we honor him. His love for us has been a sign of your divine affection and a sharing of your love. Bless him this day with your strength and grace that he may continue to be a sign of your presence and a priestly parent to our family. May we who are a part of this family assist him by our respect, obedience and care. Bless him, Lord, with happiness and health, peace and prosperity, so that we may, with him, live in harmony with all. Receive into your eternal kingdom all our fathers who have gone to their rest. Grant them life forever, as they gave us life here on this earth. We ask this prayer in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen. Happy Father s Day

4 CORPUS CHRISTI S Pe rm an e n t Me m o rial The header plate of Corpus Christi s Permanent Memorial acknowledges all contributors and all who prayerfully support the building up of the Body of Christ here at Corpus Christi. Corpus Christi's Permanent Memorial was established in accordance with the commitment made in Corpus Christi's 1991 Capital Campaign to recognize specific levels of contributions to the Corpus Christi Building Fund. In addition to the header plate which provides a general acknowledgment of all contributors to the Building Fund and all who prayerfully support the building up of the Body of Christ at Corpus Christi, the specific levels designated in the capital campaign for the permanent memorial are: Donors ($5,000) + Builders ($10,000) + Sponsors ($25,000) Patrons ($50,000) + Benefactors ($100,000) + Providers ($250,000) Because the tithes of Corpus Christi parishioners provide the major support for Corpus Christi's development, contributions over $1200 in regular tithes each calendar year are recognized as indirect contributions to the Building Fund in addition to any other contributions made directly to the Building Fund until the debt is retired for Corpus Christi's completed Master Plan. Contributors may move from one level to the next with subsequent, cumulative contributions. This Memorial is on-going until the debt is retired for Corpus Christi's completed Master Plan. Cumulative contributions to the Corpus Christi Building Fund will continue to be recognized, and the Memorial may be expanded as needed, so that new contributors may be added and current contributors may move from one level of recognition to the next. Those whose contributions reach any of the above levels of recognition will receive a form for the preparation of their plate on the Memorial, and special acknowledgment will also be provided for contributions that exceed the levels listed above.

6 Consider that no one whether friend or brother, father or mother, lover or spouse loves you more than your God. St. Alphonsus Liguori God loves his people more than a bridegroom his beloved. His love will be victorious over even the worst infidelities and will extend to his most precious gift: God so loved the world that he gave his only Son. Catechism of the Catholic Church Each and every one of us is an object of God s undying love. We know that God s eyes are always upon us, even when things seem very bleak. God is, indeed, our Father. Even more, God is our Mother not wanting to hurt us, but only to do good for us, all of us. Pope John Paul I God loves each of us as if there were only one of us to love. Love could not be better commended to you than by the fact that it is called GOD. St. Augustine God is love. On this solid rock the entire faith of the Church is based. Rediscover the joy of the faith, the joy of being personally loved by God, who gave his son Jesus for our salvation. To believe consists above all in entrusting oneself to the God who knows us and personally loves us. Despite our weaknesses and our sins, God loves us. God s closeness is not one of judgment that incites terror, but one of support and liberation. God is always with us. Even in the darkest nights of our lives, he does not abandon us. Even at the most difficult times of our lives, he is present. Therefore, we can trust that we are never alone. The goodness of God never abandons us. Like a small child still totally dependent on his mother, but old enough to recognize his need, we must acknowledge their dependence on God. The image of the mother and child is a sign of the tender and maternal love of God. Pope Benedict XVI

7 True Faith Faith is not the simple intellectual approval by man of truths concerning God. It is an act in which I freely entrust myself to a God who is Father and who loves me. Having faith is above all about having a relationship with a God whose love is indestructible and who understands people s problems. Christian faith entails giving up control and placing one s life in God s hands. It s this liberating and reassuring certainty of faith that helps people live without fear, proclaiming and living out the Gospel message with courage. Faith shows that humanity won t find its full realization unless the human person is animated by the love that comes from God. The gift of faith then finds expression in relationships full of love, compassion, care and selfless service toward others. Pope Benedict XVI May Christ dwell in your hearts through faith, and may love be the root and foundation of your life. Thus you will know the love of Christ that surpasses all knowledge so that you may be filled with the fullness of God. St. Paul: Ephesians 3:17-19 God wants your friendship! Not only does God love us with a depth and an intensity that we can scarcely begin to comprehend, but he invites us to respond to that love. You all know what it is like when you meet someone interesting and attractive, and you want to be that person s friend. You always hope they will find you interesting and attractive, and want to be your friend. God wants your friendship. And once you enter into friendship with God, everything in your life begins to change. As you come to know him better, you will find you want to reflect something of his infinite goodness in your own life. You become attracted to the practice of virtue. You begin to see greed and selfishness and all the other sins for what they really are, destructive and dangerous tendencies that cause deep suffering and do greater damage, and you want to avoid falling into that trap yourselves. You begin to feel compassion for people in difficulties and you are eager to do something to help them. You want to come to the aid of the poor and the hungry, you want to comfort the sorrowful, you want to be kind and generous. And once these things begin to matter to you, you are well on the way to becoming saints. Pope Benedict XVI It is better to be a searching agnostic than a fake believer. Agnostics are closer to the Kingdom of God than routine believers who only see the apparatus of the Church without their hearts being touched by faith. Pope Benedict XVI
