It balances Catholic learning with Catholic Christian living. Please call Jennie for more information. PARISH WEBSITE THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION: Confessions are heard on Saturday afternoon from 4:30 to 5:15 pm and anytime with Fr. Joe upon reasonable request. THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM: Second & fourth Sundays at 1:30 pm. Expectant parents may contact the parish office to arrange for the baptism preparation session held on the third Thursday of every month. The class is held in the Parish Center Education Building, Room 7 at 7:30 pm. Adults are baptized and confirmed at the Easter Vigil after completing the process of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). RCIA - Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults: A process for those who wish to learn more about the Catholic Faith, or for Catholic adults, who after being baptized as infants, wish now to receive the sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation. For more information, please call our Parish Office. THE SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY: It is an honor for our parish to celebrate marriage with couples. Please contact the parish immediately after engagement to begin the preparation process. The recommended time for preparation is six months. PASTORAL CARE OF THE SICK: If you are planning to enter the hospital for surgery, experiencing a prolonged or serious illness, or homebound, please call, or have a loved one call the parish office to arrange for the sacraments of the sick. Amos replied that he had not been a prophet but was a shepherd until he was called by God. Second Reading: Ephesians 1:3-14 or 1:3-10 Paul exults God s immeasurable generosity as he recounts all the blessings that have been bestowed upon all God s people. We all became adopted children of God when we heard the message of truth Christ brought to us, and because of it, believed in him. Gospel: Mark 6:7-13 Jesus gave the twelve disciples authority over unclean spirits and sent them out to preach and heal the sick. He advised them to bring nothing with them and to shake the dust from their feet of any town where they had not been welcomed. 3 The Church s Mission Scott Hahn Reflects on The Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time In commissioning the apostles in today s Gospel, Jesus gives them, and us, a preview of His Church s mission after the Resurrection. His instructions to the Twelve echo those of God to the twelve tribes of Israel on the eve of their exodus from Egypt. The Israelites likewise were sent out with no bread and only one set of clothes, wearing sandals and carrying a staff (see Exodus 12:11; Deuteronomy 8:2 4). Like the Israelites, the apostles are to rely solely on the providence of God and His grace. Perhaps, also, Mark wants us to see the apostles mission, the mission of the Church, as that of leading a new exodus delivering peoples from their exile from God and bringing them to the promised land, the kingdom of heaven. Like Amos in today s First Reading, the apostles are not professionals, who earn their bread by prophesying. Like Amos, they are simply men (see Acts 14:15) summoned from their ordinary jobs and sent by God to be shepherds of their brothers and sisters. Again this week, we hear the theme of rejection: Amos experiences it, and Jesus warns the apostles that some will not welcome or listen to them. The Church is called, not necessarily to be successful, but only to be faithful to God s command. With authority and power given to it by Jesus, the Church proclaims God s peace and salvation to those who believe in Him, as we sing in today s Psalm. This word of truth, this gospel of salvation, is addressed to each of us, personally, as Paul proclaims in today s Epistle. In the mystery of God s will, we have been chosen from before the foundation of the world to be His sons and daughters, to live for the praise of His glory. Let us, then, give thanks for the Church today, and for the spiritual blessings He has bestowed upon us. Let us resolve to further the Church s mission to help others hear the call to repentance and welcome Christ into their lives. Knight of Columbus Serve our Parish and Community The Knights of Columbus of St. Patrick's Parish is looking for a few good men. Our membership has grown significantly since our inception at the parish. If you are interested, it is an excellent opportunity to join with Father Tyrrell and many other like-minded men of the Parish. The Knights of Columbus is open to Catholic gentlemen over the age of 18. We meet on the third Tuesday of each month in the lower church hall of St. Patrick's at 8 PM. 4 St. Patrick s Religious Education Program Registration Now Open Town of Woodbury Friendly Visitor Program Our Family Based Religious Education Program Registration is now open for the school year. You can pick up a registration form at the back of the church or at the parish office. Sessions will be once a month on Wednesday, Thursday or Saturday, and will be filled on a first come-first paid basis. If you are new to the parish, please stop by the Religious Ed office to fill out a registration form. Unfortunately, some are isolated, separated from their families or are in need of a caring friend. Simple gestures can make the difference; they help your neighbor feel connected to the community. Individuals can remain in their homes for as long as possible. Our Friendly Visitor Program is committed to supporting our residents by helping them remain in their homes. We do this by matching local volunteers with the residents that need supports. Our first training will be held on August 2nd at 2:00pm and you must Pre-Register. St. Patrick s Religious Education Shamrocks Program St. Patrick s Church has a religious education program for children with special needs. Our Shamrocks Program is held on Sundays and Mondays and our classes will begin in September. There is a limited amount of spaces available. The Highland Mills Methodist Church is open Saturdays from 10am 11am for people to receive food packages. The pantry serves between Woodbury families every week.
