THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM: Second & fourth Sundays at 1:00 PM. Expectant parents may contact the parish office to arrange for the baptism seminar class on the third Thursday of every month. The class is held in the Religious Education Building, Room 7 at 7:30 PM. Adults are baptized and confirmed at the Easter Vigil after completing the stages of the Rite of Christian Initiation. RCIA Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults: A process for those who wish to enter the Catholic Faith, or for present Catholic individuals who after being baptized need to receive the sacraments of Holy Eucharist and Confirmation. THE SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY: Since Catholic marriage requires a time of preparation, arrangements should begin at least six months before the proposed date of the wedding to allow for the Marriage Preparation Program and Natural Family Planning (NFP). PASTORAL CARE OF THE SICK: If you are planning to enter the hospital for surgery, experiencing a prolonged or serious illness, or homebound, call the parish office to arrange for the sacraments of reconciliation, communion and anointing at home. Communal anointing of the sick is celebrated at Mass during the Advent and Lenten seasons. WELCOME TO NEW PARISHIONERS: The Saint Patrick faith community warmly welcomes you! MISSION STATEMENT Saint Patrick Parish is a Christian community of disciples in the Roman Catholic tradition, called by Jesus, united in Eucharistic worship and growing in faith, hope and love. Nourished through the sacraments and strengthened by God s transforming love, we are empowered to know the gospel message and to bear witness to others. As Christian stewards, we are thankful for God s many gifts and we commit ourselves to share our time, talent and treasure in Christ-like service within our parish community and beyond. (845) TWENTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME First Reading: Wisdom 9:13-18b This reading acknowledges that people have had a difficult time attempting to know God's wishes. At times we have difficulty understanding the things that happen on earth. Therefore, learning of things in heaven would have been impossible, except that God sent us wisdom and the Holy Spirit to help us understand him. Second Reading: Philemon 9-10, Paul writes to Philemon regarding Onesimus, a slave who ran away and encountered Paul. Although Paul wished Onesimus could remain with him, he did not want to violate Philemon's wishes. Paul asks that Philemon receives his friend Onesimus as a beloved brother, not as a slave. He closes by saying, "Welcome him as you would me." Gospel: Luke 14:25-33 Jesus warns people who wish to follow him that they must abandon everyone else first. A person calculates the amount of money needed to complete a project before they begin it. In the same way, Jesus warns these people to consider exactly what is involved before they make a commitment to follow him Bon Venture Services, Inc. 3 Mother Teresa's Nazareth Prayer for the Family Heavenly Father, you have given us the model of life in the Holy Family of Nazareth. Help us, O Loving Father, to make our family another Nazareth where love, peace and joy reign. May it be deeply contemplative, intensely eucharistic, revived with joy. Help us to stay together in joy and sorrow in family prayer. Teach us to see Jesus in the members of our families, especially in their distressing disguise. May the eucharistic heart of Jesus make our hearts humble like his and help us to carry out our family duties in a holy way. May we love one another as God loves each one of us, more and more each day, and forgive each other's faults as you forgive our sins. Help us, O Loving Father, to take whatever you give and give whatever you take with a big smile. Immaculate Heart of Mary, cause of our joy, pray for us. St. Joseph, pray for us. Altar Rosary Society holds meetings every first Saturday, after 9am Mass, following the Rosary. We are looking for new members to enlighten our ministry to the Blessed Virgin Mary. All who may be willing to serve, please contact Debbie Caldwell at ADULT BIBLE STUDY The Adult Bible Study will take a summer recess until September 8th. 4 St. Patrick s Religious Ed. Shamrocks Program St. Patrick s Religious Education has a fanastic program called Shamrocks. This program was designed for children with special needs who would like to develop and grow in Jesus faith and His love.
