It balances Catholic learning with Catholic Christian living. Please call Jennie for more information. PARISH WEBSITE THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION: Confessions are heard on Saturday afternoon from 4:30 to 5:15 pm and anytime with Fr. Joe upon reasonable request. THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM: Second & fourth Sundays at 1:30 pm. Expectant parents may contact the parish office to arrange for the baptism preparation session held on the third Thursday of every month. The class is held in the Parish Center Education Building, Room 7 at 7:30 pm. Adults are baptized and confirmed at the Easter Vigil after completing the process of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). RCIA - Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults: A process for those who wish to learn more about the Catholic Faith, or for Catholic adults, who after being baptized as infants, wish now to receive the sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation. For more information, please call our Parish Office. THE SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY: It is an honor for our parish to celebrate marriage with couples. Please contact the parish immediately after engagement to begin the preparation process. The recommended time for preparation is one year. PASTORAL CARE OF THE SICK: If you are planning to enter the hospital for surgery, experiencing a prolonged or serious illness, or homebound, please call, or have a loved one call the parish office to arrange for the sacraments of the sick. They ask God to remember, not their sins, but that We are all the work of your hands. Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 1:3-9 Paul explains to the Corinthians that they are specially favored by God who has sent his only Son to them. He reminds us all that it was through God s grace that we have been called to kinship with Christ. Gospel: Mark 13:33-37 Just as a servant watching over the master s house does not know when he will return, we do not know the hour of the Second Coming. 3 Watch for Him Scott Hahn Reflects on The First Sunday of Advent The new Church year begins with a plea for God s visitation. Oh that you would rend the heavens and come down, the prophet Isaiah cries in today s First Reading. Our Blessed Mother request that we pray the Rosary and that we pray it often. In today s Psalm, too, we hear the anguished voice of Israel, imploring God to look down from His heavenly throne to save and shepherd His people. Anyone interested in participating in an evening Rosary prayer group, please contact Debbie Caldwell at Today s readings are relatively brief. Their language and message are deceptively simple. But we should take note of the serious mood and penitential aspect of the Liturgy today as the people of Israel recognize their sinfulness, their failures to keep God s covenant, their inability to save themselves. And in this Advent season, we should see our own lives in the experience of Israel. As we examine our consciences, can t we, too, find that we often harden our hearts, refuse His rule, wander from His ways, withhold our love from Him? God is faithful, Paul reminds us in today s Epistle. He is our Father. He has hearkened to the cry of His children, coming down from heaven for Israel s sake and for ours to redeem us from our exile from God, to restore us to His love. Altar Rosary Adult Bible Study Our group is winding down its study for this year. We will be deciding which book of the Bible to study next spring. Three choices are proposed: Genesis, Matthew s Gospel and Paul s First Epistle to the Corinthians. Our remaining session, Dec. 14 will not involve discussion of Bible texts. Instead, we will watch together and discuss Franco Zeffirelli's extraordinary film JESUS OF NAZARETH. We may continue this into the spring also, before beginning the next Little Rock Study we will deciding on. We will take our usual winter recess from December until March. Since no books or preparation are required for the film sessions, all parishioners who might to see what our group is about are welcome to join us. We meet from 7:30-9:00pm in the Religious Education Building. NEWCOMERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME! AA Meetings In Jesus, we have seen the Father (see John 14:89). The Father has let His face shine upon us. He is the good shepherd (see John 10:11-15) come to guide us to the heavenly kingdom. No matter how far we have strayed, He will give us new life if we turn to Him, if we call upon His holy name, if we pledge anew never again to withdraw from Him. Mondays, 6:30pm 7:30pm: Closed Beginner s Meeting (open only to those who desire to stop drinking or thinks they may be an alcoholic) Wednesdays, 6:30pm 7:30pm: Open Speaker Meeting (Everyone is welcome.) Speaker will share their experience, strength and hope. Wednesdays, 7:45pm 8:45pm: Closed Big Book meeting (open only to those who desire to stop drinking or thinks they may be an alcoholic) Reading and discussion of the book Alcoholics Anonymous. As Paul says today, He has given us every spiritual gift especially the Eucharist and penance to strengthen us as we await Christ s final coming. He will keep us firm to the end if we let Him. Serve our Parish and Community So, in this season of repentance, we should heed the warning repeated three times by our Lord in today s Gospel to be watchful, for we know not the hour when the Lord of the house will return. Knight of Columbus The Knights of Columbus of St. Patrick's Parish is looking for a few good men. Our membership has grown significantly since our inception at the parish. If you are interested, it is an excellent opportunity to join with Father Joe Tyrrell and many other like-minded men of the Parish. The Knights of Columbus is open to male Catholic gentlemen over the age of 18. We meet on the third Tuesday of each month in the lower church hall of St. Patrick's at 8 PM. 4 St. Patrick s Church Thank You * Thank You * Thank You Angel Giving Tree 2017 The response to our Angel Giving Tree has been tremendous. It is wonderful to see so many families making this a part of their annual Advent tradition. Please remember that each tag represents an actual person in need. We are hoping to ensure that all wishes are granted. If you took a tag and misplaced it or are not able to fulfill that wish, please let us know. Place all gifts in gift bags and securely fasten the tag to the bag with the written side visible. All gifts are due back to St. Patrick s Church no later than Sunday Dec 10th. Would you (and a friend) be available one night per month to help provide shelter for someone in need? Last year we averaged nearly 5 people per night and were opened 136 nights! Highland Mills Food Pantry Attention All Youth of the Parish Youth Christmas Choir Sunday, December 24, pm Mass Each year, the youth of our parish participate in the Christmas Eve Mass through the offering of their beautiful gift of music. The time has come to begin preparations for Christmas. Singers will be needed. The choir is open to students in grades Rehearsals will be held on the following dates: Saturday, December 2, 9 & 16, :30am-9:30am in the Lower Church Hall Saturday, December 23, :30am-11:00am in St. Patrick s Church Although we have very talented musicians, this year s choir will include vocals only. Please place your non-perishable food items in the basket at the church entrance. The Highland Mills Methodist Church is open Saturdays from 10am 11am for people to receive food packages. The pantry serves between Woodbury families every week. For more information, call St. Anastasia Catholic Cemetery Christmas Wreath Placement St. Anastasia s Catholic Cemetery, in Harriman, NY, is once again offering, with the help of our volunteer parishioners, the placement of beautiful Christmas wreaths on the graves of your loved ones. This will take place during the week of December 11th and remain until January 6th. The cost for each wreath is $ For an additional $10.00, we are also placing a Palm Cross at Easter. Please call the office at to place your order. We will be preparing our cemetery, for the Advent season, during the week of November 25th 30th. All fall and Thanksgiving decorations will be removed and discarded. Please come and take personal items. No glass items permitted at any time.

5 Parish Counseling Network (PCN) St. Patrick s is pleased to introduce a confidential service available, at a minimal fee, to our parishioners. This program, the Parish Counseling Network (PCN), entitles parishioners to 6 sessions with a Professional Clinician who can help with a variety of individual and inter-personal issues.
