THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM: Second & fourth Sundays at 1:30 pm. Expectant parents may contact the parish office to arrange for the baptism seminar class on the third Thursday of every month. The class is held in the Religious Education Building, Room 7 at 7:30 pm. Adults are baptized and confirmed at the Easter Vigil after completing the stages of the Rite of Christian Initiation. RCIA - Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults: A process for those who wish to enter the Catholic Faith, or for present Catholic individuals who after being baptized need to receive the sacraments of Holy Eucharist and Confirmation. THE SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY: Since Catholic marriage requires a time of preparation, arrangements should begin at least six months before the proposed date of the wedding to allow for the Marriage Preparation Program and Natural Family Planning (NFP). PASTORAL CARE OF THE SICK: If you are planning to enter the hospital for surgery, experiencing a prolonged or serious illness, or homebound, call the parish office to arrange for the sacraments of reconciliation, communion and anointing at home. Gospel: Matthew 11:2-11 While in prison, John sends a messenger to Jesus to ask, Are you He who is to come or do we look for another? Jesus replies by citing the miracles he has performed for the blind, the deaf, and the crippled. 3 Here is Your God John questions Jesus from prison in today's Gospel for his disciples' sake and for ours. He knows that Jesus is doing "the works of the Messiah," foretold in today's First Reading and Psalm. But John wants his disciples and us to know that the Judge is at the gate, that in Jesus our God has come to save us. The Liturgy of Advent takes us out into the desert to see and hear the marvelous works and words of God the lame leaping like a stag, the dead raised, the good news preached to the poor (see Isaiah 29:18-20; 61:1-2). The Liturgy does this to give us courage, to strengthen our feeble hands and make firm our weak knees. Our hearts can easily become frightened and weighed down by the hardships we face. We can lose patience in our sufferings as we await the coming of the Lord. As James advises in today's Epistle, we should take as our example the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. Jesus also points us to a prophet holding up John as a model. John knew that life was more than food, the body more than clothing. He sought the kingdom of God first, confident that God would provide (see Matthew 6:25-34). John did not complain. He did not lose faith. Even in chains in his prison cell, he was still sending his disciples and us to our Savior. We come to Him again now in the Eucharist. Already He has caused the desert to bloom, the burning sands to become springs of living water. He has opened our ears to hear the words of the sacred book, freed our tongue to fill the air with songs of thanksgiving (see Isaiah 30:18). Once bowed down, captives to sin and death, we have been ransomed and returned to His Kingdom, crowned with everlasting joy. Raised up we now stand before His altar to meet the One who is to come: "Here is your God." Marie Kiely (845) Altar Rosary Society News Altar Rosary Society holds meetings every first Saturday, after 9am Mass, following the Rosary. We are looking for new members to enlighten our ministry to the Blessed Virgin Mary. All who may be willing to serve, please contact Debbie Caldwell at Adult Bible Study The Adult Bible Study meets regularly, every other Thursday. Our next session will be on Dec. 15th. This meeting will be purely social. All members, past and present, are invited to bring a favorite dessert to share. Coffee and tea will be provided. We will meet from 7:30 until 9:00pm in Rm. 8 of the Religious Education Building. This will be our last meeting. 4 Town of Woodbury Parks & Recreation Attention All Youth of the Parish Youth Christmas Choir Saturday, December 24, pm Mass Each year, the youth of our parish participate in the Christmas Eve Mass through the offering of their beautiful gift of music. The time has come to begin preparations for Christmas. Singers will be needed. The choir is open to students in grades Rehearsals will be held on the following dates: Sunday, December 18, :00pm-6:30pm in St. Patrick s Church Although we have very talented musicians, this year s choir will include vocals only. It will be directed by Pat Murray and accompanied by Judy Manza. Our rehearsal director (and contact person) is Leigh Ann Incledon. All gifts are due back on Sunday Dec. 11. Gifts may be dropped off in the church under the Angel Giving Trees before or after each Mass this weekend and until 5pm on Sunday Dec 11th. Please do not leave gifts in the Religious Ed. or Parish Office. Remember that each tag represents an actual person in need. We are hoping to ensure that all wishes are granted. If you took a tag and misplaced it or are not able to fulfill that wish, please let us know. Volunteers are needed to sort gifts on Sunday Dec 11th from 2-5. The Highland Mills Methodist Church is open Saturdays from 10am 11am for people to receive food packages. The pantry serves between 3040 Woodbury families every week. For more information, call Annual Holiday Party St. Patrick s Parish Center-Weireter Hall Town of Woodbury will hold their annual holiday party on December 17th from 4-6 in the gym of St. Patrick s Parish. The festivities will include games, food, fun and a special visit from Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus. All are welcome. Mariapolis Luminosa Nativity Scenes Display 200 Cardinal Road Hyde Park, N.Y Each Christmas, throughout the month of December, Mariapolis Luminosa displays over 200 Nativity scenes from every continent in the world. Come by and take in all the beautiful scenes from around the world. Musical entertainment will be provided on the weekends of Dec & 18th at 1:30pm. $5 suggested donation. For more information, please call (845) ext. 127 or visit online at: Sacred Heart Warming Station Chapel of Sacred Heart 151 Stage Road Monroe, N.Y. Warming station is in urgent need of volunteers. During this Christmas season, let us all spread warmth and cheer to others who are in need. The Warming Station can use overnight volunteers from 9pm to 7am, for those who are homeless and in need of a warm place to stay. Volunteers provide a warm meal and refuge from the cold. There is a training session scheduled on Thursday, December 15th. Trainings are held at 7 PM at St. Paul s United Methodist Church, 58 W Main St., Middletown, NY (use the Mulberry St. entrance.) They have been in operation for the past 8 years and have been providing Sacred Heart with informational support. Additionally, Sacred Heart will provide training for the particular needs of our Warming Station. We are currently serving 6 people per night. Some nights we are closed as we have no volunteers. Children are enrolled in MW schools for 3 weeks now. Family is willing to stay in a two-bedroom apartment. And will be able to pay $1000 rent plus utilities.
