THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM: Second & fourth Sundays at 1:00 PM. Expectant parents may contact the parish office to arrange for the baptism seminar class on the third Thursday of every month. The class is held in the Religious Education Building, Room 7 at 7:30 PM. Adults are baptized and confirmed at the Easter Vigil after completing the stages of the Rite of Christian Initiation. RCIA Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults: A process for those who wish to enter the Catholic Faith, or for present Catholic individuals who after being baptized need to receive the sacraments of Holy Eucharist and Confirmation. THE SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY: Since Catholic marriage requires a time of preparation, arrangements should begin at least six months before the proposed date of the wedding to allow for the Marriage Preparation Program and Natural Family Planning (NFP). PASTORAL CARE OF THE SICK: If you are planning to enter the hospital for surgery, experiencing a prolonged or serious illness, or homebound, call the parish office to arrange for the sacraments of reconciliation, communion and anointing at home. Communal anointing of the sick is celebrated at Mass during the Advent and Lenten seasons. WELCOME TO NEW PARISHIONERS: The Saint Patrick faith community warmly welcomes you! MISSION STATEMENT Saint Patrick Parish is a Christian community of disciples in the Roman Catholic tradition, called by Jesus, united in Eucharistic worship and growing in faith, hope and love. Nourished through the sacraments and strengthened by God s transforming love, we are empowered to know the gospel message and to bear witness to others. As Christian stewards, we are thankful for God s many gifts and we commit ourselves to share our time, talent and treasure in Christ-like service within our parish community and beyond. God called on them to have courage, and then rewarded them by punishing their enemies and leading them from captivity. Second Reading: Hebrews 11:1-2, 8-19 Faith is described as true belief even toward things we cannot see. Abram's faith in God was so deep that he wandered through a foreign land, convinced God's promise of a homeland was sincere. God honored his promise to give Abram many descendants, and was proud of the deep faith Abram and his people possessed. Gospel: Luke 12:32-48 Jesus encourages us to be prepared for his return at all times, for he will come when we least expect him. He tells of a master who entrusts his home to his servants, and fully expects them to be awaiting his return. 3 St. Patrick s Religious Education News *Religious Education Registration for is open. We are born of the faith of our fathers, descending from a great cloud of witnesses whose faith is attested to on every page of Scripture (see Hebrews 12:1). We have been made His people, chosen for His own inheritance, as we sing in this Sunday s Psalm. WE ARE STILL IN NEED of teachers. If you would like to volunteer, please call Marie Kiely at the Religious Ed office. If you have a child that is new to the program, or for more information, please stop by the office or call (845) The Liturgy this week sings the praises of our fathers, recalling the defining moments in our "family history." In the Epistle, we remember the calling of Abraham; in the First Reading we relive the night of the Exodus and the summons of the holy children of Israel. Our fathers, we are told, trusted in the Word of God, put their faith in His oaths, convinced that what He promised, He would do. None of them lived to see His promises made good. For it was not until Christ and His Church that Abraham's descendants were made as countless as the stars and sands (see Galatians 3:16-17,29). It was not until His Last Supper and the Eucharist that "the sacrifice...the divine institution" of that first Passover was truly fulfilled. And we now too await the final fulfillment of what God has promised us in Christ. As Jesus tells us in this week s Gospel, we should live with our loins girded as the Israelites tightened their belts, cinched up their long robes and ate their Passover standing, vigilant and ready to do His will (see Exodus 12:11; 2 Kings 4:29). The Lord will come at an hour we do not expect will knock on our door (see Revelation 3:20), inviting us to the wedding feast in the better homeland, the heavenly one that our fathers saw from afar, and which we begin to taste in each Eucharist. As they did, we can wait with "sure knowledge," His Word like a lamp lighting our path (see Psalm 119:105). Our God is faithful and if we wait in faith, hope in His kindness, and love as we have been loved, we will receive His promised blessing, be delivered from death. Altar Rosary Society holds meetings every first Saturday, after 9am Mass, following the Rosary. We are looking for new members to enlighten our ministry to the Blessed Virgin Mary. 4 St. Patrick s Religious Ed. Shamrocks Program St. Patrick s Religious Education has a fanastic program called Shamrocks. This program was designed for children with special needs who would like to receive their sacraments. The Highland Mills Methodist Church is open Fridays from 11am 12 noon for people to receive food packages. The pantry serves between Woodbury families every week.
