It balances Catholic learning with Catholic Christian living. Please call Jennie for more information. PARISH WEBSITE THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION: Confessions are heard on Saturday afternoon from 4:30 to 5:15 pm and anytime with Fr. Joe upon reasonable request. THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM: Second & fourth Sundays at 1:30 pm. Expectant parents may contact the parish office to arrange for the baptism preparation session held on the third Thursday of every month. The class is held in the Parish Center Education Building, Room 7 at 7:30 pm. Adults are baptized and confirmed at the Easter Vigil after completing the process of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). RCIA - Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults: A process for those who wish to learn more about the Catholic Faith, or for Catholic adults, who after being baptized as infants, wish now to receive the sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation. For more information, please call our Parish Office. THE SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY: It is an honor for our parish to celebrate marriage with couples. Please contact the parish immediately after engagement to begin the preparation process. The recommended time for preparation is one year. PASTORAL CARE OF THE SICK: If you are planning to enter the hospital for surgery, experiencing a prolonged or serious illness, or homebound, please call, or have a loved one call the parish office to arrange for the sacraments of the sick. God also tells Moses that anyone who pretends to speak in his words, or speaks in the name of other gods shall die. Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 7:32-35 Paul tells the Corinthians how an unmarried man or woman is able to devote themselves fully to God without concern for the needs of a spouse. Paul explains that God wants to help them promote good and devote themselves more fully to God. Gospel: Mark 1:21-28 As Jesus was teaching, a man with an unclean spirit came to the synagogue and asked if Jesus had come to destroy them. Jesus ordered the spirit out of the man, who shrieked violently as the spirit departed. The people were amazed at the authority he had over the spirit Bon Venture Services, Inc. 3 The King s Authority Scott Hahn Reflects on The Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time Last week, Jesus announced the kingdom of God is at hand. This week, in mighty words and deeds, He exercises His dominion asserting royal authority over the ruler of this world, Satan (see John 12:31). Notice that today s events take place on the sabbath. The sabbath was to be an everlasting sign both of God s covenant love for His creation (see Exodus 20:8 11; 31:12 17), and His deliverance of his covenant people, Israel, from slavery (see Deuteronomy 6:12 15). On this sabbath, Jesus signals a new creation that the Holy One has come to purify His people and deliver the world from evil. With an unclean spirit is biblical language for a man possessed by a demon, Satan being the prince of demons (see Mark 3:22). Altar Rosary Our Blessed Mother request that we pray the Rosary and that we pray it often. We have decided that our next Little Rock Scripture Study topic will be Genesis and the study sets are being ordered. The plan is to begin this when we resume our sessions in the spring. We will meet from 7:30-9:00pm in the Religious Education Building. NEWCOMERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME! AA Meetings The demons question: What have you to do with us? is often used in Old Testament scenes of combat and judgment (see Judges 11:12; 1 Kings 17:18). And as God by His word rebuked the forces of chaos in creating the world (see Psalms 104:7; Job 26:10 12), and again rebuked the Red Sea so the Israelites could make their exodus (see Psalms 106:9), Mark uses the same word to describe Jesus rebuking the demons (see Mark 4:39; Zechariah 3:2). Jesus is the prophet foretold by Moses in today s First Reading (see Acts 3:22). Though He has authority over heaven and earth (see Daniel 7:14,27; Revelation 12:10), He becomes one of our own kinsmen. He comes to rebuke the forces of evil and chaos not only in the world, but in our lives. He wants to make us holy in body and spirit, as Paul says in today s Epistle (see Exodus 31:12). In this liturgy, we hear His voice and see His works, as we sing in today s Psalm. And as Moses tells us today, we should listen to Him. Knight of Columbus Serve our Parish and Community The Knights of Columbus of St. Patrick's Parish is looking for a few good men. Our membership has grown significantly since our inception at the parish. If you are interested, it is an excellent opportunity to join with Father Tyrrell and many other like-minded men of the Parish. The Knights of Columbus is open to Catholic gentlemen over the age of 18. We meet on the third Tuesday of each month in the lower church hall of St. Patrick's at 8 PM. The Highland Mills Methodist Church is open Saturdays from 10am 11am for people to receive food packages. The pantry serves between Woodbury families every week.
