Today s gospel begins with two disciples walking to Emmaus, overcome with sadness, loss and disappointment. They had hoped Jesus, who was crucified, would be the one to redeem Israel! Yet, the risen Jesus walks with them, and then opens their eyes in the breaking of the bread. Do we, in our worship each Sunday, experience the same burning within us as the Scriptures are proclaimed and the Gospel s eternal message is opened for our ears and eyes to behold? Does the bread of Holy Communion open our eyes to see Jesus when it is broken for us to share? Emmaus is more than a story, it is every Sunday morning! Some things to know as we begin... 5 PRAYER OF THE DAY We seek God s help to live in the power of the resurrection. P God has put the music of the resurrection into our hearts. C The name of Jesus is music to our ears. P May God bless us with joys unending. C May Jesus be with us as we worship and praise our God. P Let us pray. O God, the name of Jesus calms our deaths and bids our sorrows cease; sings music in the sinner s ear; brings life and health and peace. Open our ears to your word and hearts to your love, that we may experience Jesus in our worship and proclaim him in the way we live, who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. P Let us recognize those who have responded to the call of God to the ministry of music in our church as members of the Senior Choir: Jan Altenburg, Hazle Arner, Robert Coombe, Marian Frantz, Lori Hoppes, Merk Hunsicker, Susan Hunsicker, Nancy Knadler, Leonard Miller, Bonnie Myers, and Margie Schock; and, let us bless their director, our congregation s Minister of Music, Kristine Betz. Singing is a ministry of Christ among us. In grateful appreciation for the gift of your music ministry, we offer our sincere thanks, our loyal support and our prayers. May God give you grace to offer your music and your life in faithfulness and consecration, now, and in the world to come. The presiding minister addresses the assembly. FIRST READING: Acts 2:14a, Today s reading is the conclusion of Peter s sermon preached following the giving of the Holy Spirit to the apostles on the day of Pentecost. The center of his preaching is the bold declaration that God has made the crucified Jesus both Lord and Christ by raising him from the dead.

Praise the LORD! SECOND READING: I Peter 1:17-23 This imagery of exile is used to help the readers of this letter understand that they are strangers in a strange land. Christians no longer belong to this age. Through the death of Christ we belong to God, so that our focus, faith, and hope are no longer on such things as silver or gold.

Visitor cards, envelopes, and communion cards may be placed in the offering plate. There will be a VBS organizational meeting TODAY following Sunday School at about 11:15. Suzie Hartung & Megan Frantz are looking for helpers. If you would like to help, but cannot attend the meeting, please see Suzie or Megan. St. Peter's bell choir is reorganizing and help is needed. Our bells are currently silent, but our worship would be greatly enhanced if they could once again ring out some beautiful sounds. We are looking for ringers age 14 and older who will commit to regular practices and performances during our worship services. It is not necessary to read music, but it is a benefit. An organizational meeting will be held in the sanctuary immediately following worship Next Sunday, May 7th. A practice schedule will be discussed at that time. Anyone who is interested in becoming a ringer should see Pastor Ken or Kris Betz ( ). Those younger than 14 who have an interest in ringing should also let Pastor Ken or Kris know!
