4 Featured on Formed.org: Manalive A Comic Novel about Murder, Bigamy, Burglary, Insanity, and Truth, Beauty, and the Goodness of Life By G. K. Chesterton This classic novel by Chesterton tells the rollicking tale of Innocent Smith, a man who may be crazy or he may be the most sane man of all. Arriving at a London boarding house accompanied by a windstorm, Innocent is soon accused of attempted murder, burglary, polygamy, and deserting his wife. As the residents of Beacon House try to piece together what this madman is up to, a detective is called upon to unravel the accusations against Smith. Actor Kevin O Brien of the "Theater of the Word" gives a dramatic reading of the text. 5 Seminaria Scrip Young people are often asked, What do you want to do when you grow up? Almost all of us were, or will be, asked this question. The answer may have had high ideals or imaginings, and it would seem that some of the answers that were given never came to be. But this question is asked of all of us by God, Where are you going? There is a wonderful story about St. Peter that illustrates this. St. Peter was escaping the coming persecution in Rome, when he saw the Lord on the road going back into Rome. Peter said to Him, Quo Vadis? In English it means, Where are you going? Jesus responded to him, Back to Jerusalem, to be crucified again. Peter then sees his error and returns to Rome where he is crucified. The Lord has called us to nothing less than a life of radical surrender. There is no better way of saying this: His way and plan for our life is better than ours. Do the things I do lead me to Christ and a Christ-like life? When the Church speaks about vocations, what she means is the call to holiness. The idea of a vocation is a calling to the life where we will find happiness. It could be priesthood or religious life, marriage, or even being single. But all revolve around this question, Quo Vadis? Am I going towards God or my own lifestyle? It s not a matter of God abandoning us if we don't, but rather that God sees where we will find the greatest joy and that is the vocation to which we are called. If this seems slim, think about the saints of the Church like St. Peter. I don t think we would ever find that he regretted his decision to follow Christ even though it meant that he must be crucified. This is the beauty of a vocation, our calling in life. If we are indeed following Christ there is no question of unhappiness, even if this means sacrifice and suffering. I encourage the young men of the parish between the ages of 14 and 18 to consider joining me along with many of the other seminarians at Quo Vadis Days. This is not a firm step towards priesthood, but a way of coming closer to an understanding of what your vocation is, be it married, single or priest/religious. Peace, Seminarian Rory Quo Vadis Days Attention Young Men.. Do you know where your life is going? The Lord Jesus has a great plan for you! You are invited to attend the first annual Quo Vadis Days camp to spend time with other young men your age looking at the Lord s call in your life while having lots of fun. Quo Vadis Days is an overnight camp led by priests and seminarians of the diocese and includes a full schedule of hiking, swimming, canoeing, sports and games, daily Mass and prayer, and opportunities to grow in friendship with the Lord and with each other. Quo Vadis Days will be held August 6-10, 2018 at Northeast Catholic College in Warner, NH. The program is geared towards Young Men Ages The cost is $50 (financial aid available). For more information or to register, please visit: liveinblackandwhite.com You may also speak to Fr. Charles or Seminarian Rory for additional details. Diocese of Manchester Director of Vocations Fr. Matthew J. Mason mmason@rcbm.org DYNAMIC CATHOLIC There will be a video presentation of The Seven Pillars of Catholic Spirituality by Matthew Kelly on Monday, July 16 th at Assumption Hall at 7PM. It runs for one hour and will be followed by a 40min discussion if the attendees desire. This video by Matthew should inspire you to live life to the fullest and encourage you to act purposefully and direct you to deeper conversation with The Creator of the Universe. Thank you to all who helped with their time, efforts and donations; Vacation Bible School at Sacred Heart Church was again a success!
