Pastor Melde s Page April showers bring May flowers. What I love about that phrase is the emphasis that first comes the gloomy rainy days before the flowers emerge with their beauty. It takes that work underground. It takes that work of the darker, rainy, stormy times. It takes work before the full beauty of life emerges. There is a process to life. And though most of us like to enjoy the good, end-results, we all have to go through the process. On the day of Resurrection, we learned from God that God is willing to go through that process with us in order to lead us to the beauty of life that emerges from it. As people of Christian faith, we believe that we too will have that life eternal with God because of what Jesus endured and received and gave to us. It is no small gift that the one who gives us life forever is also the one who is with us in the process that leads us to that gift. I pray this April will be a time of showers for you, for us allshowers of God s grace in Jesus Christ, our Risen Savior and Lord. And may you trust not only the end-results of this life process, may you discover the one who gives that end-result, right here with you in the process. Peace in our journeys, Pastor Steve Melde

Knowing God Through Worship at CPC Every Sunday is a celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Join us in April as we begin the entire month on Easter Sunday with Communion and the celebration of Jesus Resurrection. Then, come again each Sunday to continue to give thanks for the grace we received that morning, the Grace we are now learning to live throughout our lives. 8:30 a.m. Contemporary Worship in Fellowship Hall Usually around tables, worship is more casual in style. Worshipers can enjoy a cup of coffee or juice during the service. Remember, we welcome children in worship and have special blue activity bags available for them on the table as you enter the worship space. Our Band is outstanding and leads us in a soft rock style of music. You just might find yourself clapping along or even dancing a bit! 9:30 a.m. Sunday Funday School for all ages. We have varying opportunities of study to help people grow in their Christian faith. All studies are Biblically based, some focus on a book of the Bible, while others look more topically at issues that face us as Christians. Our Children are involved in a Rotation Model which allows them to be engaged in a story for several weeks from several different perspectives. This style gives them a chance to not only learn the story, but to become a part of the story. 10:45 a.m. Traditional Worship in the Sanctuary Our Sanctuary is in the round, which allows worshipers to stay focused on the Communion Table at the Center. Led by our vocal and bell choirs, as well as our Organist/Pianist, this service has a more traditional style to it. Hymns of all generations are sung together. Remember, we welcome children in worship and have special blue activity bags available for them on the tables in the corners of the sanctuary as you enter the worship space. 3

Easter Music at CPC Hallelujah! Christ the Lord is Risen Maundy Thursday: Communion and solos by Richard Hintze, Julie McCrea and Pastor Melde Easter Sunrise Service Solo by Richard Hintze and special music by Julie McCrea and Phil Mendoza Easter Sunday at our 8:30 am service we will enjoy our congregational Easter Choir that will be leading our worship time. Easter Sunday at 10:30 am in the Sanctuary we will be treated to some special traditional Easter organ music. At the 10:45 am Worship Service The CPC Choir will be singing 3 anthems telling the Easter story from the tomb to the resurrection There will 3 trumpets and 2 trombones and timpani; solos, and the congregation will join the choir for the most famous of the Easter hymns. It is going to be MOST exciting! He is risen indeed!!

CPC ANNOUNCEMENTS! Pastor Steve Brownson will be away on Sabbatical until June 22, Please keep him in your prayers as he takes time for reflection, study, and relaxation. We will not be scheduling a CPC all church mission tip this year as our host is unable to provide the opportunity in June as we had planned. We ll try again another time. The Buildings and Grounds Team has been busy working on the front entrance of the church, doing some landscaping which has made our entrance very attractive. Many thanks for your hard work and great care of our facility! AwenRising, directed by our own Richard Hintze, will be performing at a concert at CPC on Saturday, April 11th at 7 pm. Watch your Thursday News for more information. PCOA will be holding a 6 week program on Diabetes and Healthy Living right here at CPC beginning April 13, from 1:30 until 3:00. Must register with PCOA for the classes. Ph

Campus Improvement Planning Team Our CIP Team (Campus Improvement Planning Team) has been hard at work listening and thinking, praying and planning We have now engaged the services of a professional fund raiser who is guiding us in a Feasibility study which will give the congregation an opportunity to begin to pray and plan for the future and begin to make some financial commitment to the plans that are being brought forward. There will be a special congregational mailing and survey and we ask that all participate as fully as possible as we work to refine our plans and continue the tradition of having a campus that helps us all grow in our relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

Making a Difference: Stewardship 2015 Thank you to all who financially support the mission and ministry of CPC. Just recently we were able to install two automatic door openers to the bathrooms off our grass quad into the MultiPurpose building. We discovered that those doors were very heavy and difficult to open. These ADA approved door openers make these bathrooms more accessible to all people. The total cost of the project, just for these two doors, was $4,000. It s an expensive endeavor, but a vital part of the ministry of CPC being and becoming a campus accessible to all as we learn to be followers of God through Jesus Christ. It is because of your generosity to CPC that we were able to complete this project. Thank you. We also are now able to help 12 children at Kellond Elementary School with our Haven Totes program. Each Friday, we leave 12 backpacks with snacks and food for the weekend to help these children whose families are so financially challenged that they don t have enough food in the house to completely feed these kids. On Mondays, the kids return the bag to school, empty, and we refill it! We have increased our number of kids under care to 12, and we pray that our resources continue to grow in such a way that we can continue to increase the number of kids we support. Thank you for making CPC a primary source of your charitable giving. Together, we are MAKING A DIFFERENCE. 7

Life in the Presbytery de Cristo Being a part of the Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA) gives us the opportunity to work together, churches and pastors. April 16-18, our Presbytery has invited our pastors to a special retreat focusing on being a prayerful leader. Both Pastors Steve will be able to attend, and we pray they will find moments of deep connection with God in Christ, that they might return and help us find those connections, also. Our giving through our congregation helps to support these kinds of efforts of our denomination to continue to help our pastors grow in their faith so they might help us to grow in ours.

Compassion Connection is a ministry to the VIPP S (Visited In Person People) of Christ Presbyterian Church, those who are not able to join us in worship on a regular basis for a variety of reasons. This vibrant ministry of love, compassion and appreciation is always looking for folks who are willing to help us with visitation, writing, calling, or serving communion to our VIPP S. It is a way of paying back those who have served before us by keeping them stay connected to their church family. Please contact Juanita Garcia, if you would like more information. If you know someone who would benefit from this ministry or if you are interested in becoming a part of this ministry, we would love to hear from you. 9

The CPC Book Club will meet again on April 14, at 1 PM in the library. We will discuss The Covenant by Naomi Ragan. All are welcome to read and enjoy a relaxing discussion of this book. The Covenant Naomi Ragan Fiction 4 1/2 stars Ragan, an American writer who's lived in Israel for more than 30 years, blends tragedies of the past with headline news of today in her gripping, emotionally charged sixth novel. It's 2002, and the Margulies family oncologist Jonathan; his pregnant, American-born wife, Elise; and their daughter, Ilana are contentedly living in a Jerusalem settlement, until one day, on their way home, Jonathan and Ilana are kidnapped by Hamas. Elise's frantic call to her Bubbee Leah in Brooklyn reunites four women now grandmas and great-grandmas It's a race against time, as the women wield their considerable influence and the Israeli army desperately tries to intercede with the kidnappers before the captives are killed. Ragen weaves in deeper, more serious undertones than the thriller plot suggests, touching on the stubborn pride and the serious purpose that keeps Israelis fighting (or, in some cases, not fighting) for their fragile country, "the land that God promised to the Jewish people in his Covenant to Abraham.
