2 Dear Friends, Thanks for the warm welcome. Your heartening smiles, affable looks, warm hand clasps and generous words of appreciation, makes me feel truly welcomed. I want to thank especially the Deacons, Ed, Bob and Bernie who helped, going out of their way, in the ministry. There are all those who assisted at the Eucharist as altar servers, lectors, Eucharistic ministers, sacristans, ushers, lectors, cantors, organists and choir. We can be sure that together, in performing our little tasks, the past week has been a special time of grace for many. I want to thank Sissy and Natalie at the office for their care and support. It is good to be in St Anselm's and I feel privileged. We are back to Ordinary Time of the liturgical year. Of course only for a short while, as we will soon enter into the Lenten Season. Yet, for now, it is good to be back to the ordinary. We all know what it means to get back to the normal day after a weekend, to a normal routine after preparing long for a festive occasion at home or for a party at our work place or in the community. Getting to touch the normal ground is indeed a special experience, if it comes with a deepened awareness of the sacredness of the 'ordinary'. May we all have a week ahead filled with the routine affairs of life, keeping us cheerful and enthusiastic for the Lord is ever present. Jose spends some time at home in India. Fr. George Thadathil sdb is the Principal of Salesian College Sonada and Siliguri Campus, Darjeeling, India. He has experience as Co-Pastor and as Diocesan and Regional Youth Director for the Catholic Y outh Movement in India besides teaching experience in the seminary and college. He was the classmate of Fr. Jose at High School and for Theological Studies. Adopt-A-Family Thanks A very Blessed and Happy New Year to everyone! Thank you to all who responded to our Christmas appeal. The outpouring of gift cards for the 24 families impacted by the fires at St. Eugene s School in Santa Rosa was beyond anything we expected. We delivered a box of gift cards, ranging in value from $25 to $225 and many small gifts. There were also generous cash donations which will be applied to the tuition of some of the victims. The school principal and secretary greeted us and were moved by our generosity. They invited us to stay for a luncheon and a visit with some of the school staff. God bless every heart and hand that contributed to this effort. Additionally, our five local families enjoyed a very Merry Christmas with an abundance of donated toys, clothing and gift cards for food. We also wish to express heart-felt gratitude to everyone who made financial contributions to our Adopt- A-Family Program. Your generosity enables us to help our families with vital needs throughout the year. Adopt-A-Family would not exist without all of you, our amazing and wonderful parish community. If you are on blood pressure medication, have your blood pressure checked regularly. You can check your blood pressure at CVS. If you are a diabetic be sure your blood glucose is checked on a regular bases. The flu season is here; it is not too late to get a flu shot. If you are a senior make sure you get the extra strength flu shot, also, make sure you have the new pneumonia vaccine. During this time remember to: 1.Eat properly and drink plenty of fluids (more water and less coffee and alcohol). 2. Sleep at least 6-8 hours per night. Children require 8-10 hours. Many children do not get enough sleep. 3.Exercise whenever you can, it helps keep you fit and reduces stress. Stress effects your immune system. 4.Remember to laugh and play. Sister Margaret of Amityville, New York, has made peace and justice issues the focus of her life and work since she entered the convent in She spent years teaching in inner-city parishes in New York City before earning a master's degree in international political economy and development at Fordham University. From , she lived in the Dominican Republic in a small town on the Haitian border doing mission work. It was there that she had what she describes as "an immersion experience in the underside of development." 5 Pope Francis appeals to the world: We all must work together to protect our planet: I urgently appeal, then, for a new dialogue about how we are shaping the future of our planet. We need a conversation which includes everyone, since the environmental challenge we are undergoing, and its human roots, concern and affect us all. Regrettably, many efforts to seek concrete solutions to the environmental crisis have proved ineffective, not only because of powerful opposition but also because of a more general lack of interest. Obstructionist attitudes, even on the part of believers, can range from denial of the problem to indifference, nonchalant resignation or blind confidence in technical solutions. We require a new and universal solidarity. All of us can cooperate as instruments of God for the care of creation, each according to his or her own culture, experience, involvements and talents. Laudato Si, on Care of Our Common Home, 2015 San Anselmo is sponsoring a series of workshops on Resilient Neighborhoods, a program to learn how to reduce your carbon footprint by taking simple actions like trimming energy and waste, conserving water, and making smart transportation choices. Meet your neighbors, learn about cash incentives for home efficiency, prepare your family for emergencies, and take actions to build a stronger and safer community. Have questions about the program?
