2 Dear Parishioners, Jesus knew that the apostles were afraid. He took their fears seriously. When he said to them, Do not be afraid, he was giving them courage. Jesus knew that if the apostles were afraid, they would not be able to fulfill his mission. How did he remove their fears? He asked them to trust in God and in his providence. He wanted them to believe in a God who lovingly watches over life and death of even the smallest and the least valuable of his creatures. Jesus said, Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without the father s knowledge. You are worth more than many sparrows. Jesus assured them that God knew every detail of their lives, that he would support them at every crisis they faced. The greatest freedom is freedom from fear. We cannot live a dignified life unless we overcome our fears. We can overcome our fears when we realize and know that God lovingly watches over our life! Yours sincerely, Fr. THIS Sunday, June 25th. It is with great joy that we extend to our St. Anselm Community an invitation to share in the celebration of our Pastor, Fr. Jose s, 25th Silver Jubilee to the Priesthood. Please join us on, Sunday, June 25th, for the 10:00am Mass. A reception will take place in Centennial Hall immediately following the Mass. For Children: -Always watch your child (grandchild) while he or she is bathing, swimming or around water -Gather everything needed (towel, bath toys, sunscreen) before the child enters the water; if you must leave the area, take the child with you -Empty all buckets, bathtubs and kiddie pools of water immediately after use and store them upside down and out of your child's reach -Do not allow your child to play or swim in canals or streams -Install a 5-foot-tall fence with self-closing gate latches around your pool or hot tub -Consider installing door alarms to alert adults when a child has unexpectedly opened a door leading to a pool or hot tub -Keep a phone and life preserver near the pool or hot tub in case of emergency -Use snug-fitting life jackets instead of floaties, but remember that a child can still drown with a lifejacket on if not carefully watched -Become certified in first aid and CPR -Find age-appropriate swim lessons for your child, but keep in mind that lessons do not make your child "drown-proof" For Adults: -Always swim with a buddy -Never swim if you have been drinking alcohol or have taken certain medications -Learn how to swim; find swimming lessons at the local YMCA or park district -When boating, wear a life jacket -Learn First Aid and CPR -Swim in designated areas with lifeguards Green Tip-Planning for the Future: Plant Some Trees- Before it gets too hot this summer, plant a few trees. Trees don t just provide shade. Through a process called evapotranspiration, they also cool and moisten the air. Buy trees that won t need a lot of water or care, and plant them strategically. In temperate climates, for example, planting deciduous trees such as maple and ash, west and southwest of your house, will block sunlight in summer but let it in during the winter. Trees also add to the beauty of your home, boost property values, and provide a perch for a rope swing -- a great place to cool off on a summer evening.

This year s Novena will be conducted by Rev. Charles Nawodylo, OCD, a Parochial Vicar of the Carmelite Parish of St. Therese in Alhambra, CA. We are so happy to have Father Charles with us for this Novena, as he is an excellent homilist, with a wonderful knowledge of our Carmelite Spirituality and Sacred Scripture. 5 On Wednesday, June 14th, we had our first, and very successful, St. Anselm Spring Luncheon. Fr. Jose impressed us all with his grilling skills. The lunch menu was done picnic style with: organic hamburgers or Vegan burgers, Caesar salad, potato salad, chips, cookies, beer, sparkling water, and wine. Around 40 parishioners attended, and requested that we host this wonderful event again. Keep an eye out for a Summer Luncheon coming before the season ends! Bring the family and bring your appetite. A special thank you to all those who generously gave their time and hospitality for this event.
