3 From your Pastor Andrew Gale For those who would get a good grounding in the word, who would like some depth to their daily devotions I commend to you the various daily readings written by the great Baptist preacher of old CH Spurgeon. He wrote several devotional books including: Morning by Morning. Faith s Chequebook and others. They are available free of charge on line. Here a mediation from Faith s chequebook: Love the Church "Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come. For Thy servants take pleasure in her stones, and favour the dust thereof" (Psalm 102:13-14). Yes, our prayers for the church will be heard. The set time is come. We love the prayer meetings, and the Sunday school, and all the services of the LORD's house. We are bound in heart to all the people of God and can truly say, There's not a lamb in all thy flock I would disdain to feed There's not a foe before whose face I'd fear thy cause to plead. If this is the general feeling, we shall soon enjoy times of refreshing from the presence of the LORD. Our assemblies will be filled, saints will be revived, and sinners will be converted. This can only come of the LORD's mercy; but it will come, and we are called upon to expect it. The time, the set time, is come. Let us bestir ourselves. Let us love every stone of our Zion, even 3
4 though it may be fallen down. Let us treasure up the least truth, the least ordinance, the least believer, even though some may despise them as only so much dust. When we favour Zion, God is about to favour her. When we take pleasure in the LORD's work, the LORD Himself will take pleasure in it. AG: I long for the day when we gather together not as a pious chore but because we desire to be with God s people. I long for us to be so in love with each other that we look for excuses to meet not for excuses to stay away. A desire for the meat of the word, a desire to pray for God s work around the world. God is doing great things among us. God is blessing our youth and our aged ones. We are seeing growth and blessing. We are experiencing the presence of the Lord in our gatherings. We are going deeper into His word. These are great times, don t be on the edge looking in, get into the middle of the action, look for opportunities to serve, volunteer to help, push on into new ministries. The set time is come! 4
5 Tribute to Alma Stevens Alma died on 13 the June 2015 with cremation at Luton Crematorium on Thursday 2nd July 2015 Alma was born in Risca South Wales on 7th September 1932 moving to live with her grandmother and Aunt in Harlow where she was brought up. She married husband James in 1954 and had two children John and Janis and also fostered children. When moving to Luton she worked in Debenhams Store making friends there some whom attended her funeral. My husband Malcolm and James became friends by working on their allotments together and through them I became friends with Alma. Through our friendship Alma became involved in the Church, helping at Jump, being a member of Mothers and Others, now Lift and was baptised at the Church. She enjoyed the retirement weeks and Church holidays making many friends along the way. She enjoyed craft, making cards etc. and was part of a group that met each week to make cards. Unfortunately ill health prevented her being involved in these activities in her latter years but she was still interested in what was going on. Audrey O'Dell. 5

14 FRIENDSHIPS Some people have a very special friend One with who most of your spare time you spend. Someone there to encourage you in all you do, Who is always near when you feel down and blue. There's even. friendships in a busy street, As one with another you do greet. Sometimes just a touch of the cap. To you from a friendly little chap. There is friendship even in a supermarket. From the smiling lad as he hands you a basket. And then at the cash desk after you pay. As the friendly voice says ' Have a nice day! Some like the company and friendship of a group To share interests or recipe of a favourite soup To make and bake for a homemade stall. Or share in a country supper in a village hall. Another friend is a favourite book. A story, poems or just how to cook, To curl up with in the warmth of your home. Or tuck in a suitcase if you have to roam. There is friendship even with your cat When there's no one round to have a chat. As he curls up at your feet, the warmth of the fire to share It's so much comfort just to have him there. God's friendship is like this, no words need be spoken His love's all around, with the silence not broken He is everywhere whenever we are in need. He is most precious, a great friend indeed.
