Time 5 th / 6 th November 2016 Vol. 34 No. 48 Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time For us Jesus resurrection is the ultimate ground and the day-to-day power of our hope; it is what enables us to work for a more human world, world in line with God s will, and to wait trustingly for God s salvation. In the risen Jesus we find God s deepest intention confirmed forever: an abundantly happy life for all creation, a life forever free of evil. A life lived from its very Source Now I know that one day I shall see the all the crucified people who are now suffering in this world without happiness or peace, enjoying true life at last More than that, upheld by Jesus, I dare to hope for my own resurrection. In him I hear the most important words that God can say to my heart: To the thirst I will give water as a gift from the spring of the water of life. As a gift! 2 A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke Some Sadducees those who say that there is no resurrection approached Jesus and they put this question to him, Master, we have it from Moses in writing, that if a man s married brother dies childless, the man must marry the widow to raise up children for his brother. Well, then, there were seven brothers. The first, having married a wife, died childless. The second and then the third married the widow. And the same with all seven, they died leaving no children. Finally, the woman herself died. Now, at the resurrection, to which of them will she be wife since she had been married to all seven? Jesus replied, The children of this world take wives and husbands but those who are judged worthy of a place in the other world and in the resurrection from the dead do not marry because they can no longer die, for they are the same as the angels, and being children of the resurrection they are sons of God. And Moses himself implies that the dead rise again, in the passage about the bush where he calls the Lord the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. Now he is God not of the dead, but of the living; for to him all men are in fact alive. Commentary on the Gospel For the past several weeks we have been following Jesus on his great final journey to Jerusalem as presented in Luke s gospel. We ve heard hard sayings about the stern demands of discipleship; we ve heard encouraging assurances about the extravagance of God s mercy towards sinners, i.e. towards all of us, in, for example the parable of the prodigal son, or rather the prodigal father. The passage we hear this morning doesn t indicate it, but Jesus journey to Jerusalem is over, and he is soon to complete the journey of his return to his Father in his death and resurrection. But there s another journey of Jesus that continues, his journey into the minds and hearts of men and women, where he only enters as one freely accepted in faith and trust. And so our own journey into full acceptance of Jesus continues day in, day out. Let Christ live by faith in your hearts, says Paul, and elsewhere Let the word, the message of Christ dwell in you in all its richness Rosarians Mass & Afternoon Tea You are warmly invited to the Rosarians Mass and afternoon tea to be held at St Catherine s Convent on 29 th November. Mass will commence at 1:00pm, followed by afternoon tea with the Sisters. Come along and enjoy the company of old and new friends. Please do not arrive before 12:30. Priory and Parish Centre Building Update Since the last update Fr. Peter and the Parish Building Committee have been in active discussions with Peter Hunt Architects and we are pleased to inform you that the layout of the facility has been finalised to suit the Parish s current and future needs. Detailed drawings have been completed and a Pre-Tender estimate has been prepared by Rawlinson s (Quantity Surveyors) to serve as a yardstick to compare quotes. Tenders have been issued to six builders on the 22 nd of October. They have been invited to submit lump sum quotes by the 17 th of November Once technical and commercial evaluations are completed we are aiming to award a contract to the successful builder by mid December 2016 for construction work to commence in January In the meantime, we are continuing to maintain a collaborative relationship with the Badge construction team, the contractor building the Regis Aged Care facility. We have recently agreed to allow them to undertake earthworks along the common boundary line to blend levels between the two projects for a mutually beneficial outcome. The Building Committee proposes to give a progress report and an opportunity for parishioners to discuss and view plans at the Annual General Meeting to be held on Sunday the 20 th of November after the 10.00am Mass. All are welcome.

3 St Vincent De Paul Society Appeal for Members Our Local Conference is urgently appealing for new members to join with them to help the needy in our communities. Full training and support is given. It is becoming increasingly difficult for members to continue to do the good work they do without the support of a few more people. Without new members our Local Conference is in danger of collapsing. If you can help, please phone Fred on and leave a message. Every event is attended by hundreds of people and the final event of 2016 is expected to be the biggest yet, being held at the stunning Quarry Amphitheatre in City Beach on Friday 18 th November. Organised in partnership with Catholic Youth Ministry, Ignite Live brings together groups and individuals from all over the Perth archdiocese.
