Lent is a 40-day season marked by repentance, fasting, reflection, and ultimately celebration. The 40-day period represents Christ s time of temptation in the wilderness, where he fasted and where Satan tempted him. Lent asks believers to set aside a time each year for similar fasting, marking an intentional season of focus on Christ s life, ministry, sacrifice, and resurrection. 3 Baptism Prep Class Class lasts no more than two hours and is held at the Church. The next class dates are Monday, March 18 at 7:30pm and Saturday, April 27 at 1:00pm. No dates for baptism will be accepted until after you have attended one of the classes. Please call the parish office at for further information or to register. Religious Education There is a R.E. Teacher Planning Meeting scheduled for this Tuesday, February 26 at 7:00pm. Students (and their parents) in the Confirmation Program have the opportunity to attend the annual Theology of the Body evening on Wednesday, February 27 at 7:00pm in the Worship Center. Confessions Confessions will be heard, Saturday, March 2 at 3:30pm. First Friday Holy Hour The first Friday of every month has traditionally been observed as a day to show devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. With this in mind, St. Bernard s Parish is having a holy hour in honor of the Sacred Heart on the first Friday of every month. The holy hour will consist of the 9:30 Mass followed by about 30 minutes of exposition of the Blessed Sacrament for private personal devotion and closing with Benediction at about 10:30. Friday, March 1 is the next First Friday. All are invited to join us for this special monthly devotion. Photo Directories for Sale We have a limited number of extra St. Bernard Photo Directories that we are selling for $20.00 each. They are a hardcover book with photos of the past and present (and future!). Sr. Barbara said The historical collection of pictures of the founding years were quite meaningful and brought back many wonder-filled memories!! The directories will be available after Masses until they are gone. You may also call the parish office and reserve one to be picked up after Mass. St. Bernard Peace and Social Justice Ministry 2019 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal Every gift to the CMAA makes a difference! The opening report for the 2019 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal (CMAA) in today s bulletin details the many ways our annual appeals helps us offer Signs of Hope of God s work here on earth. The CMAA supports 30 ministries that benefit so many throughout the Diocese of Joliet. As you will read in the opening report, gifts to the CMAA make a difference to members of our parish as well as our friends and neighbors and our brothers and sisters in need. You are strongly encouraged to attend the program before the baby is born. Call the rectory a few months in advance. Confessions On Saturdays as scheduled in the bulletin (generally first and third Saturdays at 3:30pm) and at any time upon request. Marriage Marriages should be arranged at least 6 months in advance. CHURCH ARRANGEMENTS ARE TO BE MADE FIRST. Hall and other social arrangements are to be made after the Church date has been set. Weddings are not performed on Sundays. If either party is under 19 years of age, Diocesan policy requires special instruction and a date cannot be given until the instructions have been completed and the Chancery Office has granted permission. Funerals Arrangements for a funeral must be made with the Rectory by a member of the family before publication of notice in the newspaper and the time or date is set with the Funeral Director. Sick Calls Call the Rectory at any time. If there is anyone at home who cannot get to Mass or the Sacraments because of illness or advanced age, please let Father know. Family members may request to take communion to other members confined at home. Hospital Calls If you or one of your Catholic neighbors is entering the hospital, please let us know.
