1 18 th / 19 th March 2017 Vol. 35 No. 15 THE SEASON OF LENT On our Lenten journey so far, we ve been guided by the twin stories of Jesus testing in the wilderness, and his transfiguration on the holy mountain. For the next three weeks we turn to dramatic scenes in the gospel of John which real fundamental features of his identity and mission. He is the living water (4:5-42), the light of the world (9:1-41) and the resurrection and the life (11:1-45). So central are these stories in the liturgical tradition, and so apt for the preparation of the elect for their baptism at Easter, that these gospels and the readings that go with them may be read every year. We begin this series of profound revelations with the story of Jesus dialogue with the Samaritan woman at the well. From so long ago it challenges us to reflect deeply. What do we really thirst for in our lives? And who or what will quench our heartfelt longings? Stations of the Cross will be held in the Church each Friday during Lent at 7:00 pm. Our Lady of the Rosary Foundation Information Sessions This Weekend The Our Lady of the Rosary Foundation has been established to build up the financial capacity of our parish to maintain our church into the future. We would like to invite all parishioners to attend a short information session about the Foundation in the church immediately after each Mass this weekend. The foundation directors will present more information about the Foundation and how you may be able to contribute. There will be an opportunity to ask questions. Tea and coffee will be provided. We look forward to seeing you. Lenten Healing Mass Jesus went round Galilee...curing all kinds of diseases and sickness among the people Matt 4:23 This Lent come to the parish Lenten Healing Mass on Thursday March 23 rd at 10.00am followed by morning tea prepared by Rosary Care. If you need transport contact Stephanie Rosary Care Short Term Assistance (Brochure available on notice board) Phone: Doris or Catherine

2 Building Commencement to limit driveway access to church The start of work on the new Parish Centre and adjoining Priory is imminent. It will also come with disrupted access to the front and south side of the church. The first two months of the year have been used to refine contractual, budgetary and cash flow arrangements for the project. This week the formal contract with our builder, Badge, was signed and a building licence approved by the City of Stirling. Work should get under way in the coming week. Until Holy Week, the driveway at the front of the church will be blocked off. Vehicles will need to be parked in the street. During this period of about three weeks, a small cluster of replacement car bays will be constructed in the front of the church. But with the building site fenced off, the southern driveway will be eliminated for the time being. This means that when the front access resumes by Easter, only one entrance and exit will be available for walking and driving for the duration of the 30 week construction period. Unfortunately, those who park in the front of the church will face some inconveniences as the turning radius will be tight for reversing. A traffic management plan, being prepared for the safety of our parishioners, will be issued shortly. This will be updated regularly. Iona Presentation College welcomes prospective families to one of our Open Mornings in March Thursday 23 March & Tuesday 28 March Presentations commence at 9.30am in the College Sports Centre followed by a guided tour and morning tea. Bookings can be made at Come and meet us at 33 Palmerston Street, Mosman Park Tel: admin@iona.wa.edu.au Week 3: Australia Like many First Australians, Uncle Richard was torn from his family and culture as a child. Forced to grow up in the State-run Kinchela Boys Home (KBH), he suffered violence and pain that haunted his adult years. Now, through Kinchela Boys Home Aboriginal Corporation, a Caritas Australia partner, he is reconnecting with former KBH boys in a program that restores their wellbeing and helps their families. Please donate to Project Compassion 2017 and help members of the Stolen Generations support each other on the journey to wellbeing. The Good Egg! Pope Francis said that every person ought to have the awareness that purchasing is always a moral and not simply an economic act. Can t find slavery-free eggs in your supermarket? Did you know that the Easter eggs in Australian supermarkets might be made with cocoa beans picked by children, many of whom have been enslaved or forced to work in exploitative conditions with no access to education and other human rights? The International Labour Rights Forum (ILRF) estimates that there are 1.5 million children working in the cocoa sector in West Africa. When you go to your local supermarket, look for chocolate that has one of these three symbols. If you can t find any, ask the manager if they stock any. ABUNDANT LIFE The autumn edition of the magazine Abundant Life is available. Please take a copy. It deals with State Election issues

If we want to walk with Jesus to Jerusalem, comfort him in his suffering, and stand beside him at the foot of his cross - and if we want to join the group of disciples on Easter Sunday morning as they try to contain the explosion of joy that comes with the realisation that Jesus has overcome death and is alive again - then we will need first of all to be honest with ourselves and about ourselves. We are sinners in need of God's mercy and forgiveness. The season of Lent calls us to give our deepest "yes" to God's compassion and healing love, but we will not be able to do so until we acknowledge how much we are in need. (excerpt from Archbishop s homily Sunday 5 th March) 4 YEAR OLD KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENTS 2019 We will be interviewing new families to the school in Term 2, If you have not enrolled your child or are unsure whether an application has been completed, please contact Laurie Evans, Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday on Mothers Prayers Lenten Reflections 2017 We invite parishioners or parents to join us to reflect on Hope in the Sunday Readings during Lent. We meet each Tuesday afternoon at pm. Our meeting place is Terese Johnston s home 35 Coronation Street, Doubleview. The Hope book prepared in the Diocese of Wollongong is available at a cost of $10.
