Because of our Lord Jesus Christ, however, Pentecost is also associated with the Holy Spirit that Jesus proclaimed. Before he ascended into the heavenly realm, Jesus promised that the missionary work of his Church would spread out, by the power of the Holy Spirit, from Jerusalem to all the world. In Acts 2 the Holy Spirit empowered the early disciples to speak in many languages, revealing the all-encompassing nature of the gospel message. The Holy Spirit is the Universal God within us who blesses us with a deep, intuitive awareness of God's truth, grace, presence and power. For our own benefit and the benefit of all, the Holy Spirit calls, enlightens, refines and empowers us. 2 THE SON IS SHINING I love the changing of the seasons of nature, and I love living in a part of the country where all four season are fully manifested. In other words, our Fall is very Fall-ish, our Winter is very Winter-ish, our Spring is very Spring-ish, and our Summer is very Summer-ish. In addition, these clearly defined four seasons we have in Wisconsin give us four opportunities each year to really appreciate whichever season we are in. Also, the transitions between the seasons give us an opportunity to enjoy the wonder of the first or the last snow of Winter, and to enjoy the wonder of the first flowers of Spring or the flowers of Fall along with the changing of the leaves into a vibrant spectrum of colors. Even the snow-blanked landscape of January has a mystical beauty when it is lit by the Moon and stars of the night sky or by the colorful Christmas/Epiphany lights still decorating many houses and businesses throughout Wintertime. Now as we are going through the budding and flowering of Spring, transitioning toward Summer, I am mindful of the passage of the times and seasons of our lives. Consequently, the beautiful song from the musical Fiddler On The Roof called Sunrise, Sunset has been on my mind. It is a song specifically about the passage of time as it relates to children and family, but it is also about the passage of all the times and seasons of faith and life. The following is an excerpt of the lyrics of this song: Sunrise, sunset, sunrise, sunset Swiftly flow the days Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers Blossoming even as they gaze Sunrise, sunset, sunrise, sunset Swiftly fly the years One season following another Laden with happiness and tears Truer words than these have never been sung. Truly, so very swiftly flow the days and so very swiftly fly the years of this life, calling us to savor each and every moment, and causing us to reflect on the life to come when we pass on from this world of happiness and tears. This is especially true when a loved one is nearing death. At that season of life, that season of tears, we contemplate our place in God s universe and our ultimate heavenly destiny granted to us by the grace God in, with and through Christ Jesus our Savior and Lord. Therefore, according to the faith, hope and love of Christ, the Christian believer is able to reverse the song Sunrise, Sunset to Sunset, Sunrise. This is because of the sacrificial death of Jesus on the cross for our sins and because of his glorious resurrection from the dead on the third day. In other words, through the Son-set and Sonrise of Christ our Lord, we can live this life with the deep inner joy of the living hope of the forgiveness of sins and resurrection life of Christ. For as it says in First Peter 2 First Peter 1: 3-7 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who are being protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you rejoice, even if now for a little while you have had to suffer various trials, so that the genuineness of your faith being more precious than gold that, though perishable, is tested by fire may be found to result in praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. ETCETERA Our Mission Continues

3 Thanks be to God for the risen Son of God! 7 MEMO FROM MERU AND MULALA Here is some news from the Synod-wide Meru Committee Meeting regarding the coffee project. New Vehicle Purchased A new to us vehicle has been purchased for the use of our project coordinators in the Meru Diocese in Tanzania. It was purchased from a dependable source of used vehicles in Japan. The funding has been provided with contributions and loans from generous congregations and individuals. The vehicle purchased is a Suzuki Escudo with 4 wheel drive that will serve the needs of Felix and Nnko by transporting passengers and cargo as needed. The shipping cost from Japan, taxes, and fees are included in the $11, 500 purchase price. THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING THIS NEEDED PURCHASE!! Farmer Training Program History - Mt Meru Coffee Project (MMCP), through our Tanzania Project Coordinators, has organized three training events, one each per processing center. Makumira, Leguruki and Mulala each sent twenty farmers. The results have been very positive with increased yields, better quality product, and more sustainability. - This training was done at Tanzania Coffee Research Institute (TaCRI). The purpose of the training was to provide our farmers with the skills needed to improve production and quality of the coffee they grow. Plan - MMCP, through our Tanzania Project Coordinators, hope to organize four training events this year that will include our new processing center Silk for twenty farmers. - Each training event is a one day program at the TACRI facility near Moshi at the base of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Instructors are TaCRI staff researchers. - The goal of the Mt Meru Coffee Project is to train farmers annually. You Can Help - The approximate costs for three days of training including transportation and meals for twenty farmers is $3,000. We hope to send four groups of farmers to TaCRI for three day training. Can you help with $50 to sponsor one day of training for a farmer? Please let Janet McGinty or Jessica Hodgson know if you are willing/able to help! The Annual MT. MERU COFFEE PROJECT BENEFIT GOLF OUTING will be held at Kettle Hills Golf Course. Sunday, August 20, 2017 You can sign-up to join the FUN to help support families; grow futures; and change lives. 18 Holes start at 1:30 PM 9 Holes start at 3:30 PM Not a golfer? No problem, you can still support the project by sponsoring a golfer, or just come to the dinner for a night out. (Suggested arrival time for dinner is between 4:30-5:00 PM) See Janet McGinty for questions or for more information about this wonderful event. ADORATION EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH 7
