1 CONFIRMATION SUNDAY Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church 10:45 am Sunday, May 7, 2017 Today is the Fourth Sunday of Easter, and it is traditionally observed as Good Shepherd Sunday. As Jesus sheep, we recognize his voice as he speaks in his Word and Sacraments. This year it is also Confirmation Sunday in our congregation. Seventeen of Jesus lambs will publicly proclaim their intent to follow the Good Shepherd all the days of their lives. WELCOME HYMN Rejoice, O Pilgrim Throng 1

2 CONFESSION & ABSOLUTION M: Jesus Christ laid down his life for the sheep, only to take it up again. C: He loves us, and by his blood he set us free from our sins. M: Let us, therefore, approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy, and find help in our time of need. Most merciful God, C: we confess our sins to you. Like wayward sheep, we all have turned away; we have not heeded our Shepherd s voice. In your great mercy forgive us and deliver us from the death we deserve, for the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. M: God, our heavenly Father, has been merciful to us and has give his only Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Therefore, as a called servant of Christ and by his authority, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. All: At last the march shall end; The wearied one shall rest; The pilgrims find their homes at last, Jerusalem the blest. Rejoice! Rejoice! Rejoice, give thanks, and sing! PRAYER OF THE DAY M: Let us pray. O Lord Jesus Christ, you are the Good Shepherd who laid down his life for the sheep. Lead us now to the still waters of your life-giving Word that we may abide in your Father s house forevermore; for you live and reign with him and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C: Amen. 4 APOSTLES CREED C: I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. OFFERING I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontus Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. PRAYERS OF THE CHURCH THE LORD S PRAYER C: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen. HYMN..... 7 ANNOUNCEMENTS NURSERY & KIDS CHURCH Nursery care is offered during the 10:45 am service in Rm 101. Drop off either before the start of worship or after the children s message. Children are welcome to stay in the service too. Quiet Bags and Children s Bulletins are available at the Welcome Center. Kids Church meets in Rms after the Children s message until the end of the 10:45 am service. It is for children K-4th grade. COS APP Our congregation has an app! FINAL DAY OF SUNDAY CHRISTIAN EDUCATION FOR THE SUMMER Sunday, May 21 is the last day of our school year Sunday morning schedule. This means it s the last day for the 9:45 am Sunday School, Toddler Time, MS & HS Bible studies and adult Bible class until after Labor Day. Thank you to the many dedicated teachers and assistants who served so faithfully! VBS REGISTRATION COS Vacation Bible School is 9:30 am - 12:00 pm Monday, June 19 - Thursday, June 22. It s for students entering K-5 in the Fall. The preferred method of registering is online at the church website, cosrock.org. PRESCHOOL ENROLLMENTS Do you have friends, relatives, neighbors, or acquaintances with preschool aged children (2-4 yrs)? Tell them about the outstanding preschool your church operates. COS households are asked to return their pledge forms to church by the end of May. Remember, the goal is 75% or 150 COS households participating. Therefore, all COS member households are being asked to prayerfully consider making an over-and-above their regular offerings pledge to the three year TT&F Capital Campaign. If you have questions but didn t schedule a TT&F Visit, you can attend one of the at church group presentation on Monday, May 8 (7:00 pm) or Sunday, May 21 (11:45 am). 7
