2 THANKFULLY REFORMED AND REFORMING STILL I don t have much room for an article this month, so I will briefly uplift our recent themes of Stewardship and Reformation in combination with our present theme of Thanksgiving. Therefore, I am sharing with you the amazing words of a wonderful Christian hymn by Rev. Carolyn Winfrey Gillette, a Presbyterian pastor and hymn writer: O God, we are a church reformed, A church reforming still: We long to grow in your true Word, And follow more your will. How awesome is your sovereign rule; You reign from heaven above. Yet you knelt down in Jesus Christ, In sacrificial love. In love, you bring your people here And call your church to you, That we may know salvation's joy And serve in all we do. You call us to community; By faith our hearts are stirred. In church, we seek a sacred life, According to your Word. As faithful stewards we find joy; We need no rich display. Lord, teach us all to use with care The gifts you give each day. O Lord our God, where your Church is corrupt, may it be purified by your Word; where your Church is in error, may it be directed by your Word; where your Church is amiss in anything, may it be reformed by your Word; where your Church is right, may it be strengthened by your Word; where your Church is divided, may it be reunited according to your Word. Let us pray: Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we humbly thank you for your goodness to us and to all that you have made. We praise you for your creation, for keeping us and all things in your care, and for all the blessings of life. Above all we bless you for your immeasurable love in redeeming the world by our Lord Jesus Christ, for his sacramental means of grace, and for the hope of glory through him. And, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies that with thankful hearts we praise you, not only with our lips but in our lives, by giving ourselves to your service and by living in your gifts of holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be all worship and praise, now and forever. Amen. By the Grace of God in Christ, Pastor Tim 2 ETCETERA Our Mission Continues
3 CHURCH COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS Here are some of the items discussed at the October Church Council meeting: Pastor Tim suggested that we post somewhere in the church a copy of the charter of Adoration Lutheran Church. Ascension Lutheran is having a joint Lutheran/Catholic Reformation commemoration on October 31st. Due to another Scout project prior to Nick Singleton s, the labyrinth project by Nick will be starting on October 22nd. Buildings & Grounds Hit List was passed out. This list shows what issues and concerns are done and what still needs to be completed. A few neighbors are parking their cars in the church parking lot during the road construction. The youth packed the LWR backpacks. November 15th is the last day for early registration for the youth conference in Texas. Sandy Eigner is looking into some fundraisers to help the students defray their cost. We had a good turnout for our Resurrection Choir at Burt Bunger s funeral. Our Chancel Choir is working on a Christmas Cantata. The budget was discussed for Sean moved we approve the budget with a 1% increase across the board for pastor and staff, and a contingency for an adjustment for the fire system maintenance. Pastor Tim seconded the motion, all in favor, motion carried. For more information on any or all of these items, please check the complete minutes of the meeting posted on the kiosk in the Gathering Space or contact one of your Council representatives. FAITHFUL GIVING IS FAITHFUL LIVING Faithful true to one s promise or word; steady, reliable Faithful giving involves making a plan and living it out. It is an opportunity to express our love for God by giving up something we value-our money-as a sacrifice both to meet the needs of the church and a response to God s generous and abundant love. This faithful giving provides us with an opportunity to share our gifts as a response to God s generous grace. It is a way to live out our calling as a member of Adoration, a Christian, to spread the Word of God. Without your weekly offering, there would be no worship, no community of faith, no opportunities for bible study, no partnerships, not to mention our house of worship and the people who work here. Giving materials for 2018 will be mailed out the week of October 29. Take time to reflect upon God s blessings in your life and how you can express your thankfulness by giving back a portion of what He has provided. Pray about it. Make your plan for faithful giving as part of your faithful living here at Adoration Lutheran Church and bring your commitment to worship on Sunday, November 12. Stewardship Prayer I offer this day to you dear God. Thank you for the blessings you have given me. May I use these gifts to build your kingdom. May my actions be a reflection of your love. May what I do today bring others closer to you. May my words be kind and gentle and may they bring joy to others. Today, help me to give back a portion of what you have given me. I ask this in Jesus name. Amen. ADORATION EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH 3

Our Annual Cookie/ Bake Sale will be held on Saturday, December 16, from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM. We need many volunteers to bake for our sale in order to make it a success. This year we would like to sell cookies, breads, cakes, pies, & candy. If you like to plan ahead, this is the time to start buying butter and nuts then store them in the freezer. We will be packaging on Friday, Dec.15 beginning at 9:00 AM, so please have your items here before that date. This tasty event supports our church and allows others who don t bake the opportunity to purchase a variety of delicious baked goods. Thank you in advance for your support and donations. Our Partners in Ministry Meru Christmas Rummage December 16 Thanksgiving is right around the corner. If you are like me, as soon as Thanksgiving is over you ll be thinking about decorating for Christmas. As you haul out the Christmas decorations, please think about our Christmas Rummage Sale, which benefits our Mulala partnership. If you have any gently used decorations you are willing to part with, the committee would welcome them. The funds from this sale will provide educational scholarships for Mulala students to receive an education equivalent to our high school. You can drop off items and place them in the old youth room just off the fellowship hall beginning November 26. Contact Gloria Becker or Jessica Hodgson if you have any questions. Nkoaranga Hospital Over the past two years, a team of German and US partners helped the hospital assess their needs. One item that rose to the top was an x-ray machine. The German partners raised over $140,000 for the machine, but the hospital s electrical system can t support operation of the machine. Electrical engineers determined that the electrical infrastructure, which they share with the community, is not stable enough. Problems with the electrical system have already damaged their ultrasound machine, so it is no longer in operation. A safe power system is essential to the continued operation of the hospital, not only for the equipment, but also because it could prevent a dangerous electrical fire. At the most recent Synod Partnership meeting, the committee voted to send the down payment of $30,900 USD, funds we currently have, for the electrical infrastructure work. This work will create a stable, independent electrical system for the hospital. The contractor, however, will need full payment, another $12-15,000 USD, upon completion (approximately days). If you are interested in helping fund this critical project, you can send a check to the Greater Milwaukee Synod. Please note Meru x-ray machine in the memo line of your check. ~Janet McGinty, Partnership Committee ETCETERA Our Mission Continues 7
