Linen Ministry pickup for April 29~ Carol Steinacker St. Vincent de Paul - MGC Today, we celebrate Good Shepherd Sunday where we reflect on Jesus love and care for us. This month, through your gifts and contributions to the MGC Food Pantry and South Side Meal Program, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to be Good Shepherds to those in need.

4 From the Desk of Deacon Andy Dear Friends, Once again we continue our discussion of the seven themes of Ecological Responsibility as we look at themes four and five. The 4 th theme: An ethics of solidarity promoting cooperation and a just structure of sharing in the world community corresponds to the Social Teaching: Option for the Poor and the Vulnerable. We are all part of one human family, whatever our national, racial, religious, economic, or ideological differences. Solidarity is the determination to commit ourselves to the common good and it takes into consideration not only the needs of all peoples, but also the protection of the environment in view of that common good. We are all part of God s Creation and we are all called to share the resources and the beauty of our world. We are called to solidarity --- to live in harmony not only with God and with one another, but also with all of Creation. The 5 th theme: An understanding of the universal purpose of created things, which requires equitable use of the earth s resources corresponds to the social teaching related to the dignity of work and the rights of workers. It is clear that God has intended the whole of Creation to sustain the entire human family, including future generations. Pope Paul VI once wrote, The world is given to all, not only to the rich. Expanding on that thought, St. John Paul II wrote, It is manifestly unjust that a privileged few should continue to accumulate excess good, squandering available resources, while masses of people are living in conditions of misery at the very lowest level of subsistence. He adds further that Greed and selfishness are contrary to the order of Creation, an order that is characterized by mutual interdependence. We ll finish this discussion with the last two themes next week. Parish Collaborative is providing A Meal for Guest House Shelter for Men Wednesday, May 23, 2018 ~ 5:00 to 8:00 PM The Guest House currently provides shelter for 86 adult men. It is the largest publicly funded emergency shelter in Milwaukee. We need volunteers to donate or prepare food and or serve for this one night commitment. This is an opportunity to help others as a Parish Collaborative family. If you are interested in donating food or your time, please Linda Swiderski at soundfiddler@aol.com or Tony Burkart at burokart55@aol.com for specifics. Thank you for volunteering/donating for this worth while evening of service. We will be preparing and serving a Brat/Hamburger picnic meal.

5 The Sixth Lecture in our Sunday Speaker Series will be held April 22 nd, :30-2:30 PM at MGC "Evangelization" with the Most Reverend Joseph N. Perry, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Chicago Bishop Joseph Perry attended the Capuchin Seminary of St. Mary, Crown Point, IN and holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in Philosophy and Theology from St. Joseph College, Rensselaer, IN, a Master of Divinity from St. Francis de Sales Major Seminary, Milwaukee, and a Licentiate in Canon Law from Catholic University of America, Washington DC. He has been an instructor of Canon Law Studies at Marquette University School of Law, Sacred Heart School of Theology and St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein, Illinois. Bishop Perry was ordained a priest in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee in 1975 and served as a full time priest from , (Pastor of All Saints Church from ) In 1998 he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop in the Archdiocese of Chicago. Since 2010 Bishop Perry is declared Postulator for the Cause of declared Sainthood of Father Augustus Tolton, the first African-American priest to serve in the US. Senior Ministry Corner There are two upcoming presentations sponsored by the Senior Ministry committee: Thursday, April 26, 10 am Noon, at St. Catherine s (in the gathering area of the church). Cindy Dostal, a registered dietitian for over 40 years, and a teacher at Mt. Mary University, will present Healthy Vitamins for Older Adults. Ms. Dostal will address the proper use of vitamins by seniors. Thursday, May 10, 6 8 pm, at St. Sebastian s. Former governor Marty Schreiber will share lessons from his book My Two Elaines: Learning, Coping, and Surviving as an Alzheimer s Caregiver. A larger crowd is expected for this event, you are asked to call the office at MGC and RSVP. All are invited! Mark your calendars and plan to attend these interesting and worthwhile presentations.
