4 Dear Friends in Christ, From the Desk of Father Reed C. Mungovan, S.D.S. Here we are already starting the second week of the holy season of Lent. The first line in our Gospel today is, Jesus took Peter, John, and James and went up the mountain to pray. While they were praying Jesus was transfigured, his appearance changed and his clothes became a dazzling white. I truly believe that God was sharing this vision with the apostles so that they would be full of hope. I love the first line of our scripture. Jesus brought three of His apostles up a mountain to pray. As simple as that! During the prayer something dazzling happened. During the walk up the mountain, I imagine nothing spectacular happened. Isn t this what happens in our lives too. Most of the time we are climbing mountains, most of the time we are going about our business and God is inviting us to see Him in the ordinary. I imagine Jesus and His apostles climbing the mountain and enjoying each others company. I imagine that they enjoyed the color of the trees and may have even see some wildlife. This Lent, let us strive to see God in the ordinary and in the extraordinary. May God richly bless you, Fr. Reed Christopher Mungovan, SDS Holy Mary, Mother of Good Counsel, pray for us. CRS RICE BOWL WEEK 2 MARCH Our CRS Rice Bowl s Lenten Journey begins it s second week with the story of Annet who, at the age of 16, is raising her 3 younger siblings as their parents died 4 years ago. Annet and her siblings became refugees when they fled their home in South Sudan because of the extreme violence. Now the family is living in Bibi Bidi, Uganda, one of the world s largest refugee settlements. While Annet is happy to be safe from violence, life in Uganda is difficult. To give some stability and security to these refugees, CRS is building small houses. Shelter is necessary for life and when families are forced to migrate out of their home country, finding safe shelter is uncertain. As you progress through this week, keep in mind the principle of Catholic Social Teaching: Option for the Poor & Vulnerable. Jesus tells us to give care to those who are most in need. It is our Christian duty to stand up for those who are unheard and to help the poorest people. 5 Close-Knit Friends Friday, March 10am Mother of Good Counsel Parish Living Room Join us as we knit, crochet and quilt. Close-Knit friends began first with making prayer shawls, hats and mittens. We then added making afghans for babies that are baptized at MGC and prayer patches for family, friends, and parishioners. Our latest addition is our cute pocket pals are that are shared with youngsters suffering through trauma at Kyle s Corner and Saint A. We meet the 4th Friday of every month in the parish living room to share our work and friendships. Yarn can be donated at any time at the parish office. Worship News and Views MGC has a piano in the sanctuary that is no longer in use, and will be sold in order to expand the choir area. The worship environment is very hard on wooden instruments and the piano is succumbing to the dry and ever-changing atmosphere. It is playable, however it will need tuning (which might not hold too long) and some possible repairs. The piano will be sold as is and go to the highest bidder. It will need to be moved at the buyer s expense. Cuando oraban, el rostro de Jesús cambio de aspecto y sus vestiduras se hicieron blancas y relampagueantes. En nuestras vidas de vez en cuando hay algo espectacular que ocurre. Pero, la mayoría del tiempo, vivimos una vida ordinaria. Cristo es nuestra esperanza y compañero en los tiempos espectaculares y ordinarios. Esta Cuaresma es un tiempo para acercarnos más y más a Jesús, nuestra esperanza. 8 Noticias de Liturgia y Puntos de Vista Madre del Buen Consejo tiene un piano en el área del altar que no esta en uso y sera vendido para poder expander el área del coro. El ambiente en el área del altar es brusco para instrumentos de madera. El piano está siendo afectado por el ambiente seco y el ambiente que constantemente está cambiando. El piano aún está en buenas condiciones, pero será necesario entonarlo y hacerle algunas reparaciones. El piano será vendido tal como está, al que ofrezca más. La persona que lo compre tendrá que pagar por removerlo. Para más información o para probar el piano favor de comunicarse con Linda, directora de música, después de misa, o mandar un correo electrónico al: ljuly@mgcparish.org También pueden llamar al: x103 MEDITACIÓN EVANGÉLICO - ALENTAR ENTENDIMIENTO MÁS PROFUNDO DE LA ESCRITURA (Gospel Meditation) 17 de marzo de º Domingo de la Cuaresma En las lecturas de hoy se refleja la tendencia que el ser humano experimenta cada día de su vida. Vive en una constante tensión de quedarse o irse. Por ejemplo; si estamos en un lugar tranquilo, donde se respira paz y armonía se suele decir "Me gustaría quedarme aquí para siempre". En cambio, si se sufre de alguna enfermedad grave, o muere un ser querido y se sume en el dolor se comenta, "Deseo salir de esto cuanto antes". Se vive así, quedándose y yéndose; dos polos opuestos. En este Evangelio, quedarse e irse esta junto en la vida del discípulo. Pedro, Santiago y Juan, fueron con Jesús al monte para hacer oración. Mientras oraba, Jesús se transfiguro y su ropa se volvió de una blancura fulgurante. El Evangelio nos narra que Moisés y Elías conversaban con él. En ese instante, Pedro y sus compañeros despertaron y ante tanta belleza, Pedro le propone a Jesús lo siguiente: "Maestro, qué bueno que estemos aquí! Levantemos tres chozas: una para ti, otra para Moisés y otra para Elías." (Lucas 9:33). Sin duda, Pedro quería quedarse, no deseaba bajar---era difícil para el irse de ese lugar. Pasa ahora lo mismo; la jornada del discípulo es saber estar en gloria y saber sufrir para poder resucitar. Cómo saberlo? Cómo distinguirlo? Buscando a Dios, estando alerta siempre, aprendiendo en el silencio de la oración sus deseos. Estar, o irse: son dos contradicciones que los seguidores de Jesús viven. El reto es fuerte, la voz de Dios resuena en el Evangelio: "Este es mi Hijo, mi Elegido; escúchenlo." (Lucas 9:35). Esta semana solo se trata de escuchar! Mientras oraba, su rostro cambió de aspecto y sus vestiduras se hicieron blancas y relampagueantes. De pronto aparecieron conversando con él dos personajes, rodeados de esplendor: eran Moisés y Elías.
