Sunday July 31 Tuesday, August 2 6:00-8:00 p.m. Please note: VBS is only 3 days this year! Kids will explore what it means to follow Jesus through dark times. Through Bible-learning activities, song, games, snacks and lots of fun, children ages 3 to 5th grade will learn that God is with all of us, all of the time! But it was THE divisive question for the early church. Peter (and others) have a real struggle with accepting people like...well...us. 3 PAGE 3 April Celebrations Hosted another wonderful Music Among Friends event for our neighborhood. Recalled and celebrated the lives of Denise Paitel, Loretta Peterson, Betty Martinez and Grace Petty. Continued Adult Education classes. Served as a polling location on election day. UMW circles held their monthly gatherings. Jim Kellerman, Karen Kendall, Mark & Inez Gulbrandson, and John and Sue Gilman prepared and served the N.E.W. Community Shelter meal to 170 people. UMW held a retreat. Enjoyed a Ring a story presentation on Jonah by the Hand Bell Choir Enjoyed a cantata on the Lord s Prayer, presented by the Chancel Choir. A variety of ministries continued to collect items in support of Bellin, Salvation Army & Ecumenical Partnership for Housing needs. Prayer Shawl Ministry continued to comfort people in powerful ways. Care Team continued to bring joy and comfort to those unable to join us in worship, as well as serving them Communion. Jail team took books from Brown County Library to the jail along with Bibles every Tuesday. We extended our beautiful building to scouts, TOPS, EPH, & Classical Conversations, and Mather Heights Neighborhood Association. We need clothes detergent! Every month, on the first Sunday of the month, the Mission team asks that we bring an item for the Salvation Army pantry. May s item is clothes detergent! Please help those in need in the Green bay area. There will be bins at either entrance to the Sanctuary. Thank you. June June 12 June 18 Mark your calendars: Wisconsin Annual Conference UMW Sunday UMW Craft Day July 31-Aug. 2 Cave Quest VBS News from EPH Celebration Dinner Interested in learning more about EPH while engaging in dialogue with friends and sampling an array of delicious hors d oeuvres? Please join us on Monday, May 2nd as we share our accomplishments and vision for the future. Our event will be held at the St. Norbert Bemis Center, beginning at 5:30. Reservations, along with $25 per person to cover our costs, may be mailed to EPH, PO Box 524, Green Bay, WI Just mark on your envelope or check, Celebration Dinner. Family update Recently exiting one of our homes was a grandmother and her preschool granddaughter. During her stay she completed nutrition class, budget counseling, Rent-Smart, and inhome parenting support. Grandmother passed her driver s license and progressed from part-time to full-time employment. She felt very supported and was thankful for the care provided through our EPH/TSA partnership. Our flexibility in how we define a family is one of the ways we show our support, care, and commitment to children in poverty. Green Thumb Not Necessary! Please consider joining me in caring for St. Paul s Memory Garden this season. You do not need a deep knowledge of plants, just a willingness to help out with watering when dry, dead heading spent plants, and keeping the benches and brick clean of debris. 6 Reflections PAGE 5 Watch for it! A Wall of Thanks We ARE the Church.. Together! Many of us can hum that little tune that we often sing during children s time in our worship services. I am the church! You are the church! We are the church together! For me, the most important reminder comes in the first verse: The church is not a building, the church is not a steeple, the church is not a resting place, the church is a people. UMH#558 We, as a community of faith, could meet in the most gorgeous building, surrounded by the most beautiful stained glass we could have the latest social media technology and the finest looking parking lot in town, but to quote our namesake, the Apostle Paul If we have not love, we are nothing. Following Christ is a 24/7 calling. And you, as followers of Christ, are faithful in your Christian love in so many ways! And often times, there are people who want to express their gratitude by saying thanks to you for your love and service.. so they send a note of gratitude to our church office. Sometimes these notes are from individuals who have been touched by your ministry. Others are organizations who are grateful for your support of time, talent and resources. We, as staff members, want to share their gratitude with you in a better way. There just are way too many notes to put in newsletter. Which is a good thing! We will be creating a wall of thanks in our entryway for the posting of notes that come our way. So I hope that you will take time to look at the ways that you are the church. Together!
