If you need to contact the staff during the week, please reach out during these times. There may be occasions where Rev. Diane or other staff pass through the building outside of these hours, but there will not be someone staffing the phones or opening the church during non-office times. Special events like weddings or funerals may dictate a different schedule. Rev. Diane s emergency numbers will continue to be made available. For some real exciting staff news, see page 4. 6 Reflections Buried. My son called me from Colorado. How bad is it? he asked. We are buried, I said Just buried. Of course I am speaking of our recent snowstorm that literally buried us under 2 feet of snow, smack dab in the middle of the emerging spring flowers. As I reflect on it, being buried may have taught us a few lessons. After all, it is a great post-easter image to contemplate isn t it? What does life, after being buried, look like? Being buried tended to change our perspective. I think that many of us may have spent a lot more time just staring out the window that weekend that we had in a long time. Marveling at the power of the natural world. Noticing whether our neighbors were moving and their lights still on. Being buried tended to change our priorities. For days, all we thought about was how to help ourselves and others survive! How to get out the door, out the driveway, down the street. How to feed the birds and care for the pets. Being buried tended to remind us how much we really need each other. None of us can navigate this world all on our own. Being buried taught some of us how much we need the help of others And being buried taught others of us how much we have to give others. I was particularly inspired by two young men interviewed on one TV station saying that they had been out all day just wandering around to see who needed help with anything! They had pushed cars, shoveled, carried a child to a neighbors house a whole list of things. We both have strong backs so we decided to put them to use to help others, they said. So what did you learn from being buried? Anything new? ~Rev Diane From the Burial service in our UM Book of Worship: In the midst of life, we are in death; From whom can we seek help? Our help is in the name of the Lord Who made heaven and earth. God who raised Christ from the dead Will give life to your mortal bodies also Through the Spirit that dwells in you.
