1 The 4th Sunday in Ordinary Time January 31st, 2016 THE GREAT HYMN TO LOVE It is doubtful that Saint Paul, when he sat down to write what we now know as the thirteenth chapter of First Corinthians, knew that he was penning what was to become one of the keystones of Christian ethics. In this brief passage, he set down ideals about love that have held fast through the centuries. Sometimes we may think that because these are ideals to which we aspire, we are excused from them in our daily living. But what Paul was writing was a letter to his friends, providing them with some sound advice about what it meant and still means to live in love, day by day, as a follower of Christ. We find in his words to his friends a broadening of the great commands of Jesus to love God and neighbor. Cathedral Sunday Bishop Martin Amos has designated the 2nd Sunday in February (February 14th this year) as Cathedral Sunday, an event recognizing Sacred Heart Cathedral as the Mother Church of our diocese! Dedicated November 14th, 1891, this beautiful church deserves the recognition, support, and monetary benefits to preserve its spiritual and architectural integrity. Chili Supper with the Iowa Women s Basketball Team We haven t forgotten about our annual Chili Supper! Hopefully, we can have it on Sunday, February 21st. That is their last Sunday home game, but they do not have a starting time from the Big 10 Network. As soon as they know, we will get a call and will let you know. Let s hope that February 21st will be an early afternoon start!

4 Picture Directory Believe it or not, it has been 6 years since our last Picture Directory. So, it is time for another! Photos will be taken on April 19th-23rd and May 18th-21st. We are giving you early notice, so you can be prepared. This year, you will be able to register online. More information will be coming in the next few weeks.
