3 June 15, 2014 St. Brigid Church, Meadville, PA Page Three CORPUS CHRISTI ~ JUNE 22ND In celebration of the Feast of The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, the Catholic churches of Meadville will be processing with the Most Holy Sacrament SUNDAY, June 22nd. On Wednesday, June 18th, Happy Birthday to Father Johnathan Schmolt The Emmaus Prayer ~ June Lord Jesus, hear our prayer for the spiritual renewal of priests. We praise you for giving their ministry to the Church. In these days, renew them with the gifts of your Spirit. You once opened the Scriptures to the disciples on the road to Emmaus. Now renew your ordained ministers with the truth and power of your Word. In Eucharist, you gave the Emmaus disciples renewed life and hope. Nourish priests with your own Body & Blood. Help them to imitate in their lives the death & resurrection they celebrate at your altar. Give priests enthusiasm for the Gospel, zeal for the salvation of all, courage in leadership, humility in service, fellowship with one another & with all their brothers & sisters in You. For you love them, Lord Jesus, & we love and pray for them in Your Name. Amen. 4TH ANNUAL ITALIAN FESTIVAL will be held on Sat., June 28th from NOON - 10 PM at the Italian Civic Club, Water St., Meadville. Proceeds benefit St. Mary, ST. BRIGID, St. Agatha, & the ARC of Crawford Cty. The Festival is a family affair with kids' games, adult games, music, vendors, and FOOD! Lots of help is needed! Sign-up sheets are located at the church entrances. (3 hour shifts. Get a group of friends to work with you!) Donations of cookies are needed, preferably Italian - it is an Italian Festival after all! Corpus Christi Procession ~ we will begin at St. Agatha following the 11:30 am Mass. The procession will then proceed to St. Brigid for Adoration and Benediction about 12:20 pm. Then parishioners from Ss. Agatha & Brigid will process to Saint Mary of Grace Church for our final Benediction and a light reception. All parish organizations are encouraged to carry banners. 4 Page Four St. Brigid Church, Meadville, Pennsylvania June 15, 2014 MOST HOLY TRINITY TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The liturgy seems reluctant to return to Ordinary Time from the joys of Easter, and so the festivities extend to today s celebration of the mystery of God s relationship to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Gospel today centers the question of our relationship with God in the struggle of Nathaniel to believe that it is possible to experience rebirth in the Spirit. The answer of Jesus is that God s response to the messes of this world is the mystery of saving love in Jesus Christ and the outpouring of an empowering Spirit. Western church architecture often tops a church building with a spire, indicating humanity s reach to a transcendent God. The Eastern Church responds with onionshaped domes, indicating the Spirit s being poured down upon humanity precisely at this locale, the gathering of the faithful for the Divine Liturgy. This familiar design encodes a great mystery: here, at the Lord s table, we experience the outpouring of the Spirit for the life of the world. Nathaniel came to Jesus by night, since he was still working out the meaning of his life. A life attuned to the inner life of the Trinity must always be given to the light of day. Rev. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL The Mighty Kingdom~Vacation Bible School 2014 The Meadville Deanery is celebrating our 10th annual Catholic Christian VBS! This year the location will be at the St. Brigid Social Hall on July 14th-18th, 9 am-noon for kids entering kindergarten through sixth grade. We will enjoy Bible stories, amazing crafts, fun games, tasty snacks and incredible music. Registration deadline is Sunday, July 6th. If you would like to donate, we are collecting the following items: napkins, 5 oz cups or larger, GermX, baby wipes, paper towels, plastic spoons, goldfish crackers, graham crackers, pretzel stix/rods, drink boxes, small bottles of water, regular Size marshmallows, teddy grahams, Swedish fish and gummy bears. Our next crew meeting is on Tuesday, June 17th at 6 pm in Room 2 at St. Brigid. We are in need of adult and teen helpers. Come join in the fun! "Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power." Ephesians 6: Catechists The Office of Evangelization and Faith Formation is prayerfully seeking catechists to teach the Catholic Christian faith to the youth of the Meadville area. All prior catechists will be contacted to invite them to join this new venture as we combine to form one religious education program.
