All five screenings take just minutes to complete. Taize Prayer Around the Cross will be held on Friday, December 13 at 7:00pm at Our Lady Queen of the Americas Church in Conneaut Lake. Taize prayer is an ecumenical, Christian prayer which incorporates simple repetitive songs, scripture readings, prayer and silence. This is an opportunity during these hectic weeks before Christmas to take time for inner reflection allowing the mystery of God to become tangible through the beauty of simplicity. A few words sung over and over again reinforce the meditative quality of prayer. They express a basic reality of faith that can quickly be grasped by the intellect, and that gradually penetrates the whole being. Please join us for an hour of quiet meditation and reflection this Friday evening. Santa s Workshop at Seton School Dec 11. Children can shop for family and friends. Items are 50 up to $10. Gifts will be wrapped for the children to bring home. Your Help is Needed! We will be cleaning the church on Tuesday, Dec 17 at 6:30 PM. Boy Scout Troop 209 will be working on the main portion, but many hands make light work! So please come and lend your hands to this project. Bring a bucket and rags if you can, and we will have the church looking great for all of our Christmas services! Advent Holy Hours of Adoration began on Sunday, Dec.1st from 2:00 to 3:00 at St. Agatha Church, and will continue through all the Sundays of Advent. The blessing of the creche in Diamond Park will take place TODAY, December 8 at 1:00 p.m. Fr. Marc Solomon will preside. Now is the time to show public support for our Christian beliefs and traditions. There will be hymns and praise in preparation for the birth of Jesus the Christ, our Lord and Savior. The ceremony will include Scripture reading, prayers, placing of infant in the manger and caroling. Please join us in this special Advent tradition sponsored by The Catholic Federation of Crawford County.

4 Page Four St. Brigid Church, Meadville, Pennsylvania December 8, nd Sunday of Advent Reflecting on God s Word As she was stringing her Christmas lights Paula pondered the unsightly stump in her yard. Last spring she had noticed that her pretty red bush that was usually covered with tiny white flowers wasn t! Then the leaves had come slowly and never reached their normal size. Within a few weeks they were turning brown and falling off the bush. It must be dead, she had thought. Perhaps the winter had been too hard on it. She hated to see it go, but late in September Paula found her ax and her courage, and chopped the bush down to a stump. She was about to lay the ax to the root when her neighbor stopped her. Leave the stump through next summer. You never know. New healthy shoots can sprout from stumps that appear to be dead. As long as the roots are alive, there s hope. If there was hope for that stump, Paula thought, maybe there was hope for her seemingly fruitless life as well. Again this week one of the O Antiphons expresses the spirit of the Advent scriptures. We pray, Come, Flower of Jesse s stem, echoing Isaiah s spirit of hopeful expectation that a Messiah would sprout forth and flower from the seemingly dead stump of Jesse s family tree, inaugurating God s kingdom of justice and peace. We pray, Sign for all peoples, conveying Paul s message that Jesus Christ showed God s faithfulness to the hopes of the patriarchs as well as mercy to the Gentiles. We pray, Let nothing keep you from coming to our aid, reflecting John the Baptist s confidence that the Messiah and his kingdom are indeed at hand. Presence for Christmas is scheduled for December 4 th, 11 th, and 18 th at 7:00 pm at Saint George Church in Erie, PA. Monsignor Richard Mayer, retired pastor of Saint George Parish, will be the homilist and Monsignor William Biebel, retired pastor of Saint Peter Cathedral, will be presiding over the adoration. The night consists of live praise music led by Daniel Cabanillas and the Made2Worship Band, a lay witness each week, adoration/ benediction/exposition, inspirational message led by Msgr. Mayer, and fellowship to follow. Confessions will start at 7:00 pm and last until 8:45 pm. All donations will go towards the #AJOFoundation.
