Wow! Look at these IQ s, she said to herself. What a terrific class. She promptly determined to work harder with this class than with any other she ever had. Throughout the year she came up with innovative lessons that she thought would challenge the students, because she didn t want them to get bored with work that was too easy. Her plan worked! The class outperformed all the other classes she taught the usual way. Then during the last quarter of the year she discovered what those numbers after the students name really were: their locker numbers. GRACE CUPBOARD PLEASE JOIN US FOR A FOOD CAUSE Sunday, November 10th and Sunday, November 17th, there will be a food drive to restock our very own Grace Cupboard as well as the Community Ministry food bank. All of you have been so great in the past helping to keep this ministry alive. We would like you to bring your items up to the steps in front of the Communion Table on Sunday morning, November 17th. Thom will provide a blessing for our gifts. We encourage everyone to bring either food items or donate towards King Soopers gift cards. If you would like to donate cash, we will purchase the gift cards on your behalf. Pastor Thom will use those cards, as well as the food, for the families that we help. We would also appreciate everyone checking the expiration dates on their items. Any items that we cannot fit in our pantry will be donated to Community Ministry. The Lord is really at work! You may have seen the letter I recently sent. In it I wrote about many of these wonderful things. In partnering with God we are changing lives. We are saving souls and growing disciples, healing hurts and filling needs, and glorifying God in all we do. It s a great time to be part of HPCC! There are three things that make great ministry happen in any church. 1. People pray. 2. People do ministry. 3. People give generously. All three of these things must happen for a church to be healthy, strong and growing. Losing any of the three makes a church unbalanced and unhealthy. I ve known churches that had various combinations of two out of the three, and some that only had one. Things just didn t work well for them. There was frustration. There were great ideas without completion. There were hopes, but no fulfillment. We ve got all three! That s why good things are happening. Ministry does not happen without effective, loving, faith-filled giving. That is why we have a Stewardship Campaign each year. We want to give people a chance to join in ministry through their offerings, tithes and pledges. We are asking you to make a pledge, a commitment, a promise for what you feel you can give to the Lord in 2014 for his work through Harvey Park Christian Church. We will base the financing for our ministries in 2014 on the total of our pledges and known offerings. Last week I preached about how Barnabas helps us see giving as a cheerful, willing, faith-filled opportunity. Barnabas giving changed him into a person God used for great things. As we each step out in faith through our 2014 offerings, what will the Lord help each of us to become? What will our church become? What will happen in the lives of the people we reach out to in ministry? All of this will be determined by our faithfulness in prayer, ministry and giving. Let s give big! Let s pray big! Let s minister big! We ve got a big God. Let s do big things with him! In Christ, Thom

The Lord is growing us. But it is not just about numbers. The main reason for Sunday school is to help you grow stronger as a Christian. As we each grow stronger and mature in Christ our church will be stronger, healthier and will grow in many ways, including numerically. Sunday school is not just for kids. Every Christian, no matter what their age, needs to continue growing in Christ. So pick a class, bring your family, friends and neighbors and come to Sunday school!
