If you need a change in your automatic withdrawal amount, wish to begin a new automatic pledge or need to terminate an automatic withdrawal, please contact Julie in the church office for the needed form and instructions. The Uhlmans are in a major construction phase of two machine sheds and feel it would be better not to have the it this year. The next Friends Over 60 dinner will be on October 8 th in the home of Ron and Karen Kemp at 33 Emerald Court in Morton starting at 6:00 p.m. Karen and Ron will provide the meal. That is lots of people to see the Churches of Morton represented in the parade. Special thanks go to the Gingerich family for letting us use their building and trailer to build and store it until parade time and to Sharyl Nuske for letting us use her truck to pull the float. If You Can t Go You Can Help The Western Association Disaster Ministry Team is hosting a mission trip to Little Rock, AR, to the Church World Service Disaster Center and Heifer International Ranch

The purpose is to work in the Disaster Service Center assembling, checking, and packaging disaster supply kits for shipment to places of need.

4 If You Can t Go You Can Help The Western Association Disaster Ministry Team is hosting a mission trip to Little Rock, AR, to the Church World Service Disaster Center and Heifer International Ranch headquarters. The trip will be in November with Sharon Farney and Donna Fuehring attending. The purpose is to work in the Disaster Service Center assembling, checking, and packaging disaster supply kits for shipment to places of need. Our congregation can help by collecting items to donate to these disaster kits, or you can complete an entire kit by yourself. Donations can be placed in the tub in the foyer labeled mission trip by Oct. 15. See Sharon or Donna for a complete list of items needed. Cash donations will also be accepted. You can also help by sewing a tote bag or knitting an infant sweater. Simple patterns for each will be provided. This is a great way to use up your fabric remnants and extra yarn. More information about this trip can be found at Please help Sharon and Donna with this project. September Mission Giving Our Church s Wider Mission Lifelink Bensonville Southside Mission Habitat for Humanity Family Assistance History and Mission of CUCC On Thursday evening, October 22 from 7-8:30 PM, Pastor Jeff will lead a one time session on the History and Mission of CUCC. This is designed for those who are already members of the congregation, but those non-members wishing to learn more about this topic are welcome to attend. New Members and Friends On the third Sunday of October (10/18) New Friends of CUCC are welcome to join others in meeting with Pastor Jeff in his office at 10:30 AM. We will get to know one another better, and learn a little about CUCC and the wider UCC. After taking a break for November and December, the cycle of three sessions which can be joined in at any point will continue on January 17, 2016.

5 It has been said that forgiveness is the gift you give yourself. Emotionally and spiritually healthy people know this. It takes work backbreaking, soul-destroying work to hold onto anger and resentments, whether they are aimed outward toward others or inward toward oneself. I wonder if Jesus had the burdensome effects of unforgiveness in mind when he taught his followers to take his yoke upon themselves instead. [T]he yoke I will give you is easy, and the load I will put on you is light, (Matt. 11:30) he said. Of course he says it no less to we who make up the church today. Forgiving someone, whether ourselves or another person or group of people, does not mean that there are not consequences for whatever caused us to hold the grudge in the first place. When something we have said negatively affects our relationship with God, with ourselves or with others, harm has been done. There is damage. There are scars. Consequences have already happened for us. In some cases more consequences social or even legal -- may unfold over time. Not recognizing this trajectory of sin in our own lives may be one of the main things that can make us unwilling to forgive. And let us make no mistake: forgiveness is always an option. As human beings created in God s image we have everything within us which will allow us to experience the beauty and peace of extending forgiveness to another person, or to ourselves, or even (if we are fully honest) to God. People often say, I can t forgive, when what they should really say is I won t forgive. I choose not to do so because I enjoy carrying this resentment and pain with me wherever I go. Admittedly, over the course of a lifetime, it is possible that this choice can become permanent. Not having never exercised their soul by extending mercy and forgiveness inward or outward, a person becomes spiritually and emotionally hard, perhaps even to the point of becoming incapable of practicing forgiveness. Yet, I think that we can honestly say that such a tragic outcome was not the fault of God or others, but rather the accumulated results of the perpetual unwillingness to forgive. In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus delivers his most direct teaching about forgiveness. If you forgive others the wrongs they have done to you, your Father in heaven will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive the wrongs you have done (Matt. 6:14-15). This illustrates the point that those unwilling to extend forgiveness to themselves and others are simply incapable of receiving the forgiveness of God. Our Creator forever extends forgiveness, grace and mercy toward us, but if we cannot reach out and catch hold of it, we have no one to blame but ourselves. So be easy on yourself. Be easy on others. Extend forgiveness. Receive mercy. Today is never too late. Now is always the right time. Yours in Christ, Pastor Jeff
