1 From the Student Minister s Desk I can t believe that it has already been 9 months since I arrived at Knox United. I remember being at Atlantic School of Theology in Halifax last summer and having a conference phone call with some members of Council I m not even sure at the time if I realised that it was a formal interview. They d been told by Paul Miller, from Presbytery, that there was a student in Halifax that might be good fit and I d been told that there was a church in Ayr that I might be suited for. I am sure that both Council and I were a little unsure what to expect but Paul was right. Or rather God was right! Since this was a church that I had not even applied to for a job, I believe very much that it was God at the steering wheel. I went to Halifax last year not knowing where I would be working, but left with a sense of certainty that Knox is where I was supposed to be. 11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11 Thankyou to everybody for making my first year with you so full of learning, love, and joy. You have truly embraced becoming a learning site. As I head off again today to the East Coast, I am filled with excitement about all the things that I will be learning, and will be able to share with you on my return. I will be taking three intense courses this summer: 1. The Reconciliation Journey, which examines ways to handle conflict and promote forgiveness and healing. 2. Indigenous Culture, History, and Contemporary Issues. 3. Christian Doctrine and The Old Testament It is very intense studying, with each 15-week course taught over a two-week period; classes are all morning, and we have the afternoon to do assignments that are often due the next day. The college is by the ocean, so there is the opportunity for a beautiful evening walk each day. I promise that I will keep in contact with you I will continue to do a message in the weekly Friday File and send you pictures. Remember, I am also just an away, so please send me updates on how you are all doing (gfricker@rogers.com). I will also enjoy reading your notes to me each day; thankyou for taking the time to do all of those - it will truly help me feel more connected to you as my church family. Stay safe my friends. Remember to take time this summer to rest and let God carry your burdens; to reflect on God s presence wherever you are, and to be renewed in your faith. 3 Page 3 THE COUNCIL CORNER Our Father in heaven, that is, God the Father, is love, grace, compassion, mercy, creator, power, refuge, strength, justice, light, mystery, guide, protection, healer, wisdom, holiness, spirit and I know you can give many, many more names to refer to God. In fact, God is so mighty that adjectives seem too diminutive; only another noun will do as a descriptive replacement as all the above do so well. I may be safe in saying, the one we use most and relate to best is "Father". Perhaps it's because everyone has repeated so many times The Lord's Prayer beginning, "Our Father which art in heaven..." and also because we know God is Jesus' Father. As we celebrate Father's Day this Sunday, think about and honour the father in your life, the father in your children's lives or those who are grandfathers and great-grandfathers. Honour them for their examples of unconditional love, strength and guidance. Maybe you will remember the one who loved and protected so much he set rather strict curfews for you as a teenager. Maybe you will remember his strength as he lifted you on his shoulders as a toddler. Maybe you will remember the firm guidance as you first learned to drive a car down a gravelly back road. As you buy meaningful gifts, plan barbecues or special outings make lasting memories and set an example of gratitude. But - never forget to first honour your Father in heaven with prayer and worship - our creator who made all things possible. Happy Father's Day, Dads!! Yours in Christ, Betty Butcher, Council Chair

Donations of $20 can still be made to purchase a copy for the church in memory of someone special or from yourself.

5 Page 5 More Voices update We are on our way to accomplishing the purchase 50 copies. A Jazz Vespers and a Café were held and $295 was raised (14+ books). Three books have been purchased as memorials so far. Donations of $20 can still be made to purchase a copy for the church in memory of someone special or from yourself. An inscription will be place inside the book. Donations should be placed in an envelope, marked for More Voices and submitted to the Church office. Please include the name(s) of who the book is being donated in memory of and from who. A Fund has been set up for this purchase and donations receive a tax receipt. CHURCH IN ACTION CAMBRIDGE SELF-HELP FOOD BANK Items should be placed in the boxes provided under the coat rack outside of the Fellowship Hall. Items are weighed by Laura Johnson before they are put in the cupboard. Suggestions for JUNE Condiments (Ketchup, Mustard, Relish, Mayo) The Upper Room Daily Devotionals for July & August have arrived and are available in the Communications Nook, which is located in the hallway on the way up to the Sanctuary on the right hand side. They are free and brought to you by the Communications Team. Enjoy. Be sure to take one with you on your vacation for a leisurely read.

Marillac Place provides a safe home for women between the ages of sixteen and twenty-five who are pregnant or who have a child, or who are attempting to regain care of their child.

Tax receipts will be issued and all the proceeds from the campaign go directly to the operations of Marillac Place and have an immediate impact on their residents and their infants. Marillac Place provides a safe home for women between the ages of sixteen and twenty-five who are pregnant or who have a child, or who are attempting to regain care of their child. Mothers who come to Marillac Place receive 24 hour guidance and support, continue their education and are enabled with the life-skills they need to care for themselves and their child. Marillac Place is located in Kitchener and can accommodate 10 mothers and 11 children up to 24 months of age. Residency is permitted for up to 12 months. We provide chances for brighter futures to mother-led families, helping them to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty. Baby Bottles are available at the back of the sanctuary. Filled bottles (with change or a cheque) can be placed on the offering plate or dropped off to the church office.! REMINDER! Please remember to bring in all baby bottles this Sunday, June 18th.

Be at the St. Jacob s Market train depot by 1:40 p.m. for a departure time of 2:00 p.m. returning at 4:00. We will try to arrange for car pooling.
