1 HEADING TO HALIFAX As many of you know, Gail will be heading off to Halifax to the Atlantic School of theology to continue her studies. Her last worship service is this coming Sunday, June 10th. We would like to thank you for all you have done for Knox over the past year. Gail, as you head out on your journey, we wish you safe travels, continued success in your studies, great fun and fellowship with your ministry colleagues. And, we will be happy to welcome you back here as we share the love of Christ at our worship Service in the Park on Sunday, August 15th. Sometimes the year slips by and we wonder where all the time has gone and what have we accomplished during that time period. Sometimes we even wonder what God has planned for us here in this very place of worship. Perhaps these words written by Roy Lessin will put everything in perspective and help each one of us to know tht we are God s servants, in God s place at God s perfect timing. Just think You re here Not by chance, but By God s choosing. His hand FORMED you And made you The person you are. He compares you To no one else You are one of a kind. You lack nothing that His GRACE Can t give you. He has allowed you To be here at this time In history to fulfill His special PURPOSE For this generation. You are God s servant In God s place At God s perfect time! Until you return, be safe in God s loving arms while you are down by the seaside! 2 COUNCIL CORNER Page 2 As dictated by our constitution, I am announcing a congregation meeting for Sunday, June 10, 2018 after service regarding revisions to the constitution. The main purpose of this revision is to change from our current board structure to the streamline board structure as discussed at the last AGM. On Sunday, I made the first of two announcements, as required in our constitution, prior to a congregational meeting being called. At the last AGM, Knox moving to the Streamline Board Structure was discussed. This means moving away from the current Council structure containing stewards representing various committees. The current structure hasn t always been successful as the stewards found it difficult to obtain information from the committees and the committees found it difficult getting information on Council direction. The Streamline Board will rename committees to teams and the teams (a representative not necessarily the chair of the team) will be meeting at least 3 times a year to review past present and future endeavours of each team. Since a representative of each team will be present, each team will be able to hear what other teams have done and are going to do which helps avoid duplication or overlap of events. The Streamline Board will consist of Chair, Vice Chair, Past Chair, Chair of M&P, Member of Board of Trustees, Board Secretary, Treasurer and the Minister and/or Pastoral Charge Supervisor (in place of the minister or in addition to if a student minister). This board actually reduces the number of members, by removing the stewards but still communicating with the teams by meeting regularly. Knox has been having a challenging time increasing membership which results in a limited number of volunteers. Many of our volunteers have been on their committees well beyond the time as outlined in the constitution and some are on multiple committees. This is fine as many volunteers enjoy working with those on their team, but volunteers need some down time to re-energize. The intention of the new structure is to free up some volunteers and make it easier on teams to communicate with Council and each other. Lastly, as requested at the AGM, the Terms of Reference has been reviewed by each team and is included in the revised constitution and available to the Streamline board. This allows the Streamline Board to effectively ensure teams are acting within their mandate. Gail has mentioned that the congregational meeting will not take long and a copy of the revised constitution is attached to the Friday File and available upon request. And if you have already done that, invite others (family, friends, neighbours) LOOKING AHEAD CHURCH IN ACTION Baby bottle campaign There is only one week left to collect your change! Bottles need to be returned on Sunday, June 17th (Father s Day). CHURCH IN ACTION CAMBRIDGE SELF-HELP FOOD BANK Items should be placed in the boxes provided under the coat rack outside of the Fellowship Hall. 4 Page 4 OUTREACH PROJECTS KIDZ BIBLE CAMP 2018 Maker Fun Factory. July :00-11:45 at Calvary church. Volunteers are needed for games, crafts and group leaders. This is an excellent opportunity to earn volunteer hours. Even a commitment of 1 or 2 days would be appreciated. We always need at least 25 volunteers to run the camp each year. Thank you to the following volunteers from Knox, that is very helpful: Heather Smith who will be doing crafts Tues/Wed/Thursday mornings for the 3 ECE groups, Janet Millward who will be teaching the Bible Story Thursday & Friday for the Gr. 1-6 group. Knox is scheduled to provide & serve snack on Wednesday. I have rounded up youth for group leaders for all 6 groups & 2 for sports center leaders which rounds out our team this year. What we also really need is helpers who can be a part of the THEME SET UP / PROPS on June 25th & 26th daytime and evening. If you can help...that would be wonderful.
