2 ~ Faithfully Witness ~ Most of you are very social people. You have a large circle of acquaintances, friends, co-workers, neighbors, golf league, bowling league, stitcher s group, antique tractor collectors, car enthusiast, farmers, fellow board members, parents of your children s friends, and the list goes on of the people you associate with and socialize with. Right? Yes-Right! So, when you are with these people that you already know and already have a relationship with some for many years some for many decades all you need to do in the natural flow of conversation is to share where you worship and then ask the person you are talking with: Where do you worship? This is a safe, nonthreatening, easy and natural question to ask someone you know or someone you are getting to know. Don t assume that you already know the answer before you ask the question! Why? Because people s situations change. You may think you know where they worship based on old information. It never hurts to ask out of genuine caring for the other person. You may just be surprised at the response you get in a positive way that is. ***This is your assignment for today and every day. Pray -that God will give you the opportunity to have this safe, non-threatening, easy and natural conversation with at least one person each day. Be ready God is faithful to answer our prayers. We need to be Faithful Witnesses for Christ. I look forward to hearing about your experiences. As disciples of Jesus Christ and as members of the body of Christ present here on earth - the church - we are called and SENT to Faithfully Witness to the Good News of God s saving grace in Jesus Christ, the risen and ascended Savior and Lord of all. If you discovered the cure for all cancers would you keep it a secret to/for yourself? Of course not! Why then are you keeping the good news of God s saving grace in Jesus Christ a secret to/for yourself? Go Faithfully Witness. See you in worship, Pastor Jerry

3 VBS NEWS!!! Save the dates June 13-16!!! 8:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Education Team is getting geared up for our VBS Day Camp, June 13-16! It will be here before we know it! We want to thank you for filling in those clipboards we've been sending around during church. If you didn't get a chance to volunteer or donate, please check for them in the church office...we are still in need of several volunteer positions!!! We are asking that you please help children get their registration forms filled in and back to the church office ASAP!!! There is so much behind the scenes planning that goes into this special week, and early registration is so helpful. We also ask that you continue praying for the children who will be attending VBS, the camp staff, as well as all those serving and helping to bring this special week together. Finally, we invite you to attend our "Red Carpet Party" on Thursday evening, June 16th at 6:30 p.m. You won't want to miss this world premiere event!

4 Let s Go to Church Camp! Summer 2016 Lake Okoboji U.M. Camp! Without a doubt, UM Camp Okoboji is the greatest camp around! Their 100+ years of service is solid proof! If you have never been to this camp, once you experience UM Camp Okoboji, you will want to return again and again. We want everyone who wants to go to camp to be able to go. The church asks that parents or guardians pay 25% of the cost of camp if they are able to. We also can not stress enough that if you are not able to pay the 25% ~ DO NOT let this stop you or your children from attending camp! There are many funding resources available to allow anyone who wants to go to camp to be able to go. Please bring ALL camp registration forms to Pastor Jerry [unless you are paying 100% of the cost yourself]. Let him know at that time if a scholarship is needed in order for someone to attend camp. 7 Leadership Team Meeting May 12, 2016 Place: Pocahontas Center, 7:00 pm Attendance: Pastor Jerry, Melissa Rahn, Ray Timan, Carol Hallman, Moira Hopkins, Linda Ferguson, Carol McCurdy, Kathy Johnson, John Nedved, Kevin Hauswirth and Judy Pursley. Ray called the meeting to order. Pastor read a testimony of a young man about the importance of his church camp experience. Pastor encouraged us to encourage parents to register their children for church camp and VBS. Pastor shared an opening prayer. Action Items: Minutes were read silently and were approved as printed. A Treasurer s Report was given by Melissa. The total funds available are about $13,500 less than last year at this time. Our total budget expenses are about $8,100 less than this time last year. This is because Staff Salaries are less and Fuel costs are less. This was the first winter to have one center closed for the season. Carol H. made the motion to approve the Treasure s Report and Linda seconded. Motion carried. The other action item was put forth by Linda. The SPRC, Worship, and Education Teams had a special meeting on April 26, 2016 which finalized our worship times at the three centers. Minutes from the April 26 th meeting were shared with Leadership Team. After some discussion, Linda made the motion that June, July and August will have worship times of 8:00 am at Plover and 9:30 am at Pocahontas. For the months of September through May the Havelock/Plover rotation will be 8:30 am and Pocahontas Center will be at 10:00 am. Kathy seconded it and it was approved. This is the new normal. Ministry Team Reports: Worship Team: Carol H. said that special music was possible for the summer months. In past years she has put up a sign up sheet and no one signs up. Pastor said that this is a great way for us to practice the Shift. It isn t just Carol that needs to seek musicians but we all are to ask musicians and singers that we know of to share their talent whether they belong to our church or not. Then have them let Pastor know so he can coordinate the service. Discussion followed.

8 Education Team: Moira said Senior Recognition and potluck were May 1. Mary Hallman did a fabulous job as speaker. We have four seniors graduating this year. Mother s Day was the last day for Sunday school. Vacation Bible School will be June for those children who will be entering first through sixth grade. There are schedule conflicts within the community on the dates. Pastor said that two mom s saw the ad in the paper and called to get registration forms. He also said that we are the only church in the community of Pocahontas to have VBS this year. Outreach Team: Pastor said that the two baby changing stations are installed. Missions Team: Ray reported for the Team. Their current project is the layette kits and cleaning buckets. The Mobile Food Pantry is May 25 from 4:30-6pm at the Expo Center in Poc. SPRC: Linda reported that the form Another Set of Eyes has been sent it. Trustees: John said that the windows have been installed. We still need approximately $360 to finish paying for them. Don Ferguson and John did some staining of the trim and window sills. We have a leak in the west side of the sanctuary roof at Poky Center. The contractor and sub-contractor have been notified. Next meeting is June 13 at 5 pm. Finance Team / Foundation: Kevin said that we have two CDs that matured. One half will be going into the Balanced Fund and one half will go back into a CD in the Building Trust Fund of the Iowa UM Foundation. The church has been donated a 2007 Mercury Grand Marque car with 100k miles. The asking price is $3,000. Brad Cook will detail it. Pastor shared a brochure about a Spiritual Formation Retreat with a theme of: Chaos, Solitude, and Community. This gives information about two 3-Day Retreats at Wesley Woods in Indianola, IA. They will be held the end of October. The presenter is Tom Albin, the #1 Wesley authority. Cost is $ Pastor said that scholarships are available to help with the cost. We'll be taking a road trip for lunch in Breda, with a possible shopping spree in Carroll. Rides will pool at church with plans to leave by 10:30 a.m. June 16 - UMW will meet in the Plover Center with Peace Circle in charge of Devotions, Program and Coffee. Pocahontas members will meet at the church by 1:30 p.m. to pool rides. Call if you want to be picked up from your home. Thank you! The 12 cleaning buckets and the 12 layettes are complete and will be delivered to the Midwest Distribution trailer at Annual Conference. Thank you for your contributions... and your diligence in finding the items that fit the specifications. Remember food pantry items for Upper Des Moines Outreach - the need is always great.
