2 After Epiphany: The Great Invitation February 5: Salt and Light and Righteousness Abounding In light of who and what God is blessing and how different that is from what the world and sometimes even the church seems to bless, how do we then live? As salty, light-shining people whose righteousness abounds! February 12: This, Not That Jesus continues to offer concrete examples of what life in God s kingdom does, and doesn t, look like. February 19: And Now Your Reward Blessings are a gift of God in God s kingdom. Rewards are the result of living more fully into the ways of God s kingdom, or as we might say, growing in holiness of heart and life. Jesus reminds us of ways we can stay on or stray from the trail God s kingdom blazes for us in this life. February 26: Shine! Today we exult in the vision of God s exaltation of Jesus and in anticipation of our own transfiguration now and in the age to come. That hope, that vision, drives us not to stay where we are on the mountaintop, but to get into the valley of sin and suffering and be a healing and formative presence for all who seek God s salvation with us in the weeks of Lent that lie ahead. Ken DeYoung will be our guest speaker during worship sharing updates for GoServ Global in Haiti after hurricane Matthew. Come learn how we can respond to meet the ongoing needs. March 1: Ash Wednesday 5:30 p.m. Worship in Pocahontas. See you in worship. Bring a friend with you. Pastor Jerry

3 What Do I Believe? Adam Hamilton believes that for Christians and for others seeking faith, some powerful answers are contained in the Apostle s Creed, a historic statement of foundational Christian faith. Action Items: Chris opened the meeting with devotions and then said a prayer. Minutes were read silently. Donnie made the motion to approve them. Elaine seconded and the motion carried. A Treasurer s Report was given. We had $23,681 less in offerings in 2016 than we had in There is $2,262 cash on hand at the end of 2016 as opposed to $14,162 at the end of Donnie made the motion to approve the treasurer s report. Elaine seconded. Motion carried. Bob R. representing the Mission Ministry Team requested that we amend the budget to give Larry & Jane Kies $200 more. [change from $1,200 to $1,400] Our support has not changed in at least four years. Bob made the motion and Linda seconded. Motion carried. Judy P then had a project proposal for the Leadership Team to consider. She would like to start a Clothes Closet for people who have had a disaster or are unable to purchase clothes at Thrifty Boutique or Goodwill. Pastor has already given 5 coats out in Nov. and in early Dec. we were given a number of women s clothes. After a discussion Judy made the motion to start the Clothes Closet. Moira seconded. Motion carried. Pastor then made a motion on behalf of the Nominating Team that we elect Sarah Freeburg to SRPC. Motion carried. Ministry Team Reports: Worship Team: Pastor had us look at the 2016 worship attendance report. The average at Pocahontas Center went up from 73 in 2013 to 87 in Havelock went down from 22 in 2013 to 15 in Plover also went down from 25 in 2013 to 18 in Average attendance for all three centers was 120 in 2013 and 120 in Feb. 6, is their next meeting. Judy P. said that there were 33 served at the Saturday Free Meal and 1carry-out on Dec. 31. This included helpers. This number was the lowest that we have served. We don t know whether it was the weather or the fact that it was held on New Year s Eve that contributed to the low turnout. The next one is on the 28 of Jan. The books from 2012 to 2017 are currently on the cart in the Fellowship Hall. A new book entitled "Extraordinary Grace" is an interesting and easy read. Authors Gary Chapman and Chris Fabry searched the scriptures for examples of God's grace in the lives of those named in Jesus' lineage and relate how that same grace is extended to us. An uplifting winter read.
